Help combat Malaria in Kagulu

Status: Needs urgent help
Time needed:
Two weeks or more
Step:
1

It is estimated that around 6 out of 10 children in Kagulu are sick due to malaria. Malaria is also one of the major causes of miscarriage among pregnant women in Kagulu. One of our volunteers, Charles, recently visited Kagulu and described the conditions as alarming. In an effort to help the people of Kagulu people reduce the risk of being infected with Malaria, he has researched the cost of purchasing nets in Uganda which are properly treated. He reported that each net costs 10,000/= Ten thousand shillings equivallent to 5 dollars.

Based on Charles' visit, he estimates that if around 200 nets could be secured, this will begin having an immediate impact on the local community.

For this task, we are looking for volunteers who may be willing to donate money to help us secure the nets that are needed, or for ideas of how we can best raise the funds to accomplish this for the local community.

I am hoping that through this network, HICA will be able to obtain mosquito nets for distribution in his community. In addition, the network has indicated its interest to work with HICA as a MACIS Node ( a coordinating organization) for all other CBOs in Kamuli district especially as they have been the first to apply for membership from Kamuli."
