Updates from Kawempe
It has been some time since we updated our neighbours on the progress that HOPE Children's Foundation Africa (HCFA) is making in Kawempe Uganda. We have been working hard within the community and are delighted to report the following:
- We were recently chosen by betterplace.org as one of eleven winners of a FLIP camera to make a movie about our projects! We will be creating a short movie about the women in our community who are generating income by goat-rearing; movies will be featured on betterplace.org at the end of August.
- HCFA has arranged a visit from the UK charity Children's World International (CWI). They will be visiting Uganda in October and will be performing 40 shows for Uganda children. CWI performs shows that provide psycho-social support and education to children through entertainment. We are working with a number of other local organizations to make sure we reach as many children as possible.
- We are pleased to welcome two on-site volunteers to Kawempe! Giles and Sebastian, both from the UK, are staying with us and helping with a variety of tasks including teaching, fundraising and planning future programs. Giles is keeping a blog of his visit at http://gilesinuganda.blogspot.com/ and it gives a fascinating look at life in our area.
- Thanks to the help of our village neighbours, we are now offering Behavioural Change Clubs in several schools and along with goat-rearing, some of the ladies in the community are making handicrafts to sell for income.
We have many more programmes and activities planned and will update our project room as help is needed. We thank the Nabuur community for their continued support of Kawempe Village and look forward to posting more success stories soon!
All the best from all of us at HOPE Children's Foundation Africa!
