Find a Laptop or Computer

Computers are vital to carrying out project work, especially for report writing and staying in contact with Neighbours! Please find and contact an organization that can donate 1 computer and/or laptop for use by the project.

This is a quick list of some of the organizations that donate computer equipment. Requirements and contact information is provided. This is not an exhaustive list so let me know if there are others to be added!
There is a list of organizations that donate computers and equipment in the resource section of this task. This may help as a starting point.

Hi Barb
There are a few more listed in the Computer Centres part of the main Resources section
http://www.nabuur.com/modules/wiwimod/index.php?villageid=279&actionId=4...
Also, we created a big list for Uvira (which they didn't use in the end as a neighbour found some computers).

I have also attached a copy just in case that disappears when the village is put into the new format.
From the investigations I did for Uvira, many donate computers in large numbers, rather than just one or two at a time. But some of the smaller ones may be prepared to give just one machine. Most provide desktops rather than laptops I think. But laptop has the big advantage of being portable and cheaper to ship.
I would think they would need details of Kabondo's organisation = what they do, whether they are a registered non-profit etc.
Also, most will charge for shipping and/or expect Kabondo to arrange the whole shipping process. Is there any money available for that (that question goes for the other equipment related tasks too)?
Mary
Thanks again Mary!
I will add the list to the one I have in the resource section.
Regarding 1 computer, I have encountered the same problem in Kabuta, Zambia, but managed to find a donor organization. It took a few months though. Laptops are harder to come by for this organization (it's ERA (electronic recycling association) by the way).
Shipping will be the other issue to address.
As I mentioned in another thread, I will be posting the project plan as soon as I have it. I am still waiting on it as we ran into some problems.

Mary compiled this list that has donors of computers as well as shippers and funders.
I am working on finding a computer or laptop to send to the project so that administration will be easier. As mentioned elsewhere, a local NGO is willing to allow me to send some items to Kabondo in their shipment heading to Kenya, leaving October 11.
Dear All
"THE TATA CONSULTANCY SERVICES"(Indian origin-having branches in Foreign Countries also) denotes 2nd hand Computers Free,in December.
But for this,"an INCOME TAX OFFICER" ,of that Project based country or any "CUSTOM OFFICER" has to be contacted, because these computers are "cleared of income tax" through these officers.
These computers are given "free" of cost.
Warm regards,
Sushmita,
India
Hello Sushmita,
Thank you so much for this information. Do you know where I can find contact information for Tata Consultancy Services, so I can find out more information?
