We would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our online volunteers here at Nabuur. We hope that you will take a moment to introduce yourself and get to know the rest of the members of our volunteer team. It is helpful to us to learn more about you and your experience so that we can best determine how to utilize your skills and expertise. We look forward to getting to know each of you and again, welcome! We are very grateful you are here with us in support of the Kiserian community.

Dear Adrian
Lyma Children Education Centre is an informal educational institution registered with the Kenya government under the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social development certificate number; DG5D/HED/5/4/09(744) OF 2009.Lyma was established in 2009 as a pre-school centre with twenty (20) pupils in Baby class. Nursery and pre-unit levels with three (3) volunteer teachers. This was as a result of having witnessed appalling poverty levels in Spring Valley and the neighboring Manna slum. The two slums had large no. of school going age children not attending school despite the government of the day having declared free education for all Kenyan children.
The main reason or cause for this situation was seen to be the prevailing social/economic difficulties that were being experienced by many families in the slum. Many families most of them single parent, were unable to afford the basic necessities such as food, clothing, stationery etc to enable them attend school. This problem resulted in serious malnourishment cases in most school going age children roaming aimlessly around the slum for food, others disappearing to the streets in the nearby Nairobi city, others indulging in manual activities in the nearby quarry site for pay to afford food and other necessities. As a result the crime wave in the area surged upwards; house breaking, juvenile Robberies, pick pocketing etc which led to most of the juveniles being killed either by security enforcers or lynched by the public through mob justice.
Following these sorry episodes and with an aim to make Spring valley and our community as a whole a safe and better place for all of us Lyma children’s education Centre was conceptualized. A few weeks on Lyma Children’s Education Centre operating from a rented premise with the priceless help and support of a few well wishers, introduced a feeding program in the centre. This was to ensure at least one hot meal per day for all pupils in attendance with parents and guardians being implored to provide uniform and stationery for their children to attend school for free tuition that was otherwise funded by the centre and other well wishers. This resulted in tremendous increment of enrollment numbers in the centre. Because of limited funds The centre however had to regrettably control the numbers and later introduce subsidized tuition levies given the amount of resources at hand.
The centre four years down the line currently has an enrollment of 200 pupils between Baby- class through class Four (4) with Ten (10) teachers.
Every year the centre with the support of friends and well wishers helps many children by sponsoring them with food, stationery, tuition etc.
On behalf of the centre it is my request for partnership kindly consider Lyma children’s education centre for any financial and or material gifts/donations as you may deem fit so that together we put a smile on the faces of this young souls as we keep them in school and shape their future. We are hoping to raise more funds to keep the program running this Year 2014.Without donations like yours however; the centre will not have enough strength to keep on operating. Financial and material gifts and donations from you will be a big step in keeping child/children in school and achieving our overall goal of trying to make a positive impact/difference through our actions.
We therefore welcome any gifts and donations of financial and or material nature.

Just look out for projects that you can help with and reply to those projects. Also, in my experience it is best to let people know exactly how you can help them or they may have expectations of you that you may not be able to deliver.

Welcome Adrian. I am fairly new to Nabuur and from experience it's a good idea to tell villages exactly how you can help, ie your skills etc. so that they can contact you with projects relevant to your skills.
