SUPPORT OVC PROGRAM

Status: In progress
Time needed:
Two weeks or more
Step:

Luhwahwa Youth Development Foundation (LUYODEFO) is seeking neighbors and the global community to join hands in saving the suffering and helpless children in Uganda. The aim is to complement the efforts W.O.R.C (USA) to ensure that the humanitarian rights and needs of the needy children are met. Our key partner, the World Orphanage Relief Corporation, W.O.R.C (www.orphcorp.org) has pledged to build a home for 50 children - hopefully to be fully funded by summer 2011, in addition to a donation of various items including shoes donated by SHARE OUR SOULS yet to arrive in Kampala, Uganda. We have some shoes already donated but we require funds to ship them to Uganda from U.S.A. There are many ways you can help out and support this program.

Hi Sylvia

Many villages have the same issue - it is relatively easy to get items donated, but the majority of donors are not able to pay for international shipping.

Unfortunately I cannot help you with fundraising, but there may be other volunteers out there who can!

I would recommend that you provide more information on the quantity of shoes that will be sent and the amount you will have to pay for shipping. Also, have you checked that they will send the types of shoes that people there need. And how this cost would compare with that to buy them locally.

Capital Campaigns – Catalyze your church, school, or business organization to take a radical plunge into issue. Consider mobilizing the masses, and have them be part of your efforts. (b). Dinner Party – Host a dinner party. Invite friends and family to your home or any other place of your interest and tell them about your fundraiser. Answer questions they may have about project and why you have decided to support it! (c). Sports – Coordinate a run or walk. Find a place, get the required permits, and tell everyone about your race. (d). Music – Organize a benefit concert. If you have personal connections to musical talent, ask them to have a benefit concert to support your ideas. Find a place, get the required permits and tell everyone about it. (e). Special Occasions – Give up gifts for your birthday, wedding, anniversary or other special occasion, and ask for contributions to your global project. (f). In Memory – Honor the memory of someone you love. Tell all your friends and family about your cause and why it means so much to you. Tell them more about LUYODEFO Project in an e-mail, cell phone message, etc to help tell your story. (g). Be creative – Have a talent show, organize a bake sale or garage sale. Thanks Mary,

The donor talks in term of a container - BUT its dimensions are not yet specified. We however, quoted about 400 pairs of shoes whose gross weight may be estimated between 100 - 140 kgs. This could require shipping of about 800 dollars including local clearing. This means that we require about 1,000 dollars that will include transportation to Kasese in the far western Uganda.

So neighbors if anyone would like to help raise funds, then here are some ideas to help you through…

The possibilities are endless. You can innovate many more!
