Hello,
Here are two organizations that fund HIV/AIDS programs, that are not on the list already posted:
Stephen Lewis Foundation: They specifically fund projects related to orphans of HIV/AIDS.
www.stephenlewisfoundation.org
Project proposals may be sent to the Stephen Lewis Foundation at: proposals@stephenlewisfoundation.org
OR by surface mail to:
STEPHEN LEWIS FOUNDATION
260 Spadina Ave
Suite 501
Toronto, Ontario
M5T 2E4
Canada
Funding Criteria:
Organisations applying for a grant from the Stephen Lewis Foundation should fulfil the following criteria:
Be a registered CBO or NGO. This means you should be able to provide a copy of a letter from government proving your status, and/or a fund-raising or registration number.
Have a bank account or access to the bank account of an accredited NGO that is working on behalf of your organization.
Be committed to the principles of non-discrimination against all groups of people, with a particular commitment to women and people living with HIV/AIDS.
Have a sound financial system to manage grant expenditures;
Have a functioning board, steering committee and/or leadership structure that has women and people living with HIV/AIDS.
Be engaged in community-based activities aimed at assisting one or more of the following: orphans and vulnerable children; young people; women; caregivers/guardians, who are often grandmothers; and people living with HIV and AIDS.
Proposal Guidelines
Please note that applications do not have to be lengthy. If you have a format that you are already comfortable with, this is fine. It must simply contain:
Name of group requesting funds: The name and registration number of your CBO or NGO.
Mission/vision of organization: Share the vision, principles, and a brief background on how and why you began your organization. It would be useful to include the number of people you reach in your community and the kinds of services that you are providing.
Details on organization: Provide details on the organization, such as the number of staff, Board members, office location, etc.
Past funding: Please specify your overall organizational budget and your past and current experiences with receiving and managing funds from other agencies or foundations.
Objectives: Explain what you want to do with the funds or resources you are requesting.
Proposed Activities: Describe how you will carry out your activities. This should include things like workshops, community events, and meetings, etc.
Timeframe: Explain how long it will take for your activities to take place. This could be three months from the beginning of the project, to one year. Currently, the SLF does not fund programs longer than 1 year.
Results: Provide a brief description of the specific results which are the goal of the project/activity, and how the proposed activities will contribute to their achievement.
Budget: The budget simply needs to be straightforward and comprehensive. What are the costs of infrastructure and the administrative costs of running the project, as well as those costs associated with programming. List any items you will purchase, and how much you think they will cost. It would be helpful to cost those things that will make it easier for women and people living with HIV/AIDS to attend you meetings. For example, include items like food or transport money for meetings if you are in a rural area. Also, please include the total budget with any other financial/in-kind contributions.
Monitoring and Evaluation: Include a plan for monitoring and evaluation – a method which will ensure the project is monitored in order to provide greatest responsiveness/ effectiveness; and an inclusive evaluation process which will assist in determining the successes and failure of the project(s), lessons learned and future needs.
References: Please provide us with at least two references with their contact information who could speak about the vital work you are doing. They could be funders, organizations, or agencies.
There is a link to a PDF version of the funding criteria on the website.
The second organization is the Tides Foundation (HIV Collaborative Fund). I have spoken with their head office and they are currenlty preparing for their next round of grants. They asked that you contact the regional coordinator for East Africa, listed below:

I hope this helps.

Hello Briggs,
Thank you very much for the information you have given us regarding organizations that give funding to orphan programs.A neighbour called Mary from Italy had already given us the link to the Stephen Lewis Foundation and we have already sent them a project proposal. They sent us a message stating that our proposal is still under review. The other organization (TIDES FOUNDATION)is totally new to us and we are very grateful to you for this information.I will contact Rose Kaberia as you have advised and see what comes out. Thank you very much for your support.

Hi,
I hope you have had some response from stephen lewis foundation.
Might want to look at this too. http://www.ajws.org/
Mary
Dr. Lucy Steinitz visited Kabondo on 1st and 2nd November to carry out an assesment visit for possible funding on behalf of the Stephen Leiws Foundation. Dr. Steinitz is co-founder of Catholic AIDS Action in Namibia (www.caa.org.na) and co-founder and chairperson of the board of CAFO; The Church Alliance for Orphans (www.cafo-namibia.org).She aslo works with Family Health International(www.fhi.org).
It is the policy of The Stephen Lewis Foundation to send a representative to any project they are actively considering for funding. We were privileged to host her to meet the board, asses the management and financial systems in place and also visit the beneficiaries of the project. The visit took 2 days and a report will be forwaded to SLF to help them make a final decision.
Dr. Lucy visited children supported by the project and a widow who is struggling with a small business that earns her less than a dollar a day (KShs 50) to feed her four children and help her provide the basic necessities. Though she is semi literate, Dr. Lucy was inspired and moved by Mrs Benter Owino's courage and strategic plan and donated KShs 5,000 of her own monwy to help her expand her business capacity to be able to make at least KShs 300 a day.
We thank Lucy for helping Kabondo Poverty Alleviation Organization(KPAO) reach out to one widow who has shown the way that hard work and determination can help the poor make great strides away from dependence.

Dear All,
The Process of Finding the FUNDING ORGANISATIONS are-
1)First go to GOOGLE.
2)Type the Following in the "Google Search".
WEBSITES OF NON-PROFITABLE , CHARITY ORGANISATIONS
IN NORTH AMERICA WHICH
PROVIDES SUPPORT TO KABONDO IN KENYA OF AFRICA
FOR ORPHANS OR HIV/AIDS
3)You will get NUMEROUS Websites RELATED to your NEED..
4)You have to take the POINTER of your MOUSE to the name of the Website.
5)The POINTER of the MOUSE will turn to THUMBMAIL(The pointer will turn to
five fingers of the HAND with FOREFINGER POINTING)
6)Now you have to "Log On" to Websites to Find out whether the organisation is READY TO EXTEND SUPPORT OR NOT.
KEEP IN MIND-some of the websites may not be of your need.Do not log on to them.
By SEEING THE BOLD LETTERS & OTHER WEBSITES SHORT DESCRIPTIONS,IN YOUR FIRST SEARCH PAGE(before logging on to each website),you can understand whether it is of your NEED OR NOT.
If by chance, you CANNOT UNDERSTAND AT FIRST SIGHT,or have any DOUBT,you can log on.
7)Many times the Organisations had already Funded Elsewhere.
8)To VERIFY so ,FIND the "CONTACT".
9)In CONTACT you will find the E-MAIL-ID,of the ORGANISATION.
11)Instead of getting email-id you may also get A BLANK SPACE WHERE YOU HAVE TO PUT YOUR EMAIL-ID.and also type a SHORT INFORMATION OF YOUR ORGANISATION AND YOUR REQUIREMENT.
In order to meet this requirement,in your OWN YAHOO ID-SAVE A MESSAGE IN "SAVE AS DRAFT".
So that every time you meet these types of organisations, you can just straight
SELECT > COPY > PASTE(from yourYAHOO-ID- "SAVE AS DRAFT"to the required organisation MESSAGE SPACE)
10)It will SAVE YOUR PRECIOUS TIME(preventing the rewriting of the same message every time)
11)By REPEATING the "STEP 2 "-,& CHANGING the NAME OF COUNTRY,FOR EG.INSTEAD OF "NORTH AMERICA",you can write "AUSTRALIA",or ANY OTHER COUNTRY'S NAME.
And then repeat the same steps like before.
12)IF YOU HAVE ANY FURTHER QUERRIES,DO NOT HESITATE, AND YOU ARE MOST WELCOME TO CONTACT ME.
13) THE WORK IS OF " TIME TAKING" & " PATIENCE"
Good Luck,
Take Care,
Warm Regards,

Hello Erick,
In earlier posts you indicated that you had submitted to the Stephen Lewis Foundation and contacted Rose from Tides. Did you receive any responses from them yet?
Barb
Hi Barb
Are you able to provide more information on exactly what Kabondo needs funding for, and how much?
I know there are tasks related to project plans and budget, but I can't find the associated documents - I assume that is because you and Eric are still working to get everything across into the new format?
There is a list of funding organisations with application criteria in the Fundraising part of the main Resources section at http://www.nabuur.com/modules/wiwimod/index.php?villageid=279&actionId=4...
which links to a longer list in Kiliba village http://www.nabuur.com/modules/wiwimod/index.php?villageid=174&actionId=6...
Depending on what is needed, some of these could be suitable.
Mary
Hi Mary,
Thanks for the info. I think I posted the list of funders as a resource. Regarding the project plan and/or budget - I am still waiting on it from Erick. I think the disk he had it is corrupt, so we are trying to find it on old posts. I will add it to the resources and provide info on the details about funding as soon as I have some more info.
:-D
Barb

Thanks again Mary for your contributions. I will look into them!
I am trying to establish a project for Kabondo on Give Meaning. We need 98 votes to establish the project so we can being collecting funds. All we need is a vote, so please if you can, take a moment to click on the link below and go to the website and cast your vote. By voting you are only saying you think the project is worthwhile. You are NOT committing to a donation or financial contribution.

Best wishes, and thanks!
Barb
Hi Barb
I have put in my vote!
I assume they allow groups from outside US/Canada to collect funds? I am sure I found something on their site a few months ago saying US/Canadian registered groups only, but I can't find it now so am guessing things have changed?
Mary
Hi Mary,
I believe they have opened up internationally. I will look into it a bit more. If I don't have anyone to collect funds, they help me find a charity to do it. Thanks for the vote!
Barb
Hi Barb
I casted my vote and also fwd your email to my list of contacts
We will reach those 98 votes!
Take care
Claudia
I have casted my vote and i do hope that others too would do the same to see this a reality. Also i think it would be fine to send to all the neighbors in here the same email or a newsletter so that they too would vote and together this would be done that nice.
