Hi neighbhors, any person out there to help in this task? We need this support to improve on the quality of health care

Stanley Okurut
Hi Stanley-
What is it that you are specifically looking for with this task? Are you seeking specific equipment? Training? If you are seeking equipment, can this be purchased locally? If so, do you have estimated costs of the equipment?
Is this lab attached to the school, or is it part of the health care center? Depending on which, there are some different resources I can share with you about this.
Kind regards-
Jennifer
Hi Jennifer,
We are talking about a health cemtre lab. We need both equipment and training. But we would love to have training first.

Stanley, can you be more specific?
What equipment does the lab have now? What equipment is it lacking? What type of lab work is done there? Could the facility receive referrals from other facilities lacking this equipment? What would the equipment allow you to do that you cannot currently.
If training is required, who would be using the equipment? Would the health care center be looking to hire someone to operate it? If so, is the health care able to sustain that cost?
Jennifer
Hi Jennifer,
The basic equipment we have now in the lab is the microscope, manual centrifuge and associated accessories like testubes and slides. We don't have scanners. Simple tests like malaria, worms, STDS etc. can be done but require some training. Yes the health centre receives referrals from smaller units especially for surgical cases. We need some scanners and some on-site training for improved services. We are able to offer accomodation and feeding for this technical support if there was someone out there willing to support us with this capacity building process.

Stanley-
Attached is a list of a few different resources you may be able to contact to help with equipment for your lab. Some of these are focused on schools only, so when contacting them you may want to specifically reference your needs in relation to the nursing school. I collected these based on some prior research that Mary Smith and I did for the Masaka village and also based on contacts made previously for Arrow Web Hospital.
I hope that one or more of these are helpful to you.
All the best-
Jennifer
Thanks Jennifer, do you advice i send them email request for possible support with lab equipmet? How do i approach them?
Thx

Stanley Okurut
Hi Stanley-
That is what I've done in the past. This way you can address each individually. You will need to look through them define your needs according to the priority areas they serve. There are also phone numbers on some you could try, but email is probably best to start.
Jennifer
Thanks Jennifer, i will do that and keep you informed of any result get.

Thanks Jennifer, i have written to them now waiting for any response

Hi Stanley,
I just wanted to let you know that I have now sent the first small box of medical supplies to the contact address you gave me in Kampala. I hope this will get to you without having to pay any kind of duty or charge. I have written donation on the box and included a letter saying where the donation came from.
I hope the health facility will find the materials useful. This box includes sutures, saline, 4 vials of topical anaesthetic, forceps, scissors, sterile needles, swabs and some masks and caps. These are all left overs from a Central Line Associated Bacterium program run at my organisation and the medical company UNO Medical were very happy for me to send them to your facility. If the box gets to you safely I will send the other boxes after Christmas. This includes a bunch of surgical gowns, masks, examination table drapes, gauze etc etc.
I'll be off-line for 5 weeks as I am going overseas, so I look forward to hearing if you received the boxes when I return.
Best wishes
Carolyn
Thanks so much Carolyn, i will inform you and neighbors immediately i receive the consignment.

Hi Carolyn and neighbors,
I am glad to let you know that the first small box of medical supplies sent by Carolyn arrived safely. No additional charges were incurred in getting them. Thanks a lot for your support.
