Find Mosquito Nets

Mosquito nets are highly effective in reducing the risk of Malaria - a disease that often kills young children and contributes to poor health and poverty. Please find and contact organizations and/or individuals that can donate mosquito nets. There are 120 orphans as well as their guardians.

Hi Barb
In Kenya particularly Nyanza, at times Kenya Red Cross and Ministry of Health normally provide the nets at a subsidized cost but i'll inquire if AED-speak for the child work in that area and if they can contribute nets.
Kobong
Hi Kobong,
Thank you, that would be great! I have also sent an inquiry to the Canadian Red Cross to see if they can direct me anywhere.
Barb
Hi Barb
Will get back to you within the week.

Hello,
I contacted Malaria No More and they replied saying:
Dear Ms. Briggs,
Thank you for writing, we are always happy to hear of other groups that are working to combat malaria. We are also glad to hear that your organization is looking to provide bed nets to children in Kenya; however, unfortunately we are not yet in the business of facilitating small batch orders of bed nets and we are not aware of any bed net production companies which currently sell Long-Lasting Insecticide Treated Nets (LLIN) individually or in small orders. Currently, Malaria No More procures orders of 100K+ nets, which are folded into larger distribution programs administered by our partners working in Africa (i.e. President’s Malaria Initiative, UNICEF, American Red Cross, etc.) We have made inquiries with several of our partners, and have gotten similar responses regarding small batch orders. However, we are told that Sumitomo will be rolling out a LLIN for commercial purchase in the next year.
We apologize that we cannot be of more assistance but suggest that you contact the Kenyan Ministry of Health regarding any upcoming bed net distributions in the country. We wish you the best of luck with your work. Thank you again for contacting us!
Best Regards,
The Malaria No More Team
It seems that small numbers are an issue.
Barb
Barb hi
What if the several communities in Kisumu get organised and together come to an interesting number of nets?
What would be the charges involved in that?
We have around 5 communities in Kisumu area, so if the strength is in the numbers, and the costs involved are minimal or doable for the communities why not give it a try?
This can be done by the LR's themselves
Warm regards
Claudia
Thanks Claudia,
Pooling together is a great idea and worth a try. They would need to figure out a few logistical details such as who would be applying, who would be receiving and who/how they would distribute them.
Barb
Hi Briggs my name is javan from Nairobi kenya av looked at the forum about mosquito nets and my suggestion is to contact the population services international they are based here in Nairobi. They sell /distribute treated mosquito mosquito i can make some enquiry concerning this issue then give you feed back
javan
Hello Javan,
That would be very good if you could contact Population services. Please let us know how things work out and what we can do next.
Barb
Hello Everyone,
Through UN Online Volunteering, we have found a few volunteers that are compiling a list of organizations that we may be able to contact as well as any requirements needed to secure the nets. In addition, I have asked that they look into alternatives such as local or low-cost suppliers of nets that may sell the nets to us at a very low rate. We need to have a number of options available to us.
Barb
Hallo team,
First my apologies for the long duration it has taken to get the information. Secondly I have found the following link: http://psi.org/malaria/malaria-department.html which has the contacts for Dr.Desmond Chavasse who heads PSI's Malaria Control Department and oversees PSIs malaria control programs. Fortunately :-) he is based in Nairobi. I have tried calling the office to speak to Sekina Kere to whom i was referred to so i shall keep you updated. I shall also let you know any other information that may be required.
Thank you.
Regards,
Karimi
Thank you Karimi,
Please let us know what information is needed to apply for the mosquito nets. :-D
Hi Everyone,
Some volunteers have provided more possible contacts for mosquito nets. I have added them to the wiki and will contact them.
Barb
Hi Everyone,
I am closing this task down for now, as other areas are being addressed first. The list of organizations will remain in the wiki as a resource.
