Review the Kayole-Soweto Application form, and help to define the steps and tasks

Status: Finished
Step:
1

Attached is the application form for the project of Kayole-Soweto.

Please read it over and comment on what you feel is needed in order to formulate the project. We need to define the initial steps to undertake, keeping in mind that short and concrete tasks are more feasible.

I have been looking around a bit and have found a link for this document. Although a bit old (1998), a lot of the things there are still applicable. There is one organisation in Nairobi. Have you spoken with them by any chance Bramuel?

Hi Jennifer
I have 11 beds for inpatient, Yes the beds is always typically filled and it makes me some time to turn some patient this not because i wanted them to go but lack of beds. but it might have otherwise been admitted to the hospital.

Regard to outpatient services-the hospital sees 110 patients per week and this is the smallest number but sometimes the hospital see upto 150 patients per week this dipends with the weather.

Regards to medications, Yes i keep records of what medications are being used most frequently and i will come back with a least later.regard to replenish medication stock we replenish in monthly basis.we buy our drugs from the local suppliers it takes the same day for the drug to reach in the hospital after we purchased, we have not used the international suppliers so the time i can not give it now but i will come back to you with the answer later.
I think i have given you all answers.
Best wishes
Bramuel

Bramuel-

I think the website looks great! That will be a great marketing tool that you can direct people to when making contacts with organizations to assist you.

Hi Jennifer
Thanks for your Email as i told you i will do my best as i can.

I have also had a look at the application.

The tasks you have suggest are:

"Which three actions are your priority above all other?

Develop a business management plan for the community hospital,
facilitate proposal writing skills,
find examples of how to run a successful community hospital,
access to free medicines to be given to the sick who visit the hospital."

At other places in your application you mention that there are a lot of health problems so people need education, also that you would find medical journals and manuals useful.

A few thoughts/questions....

You are asking for examples of other community hospitals. I am assuming there will be several in Nairobi? If so, are you in contact with any of them, are there ways you can work together especially if they are in your area. How are they run - have any of them managed to become self-sufficient or are they all supported (either fully or partly) by ongoing funding from outside?

Are there any universities in Nairobi who train medical/nursing students? If so, would they be interested in working with you? They may have international contacts interested in providing assistance too.

Another possibility for drug and equipment donation is Direct Relief - http://www.directrelief.org/AboutUs/FAQs/FAQs.aspx?linkidentifier=id&ite...
It does not say how potential partners apply, but if Arrow meets their criteria (listed on the page above) you could try emailing them to ask.

http://www.directrelief.org/OurFocus.aspx tells a little more about what they do and http://www.directrelief.org/WhereWeWork/Countries/Kenya/Kenya.aspx shows that they already work with Kenyan groups.

A suggestion on your website - as the hospital is your main (only?) activity at the moment, it would be helpful to provide more detailed information about this - if people can see real details of what you are doing and the benefits, it may encourage them to support you in some way.

I have a feeling that more people will get involved when there are some more specific tasks to work on.

Hi Mary

And we have some community hospital in our neighbouring areas of operation which we consult with them every now and then for the technical issues.
