Help Develop and Implement a Sexual Health Education program

This project is looking for volunteers who will help this village in carrying out this task;
The volunteers will teach about HIV/AIDS transmission, sexually transmitted infections(STIs)and sexually transmitted diseases(STDs) infections among others.
They will teach safe sex methods like condom use,the volunteers will teach the beneficiaries of the project about the condom as a sex methods (how to use a condom properly, how to dispense it after use among others).
They will also teach about family planning methods and safe motherhood to the beneficiaries so that they also teach in turn their mothers about these methods.Besides is a part of the clientele which is about 20years and in situations that they are in,would benefit enormously because they are sexually active.
The program should also serve to sensitize on the effect of girl child discrimination and female genital mutilation and promoting of the same opportunities for all children regardless of their sex.
Anyone willing to share with us ideas and suggestions about this task will be very welcome.
update task August 2009:
In my village Kisozi, a number of kids are HIV infected or have AIDS. Yesterday (16 August 2009) I registered 20 kids with HAU. 12 of them were HIV positive. The local council chairperson called and we discussed about counseling teaching youth, setting up campaign and we agreed that our volunteers John Mukucha Dunia and Eric Ojoko are going to start counseling the community about the dangers of HIV/AIDS.
Dear neighbors any solution which may help my brothers and sisters in this village is highly welcome. Join us to discuss!
Eddy

Eddy and I worked on some reorganization of the village and task definition today. I wanted to repost this message received from Richard which was originally posted under this task. There was no way for us to move the original message, so I've cut/pasted it below:

Barbara Munyaruguru posted the following message in the Kagulu village recently. As you will see, she works in Kamuli, so I thought that it might be good for you talk with her to see if she may be able to provide any assistance to the children that you work with. Please look over her website to learn more about the programs they offer.

Maybe I can help. I have worked in Zambia for a little while in a project aimed at counseling and treatment for PLWHA. In the Netherlands I am a social work, but also trained in developing education programmes.
I can't read your workplan as attached....

Ginger :)
This is an interesting project but i would want to say that it is quite a wide programme with many components HIV/AIDs as a disease, ho to prevent and live with it, What is the target group mothers or youths(this will determines the approach to deliver the methos. You also have to take consideration of the cultural values this community holds to avoid rejection of the project out rightly.
With sexual health programmes to achieve acceptability it important to work with people within the community where people have confidence with (role models) for then not to see as a foreigh concept. Hoever, you can have external expertise on the subject matter.
I would also encourage you to address issues of behaviour change among the community & adolescents, parents, local leaders about sexuality).
I have some skills on the subject matter I would further share with you " A culturally sensitive approach to prevention of HIV/AIDS and STIs among adolescents. By use of practical sessions to build self esteem and confidence among the target community and to view their sexuality as their pride.
I will be glad to contribute further

"If you do not stand up for something, then you might fall for anything"
Grace - what a lovely quote at the end! I agree that we/all villages should first implement an educational program for preventing (any more) HIV/AIDS and STD's. You say that you have some skills on the subject matter, and I wonder if they are printed up and we can use them in a number of villages? And, it seems as though Richard from the Netherlands, on this site, will also be able to contribute and help you. let me know how it is going - thanks so much for your contributions.

Thank you Ginger and Mary. Eddy, this is a great opportunity I think. Can you contact Barbara in Jinja and maybe you can set up a partnership in Jinja indeed??? Let us know how it works out, Eddy. This is really great! Hopefully you can establish some kind of partnership.
I thought I had posted this, but I see I didn't!!! I have purchased 2 very short books from a company in England: AIDS THE WICKED DISEASE and STOP MALARIA, both of which are geared to young readers. They shipped out 3/19 and I know it will take 3-4 weeks for them to arrive in Jinja town. I sent them to my contact, Mary Negesa. I am hoping that she, or someone, will help her to Xerox the book and distribute copies to several villages in the area. I asked her to contact Barbara in Jinja, who should be able to help.
