Hello Sushmita-thank you for your invitation to join the discussions here. I have a few questions for you:

1. Is this school presently in operation or a school that you hope to open?
2. Is the school required to follow a prescribed curriculum?
3. Is it possible to teach vocational trade skills to the children to help them develop their employability?
4. How long are the children in school each day?
5. Are any of the children presently working?
6. Is there good attendance in class?
7. How many teachers at the school? Does the government or local community pay them, or are they serving on a volunteer basis only?
8. What is the literacy rate in the area?

Thank you again-I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards-

Jennifer

Dear Jennifer

Thank you a lots for your message.

Reply to your questions-

1)Is this school presently in operation or a school that you hope to open?
Answer)Yea.I started it in 2005.

It is a registered, formal, mainstream, day, coeducational English medium school for downtroddens.

2)Is the school required to follow a prescribed curriculum?
Answer)Of course!!!The list of books which are followed, you will find in other Nabuur task-"development of children".

3)Is it possible to teach vocational trade skills to the children to help them develop their employability?
Answer)Of course!!! These vocational teachings can be carried on with the regular studies.

4)How long are the children in school each day?
Answer)The children are asked to make prayer line at 10.40am.Then there takes a prayer service along with a holy religious song. The full prayer service is in English language. From 11am. the class starts with teaching of the "fixed books" written in their "daily" "school routine".At 1pm.they have a lunch break & it is followed by little games for the entertainment of the children.Again the regular schedule studies start. The classes are over at 3pm.Then the children can go to home.

5)Are any of the children presently working?
Answer)No.Their ages are 2+ to 5 or 6 nearly.

6)Is there good attendance in class?
Answer)Of course!!!

7)How many teachers at the school? Does the government or local community pay them, or are they serving on a volunteer basis only?
Answer)I am the Principal/teacher assisted by an assistant teacher.

No government or local community pay them.

As i am th founder of this school,so i pay my assistant teacher 5$ (US dollar) per month. This money or salary is "very negligible" compared to the Indian rates of salary. But what to do ,i cannot afford the standard Indian rates. As the downtroddens study "free",& they do not pay any fees,so i also cannot afford to pay much more to the teacher than the mentioned amount.

8)What is the literacy rate in the area?
Answer)Very poor.India is 2nd in population in the world & is a 3rd world country or developing country,"full of poverty".As numerous cannot afford their full meals daily,so where can they afford money for good education!!! or literacy!!!

Thanks again for your support & concern for my school's downtrodden.

I have found 3 organisations that needs to be looked at. I hope some of the neighbours do not mind to take on this task. It would be best to make a summary of each one of the organisations.

(a) The George Foundation
(b) Global Giving
(c) Community Aid and Sponsorship Program (CASP - India)

In making a summary, do have the following questions in mind:

(1) Are we able to form a relationship with them. If so, what are the requirements or process.
(2) Understanding their mechanism.
(3) Always relate to the situation faced by Sushmita, the children, the school and the environment.

Please let me know if anyone is keen. It'd be a big help to start us off.

Cheers,

Az'farr :-)

Sushmita, I know I have sent you a link to this list before but I will post it here too. It is a list of potential sources of funding, books, equipment etc. More focused on Africa than India, but there is the possibility that some may be able to assist the school.

I would also say, look at local options too, but will save my thoughts on that for another post.

Dear Neighbours,

With Mary's help, we have managed to compile a list of organisations that could fund as well as guide the school. I have made a list of organisations for us to look at in the format of Microsoft Word (doc) so that everybody are able to update the list whenever someone finds something new. Please take a look at the attachment.

With this list, I hope that we can start dividing some tasks. I am very much in need of everybody's help with this one to:

Summarise the organisations, in relations to the:

- School's current economy, condition, manpower and size (building and students)
- If the organisations are able to help an education institution in India, Asia.
- The requirements needed to apply for such funds.

Let's work on this together and we'll divide the tasks among us. Let me know.

Cheers! :-)

The list you had given me,i have applied to many, still some are left to apply especially the partner schools as they are very slow!!! in responding.

Hello everyone,

Attached, is a document which contains a list of organisations that can be possibly teamed up with as a partner or as twin-schools. As usual, we would need to shortlist by analysing and making a summary of it.

The only questions when making a summary is:

(1) Would they partner with a school in this part of the world - India, Asia.
(2) What are their methods?

Let's divide this task among us, shall we?

Cheerio... :-)
