We need an integrated project to teach literacy skills in local languages as part of community improvement focused on generating income, preserving the environment, addressing local health concerns, promoting peace and conflict resolution, and encouraging education for adults and children.
The project should build on the routine activities of the community, farming; small business; etc. Please help us with every idea(s) to develop this project proposal.

hi!
some discussion session once a week or twice a month with local people might help..allowing them to speak , to ask, to learn i guess would be helpful God willing!
Regards!
Seher.
Hi seher,
I agree with you. Village/ community meetings are always conducted and data generated. However, the problem is collating the data into a project proposal that seeks grant funding. Using data from the community, our coordinator have tried to craft small project proposals that have attracted some funding. BUT for this particular project, it needs to be well craft to meet the competition in the grant making marketplace. For this reason, we need to be guided by suggestions of various people form various regions on exactly what NEED to be included, what works (has worked), structure of training program (do we need trainer of trainees - TOTs trained,..., develop local learning materials, etc), ........, etc

Hi Sylvia-
As a first step, I think you need to find prospective grants that you can apply for. Each grant has different criteria in terms of writing the actual proposal. You will definitely need to define what you and your community need in order to develop a quality program. It sounds like for now:
1. You are looking for examples of successful literacy programs in Uganda (or maybe elsewhere) that you can learn from. This will help you identify things that you may want to try in your own program.
2. You are looking for different funding opportunities which may fit well with what you want to do. I would recommend checking www.fundsforngos.org. They are constantly updating the site with new opportunities, but you should continue to look elsewhere as well.
You could potentially break this up into 3 parts:
1. Researching similar programs for ideas.
2. Searching for grant opportunities that fit with the program, and
3. Finding writers to assist in submitting proposals for the grant opportunities identified in #2.
I hope this is helpful to you.
Kind regards-
Jennifer
Hi Jennifer,
Thanks for such nice advance, suggestions, and the link. A searchon for funding agencies for such programs was made and we found ProLiteracy (www.proLiteracy.org). The proposal will be submitted to this organization.
I will browse the link you provided. Many, more prospective donors will be identified and posted so the neighbors can know where to submit the final proposal.

Hi Sylvia!
don't you think that selecting some useful proposals from the information given by the community can help...i suggest if you could choose some best options and then share with us so that we might help you in promoting/ establishing/ writing those projects because we cannot help you much until we know the approach and interests of the local community that what sort of projects can involve/help them..
Hi seher,
Yep, I get you right! What do i need to share?
I guess, problems identified and action / solutions/ activities proposed by the community. Let me know if there is any more....., and we can then get started

Hi Robert
Welcome to Nabuur!
The whole idea of Nabuur is that the site links communities in developing countries with volunteers all over the world.
Everyone works as a volunteer, and does not charge anything for the services that they provide to the communities. So if you are able to help Sylvia for free that would be really great.
Please also see Nabuur guidelines at http://www.nabuur.com/en/guidelines
Mary
Robert -
Nabuur is a volunteer organization and as such the help provided should be done on a volunteer basis only. I do see that you are offering your help for no pay which is fine, but since you mentioned you do this on a commercial basis, I also felt it necessary to point out that this would be against our guidelines. It is expected that all help offered at Nabuur be offered free of charge.
Kind regards-
Jennifer
Hello Neighbors and all readers,
We still need your inputs in having a project proposal developed for empowering women and local people in our community. The major problems identified are local poverty, bleak employment, limited technology and low levels of civic participation. Illiteracy has been identified as a primary cause of all the above since it relates to information and knowledge required for skill development, innovation and self-competencies.

hello greetings to all.i am patrick from cameroon.i will sugest that you seperate each of the domain areas and then develop seperate proposals. you should think of conducting a need assessment study first to ensure participation of beneficiaries and for sustainability.
Dear Patrick,
Thanks for your suggestions. I get what you say, but literacy needs to be integrated into routine activities so that everybody can appreciate its importance on daily lives. Concerning needs assessment, we have been collecting data as we implement various projects within the community.
