EyeClarify donates 425 pairs of glasses
Enny Smit from EyeClarify in Purmerend, the Netherlands, has donated 425 glasses for people in Kisozi. There are 25 glasses for children and 400 glasses for adults. Esther will pick up the glasses in Purmerend on Tuesday 25th August and take the glasses with her to Uganda in October. The idea is to set up an "eyecamp", as EyeClarify calls it, and with the help of specialists check people's eyes and see which glasses fit best and then, hand the people that cannot afford to buy glasses, a free pair of glasses. Hope Alive Uganda will make sure to organize such an "eyecamp" with the help of health clinics in the area and make publicity about this event, as to make people aware of the fact they can apply for a free pair of glasses. All staff and volunteers will be involved in the organization of this event, as this will be quite a huge event to take place in the first two weeks of October!

Great news! Can't wait to see the outcome of the Eyecamp. :-)
(FYI: This news has been shared on our blog as the success story of the week: http://www.nabuur.com/en/nabuur-blog/2009/08/425-pairs-eyeglasses-their-...)
Best,
Romina
Thanks Romina for posting it on the Nabuur blog! Great to read it! I will take some photos of it when I have picked up all those glasses next week and post it here :) And the most interesting will be the photos of handing them out in Uganda during that "eyecamp" in October of course ! :D
Esther
I can't wait to see those pictures! ;) We'll do a part 2 on the blog post after your visit to Uganda. :D
Excellent work to all on coordinating the donation.
Thanks Romina!! :D :D
Great job Esther! I am so happy for the people of Kisozi who will benefit from this. How exciting! :)
Thanks Jennifer. Yes, I am sooo happy for the people there too!!
Esther
Good work, Esther! I agree it would be very good for Eddy to make contact with some people at the nearest Health Clinic to see if they could come out and help distribute the glasses to the appropriate villagers in need.
Jen
Thanks Jen. Yes, the staff of HAU are getting in touch with a health centre to organize this huge event. Keep you updated.
Esther
Today I picked up the 425 pairs of glasses in Purmerend.
Hullo Volunteers,
Thanks for the parental job of donating eye glasses to Kisozi village.
I really appreciated that work.
fred.
Thanks Fred.
We have been in touch with KLM about taking this large quantity of glasses to Uganda and came to the conclusion customs might cause us problems. So, in the end, we decided to ship the glasses to Uganda and we shipped them about a week and half ago. Hopefully, the glasses will arrive in Uganda in October. Anyhow, contacts have been laid with the health clinic that will help set up the "eyecamp" and when the glasses arrive, this "eyecamp" will be organised and the glasses will be handed to the people.
