PACODET website design is soon over and we will launch a new website for our village. My thanks go to all members who have invested their time in this project. I would like to invite members to give their comments/advice on our logo which is attached which is one of the outputs of the website design. We would want to hear from you what message if any our logo is communicating.

Hi Vijai,

Thank you for sharing this process on how one comes to a good design of a logo. When looking at this process, we are at step CC.

I printed the logo in a smaller size and used a bit of blurred effect when printing, so to represent "a bad printer" (so detailed lines which are near to eachother would form 1 blurred dot), and have some idea on how to change the logo in order to make it more clear in a smaller fashion. I do not know if they work yet, but I will post the results once I think I have a satisfactory design which Stanley (in this case the "owner" of the logo) approves.

Kind regards,
Lieuwe

This is great, Lieuwe !

In case you are modifying the design, look at an option where you have clear, thick, bold lines. This will make the logo easily adaptable in smaller sizes, since merging of thin, fine lines will not be an issue simply because these thin, fine lines will not be there, and all you have is thick, bold lines which cannot merge.

Hi Vijai,

Looking at the process, step EE is to make a dummy business card. We need a real business card for PACODET anyway, so is it a good idea to make a real business card for PACODET at step EE? Or should one not do any design for other forms of communications before the logo is finished (before step HH is reached)?

And if you look at other forms of communication which need to be design (letterheads, templates for official documents), where do they fit in? Before I design the website, or after I designed the website? Or does it not matter which part of the total communicationpackage is designed first after step HH?

Kind regards,
Lieuwe

Hi Lieuwe,

The first step is to 'freeze' the logo.

For this to happen, you must identify the 'worst' condition in which the logo could ever be used, and ensure that the logo that is frozen 'first' meets all basic requirements in this 'worst' condition. You have already identified the 'worst' condition in which this logo could ever be used - and this is the 'smallest' size which could probably be used on a business card. If you refer to my earlier posts, I have mentioned that still smaller sizes of logo could be used, like on a pen, but I do not foresee this happening at this village. So to make matters easy for all concerned, a logo that meets the requirements on a business card could serve all other purposes. This is how the focus has shifted to the business card first.

Once you have made the dummy business card which shows the logo in the smallest 'envisaged' size of 1cm x 1cm (or slightly larger if it helps clarity but does not eat the space for other matter on the business card) - you can then freeze 'only the logo'. At this stage you can comfortably conclude that this logo will safely meet all requirements in any size which is larger than this size of logo.

However, to be 200% secure, you could proceed to 'finalize' the business card first, since you can expect a bit of back-tracking, which might involve reworking the business card design several times. Any change in the business card design could involve changing the size of the logo, which in turn could affect the clarity. Hence, after the dummy business card, you need to 'finalize' the business card. Finalizing the business card will make your work easy for all other applications where this logo is to be used, since in all other applications only a larger size of logo is to be used.

Having thus 'frozen' the logo, you have an open road before you, where you can work on any application where this logo is to be used, without worrying about which application to work on first.

Hi Lieuwe,

How are we progressing in this task? Please provide some information on what is going on now.
