Learning materials

we sajos acdemy kiserian ,we are clocated in kiserian village, kajiado district ,kenya ,we are back to school for tution and we need all our neigbours to help us with ideas or information how we can get learning materials ,because we do not have them and we are in need of them very urgently.
There are some things that are urgently needed at the sajos School.
One category is learning materials: The school is looking for
-Exercise books
-Atlases
-Story books
-Rulers
-Pens and pencils
-Crayons
-Rubbers
-Geometric sets
So, the task is to find out how to best get these things to the school, preferably in good quality, as soon as possible.
I recommend doing Internet research, maybe there is a charity organisation offering some or even all of these. If not, fundraising might be a solution.we need this things before we open on Jan.2011 for our first term

Marlen you have really made an impact on Kiserian village the short time you have been there.
Keep on helping the village achieve its goals. Their vision is challenging and they need quite much of assistance so that the children are placed.
God Bless You.

Thanks Mary -
I've still not been able to go through every task in the village with Daniel yet to get them all updated. I sent this list to him and asked him to review it for me and let me know if he has applied to any of these already. Thanks for your help and for joining us here :)

Thanks Daniel :)
I cannot promise to be a regular contributor, but will try to pass on information if I come across anything that I think may be helpful to you.

Daniel/Mary:
Just to follow up, I submitted inquiries/applications to the following today:
1. Book Aid International
2. Darian Book Aid
3. Biblionef
4. Books Abroad
5. Books for the Third World
I did not submit to International Book Project or B.I.G. Books at this time. Hopefully we will hear back from one of these 5 with a positive response. With the other two, I think we'd run into shipping fees being a problem, so let's see where we get with these 5 contacts first.
Just wanted you to know I followed up. Thanks for the list!
Jennifer
Thanks Jennifer :)
According to their website IBP don't charge for shipping, but those able to pay do get priority, others have to wait an average of between 2-6 months http://www.intlbookproject.org/bks-process.php
If Daniel is still interested in a school partnership, its also worth checking IBPs school linking programme Books As Bridges too http://www.intlbookproject.org/wrk-bab.php and http://www.intlbookproject.org/books/index.php
Mary
Thanks! I hadn't seen the school linking program.
I just got a bounce back to my original message to the Kenyan contact for Book Aid International. I'll have to see if I can find another contact for that one. The email they have listed apparently isn't correct anymore.
Jennifer
Hi Jennifer
Just in case you haven't already tried.....
There is central contact info for Bookaid at http://www.bookaid.org/cms.cgi/site/contact.htm
Although the site says all book requests are processed via the country contacts, it seems perfectly reasonable to email them centrally to say there are problems with emails and to ask them to give you the correct one or pass a request on to someone in Kenya.

Daniel and I heard back today from Kitty at Darian Book Aid. She said that they could send 1-box of books to the school and that she will let us know when they ship out. They could not do more than a box again due to rising shipping costs, but I am very pleased they can offer support with a box. Every little bit helps!
All the best-
Jennifer
