We would love to link our health centre with hospital in developed countries for sharing skills and health care provision. We are asking neighbours to support us in this with any information or resource persons we can work with

Stanley,

How big is your healthcare center? THET in the UK (http://www.thet.org.uk/) is one organization that Arrow Web Hospital (Kayole-Soweto village here at Nabuur) has had some communication with about establishing a linkage to a larger hospital. Unfortunately, due to it's small size, they were not able to match them to a large hospital, but their recommendation was to partner with other small hospitals or health centers in the area, form a collaborative group of provides and then link the group with a larger facility.

We have had much better success in networking via Facebook, the hospital website and blog. It took awhile to build an Internet presence, but once they did, medical students from large universities began to contact them about coming to volunteer at the hospital. They have had other medical professionals come as well. As people learn more about the health center, come to visit in person and tell other people, we have found this to be a very effective means to establish positive mutually beneficial relationships.

Jim in Kansas shared this link via Twitter with Arrow Web Hospital http://www.medxcentral.com/ This is a healthcare networking site. This is based in the United States, but he shared that it has become a "real melting pot" for people/organizations around the world.

Kind regards-

Jennifer

Stanley, how many beds at the facility? Is it all outpatient based or inpatient as well?

Hi Jennifer,

It has 25 beds and still expanding. It handles both outpatient and inpatient.

Okay, so for THET, you would still be too small for them to link unless the facility joined with other local hospitals and proposed to link together. Arrow Web Hospital has 19 beds, so yours is slightly larger, but they mainly link facilities of the same size.

Do you work at the healthcare center?

Hi Jennifer,

I don't work directly as the health worker in the health centre but have the overall responsibility for its operations as the director. Where is arrow hospital located? It may be good to try to see if we can link with them. If it is in developed country then their capacity is better than ours.

I see. Have you met Bramuel? Bramuel works as the director at Arrow Web Hospital. The hospital is located in the Kayole-Soweto (Kayole-Soweto Village here at Nabuur) slum area just outside of Nairobi, Kenya. We have been working on helping their hospital become self-sustaining here at Nabuur for almost 2 years now. It sounds like you are facing many of the same issues that they are.

It may be good to all have a chat together and collaborate a bit. If you are interested in that, I will let Bramuel know.
