Crafts project

At the start of 2010, Hope Alive Uganda started a crafts project for women. A group of women are partcipating in this projects, making necklaces and bags and selling them. A market has been created in the Netherlands: a fair trade shop is selling the necklaces, several museums in the Netherlands are supporting the women and we would like to expand the market for these women even more.
In this task, similar projects can share their ideas and experiences.
More about this task can be found on our website: http://www.hopealiveuganda.org

At the beginning of 2010, this group of women received materials to be able to start this project. We were lucky to create a market quite easily in the Netherlands. We even received help from Slovenia! After a while the project came to a little halt as we found some women were not that motivated and weren't able to produce their necklaces at regular intervals. Therefore, Hope Alive Uganda has switched their crafts project to Jinja, where a dedicated women's group is now working on making necklaces and bags. Also, we are still working with women in Kisozi that are motivated and willing to deliver their products at regular intervals to customers in the Netherlands.
Hi, Esther,
I was just wondering whether you have contacted Slovenian Fair Trade Association. And if yes, what was their reply? I was just now on Etsy and look what I came across:

Paper beads from Nicaragua! Maybe we too should try to sell there.
Hi Tanja,
I sent an email to the Slovenian Fair Trade Association yesterday (I wasn't able to do it earlier, because I had an extremely hectic week last week), so we are waiting for their response and I am going to let you know when they respond. I looked at the Etsy site some time ago and I think it could be worth a try yes. In the Netherlands there is a site like that, Flavorites. We will try that one too.

Hope Alive Uganda is looking for volunteers who would like to support our women's groups in Kakindu and Buwenda, Jinja by selling some necklaces at e.g. fashion shops, hairdressers, fair trade shops, webshops, to people in your own network (family, friends, colleagues etc.). We have a large supply of necklaces at this moment which can be sold. Contact us at info@hopealiveuganda.org if you would like to assist the women's groups with this.
