Volunteers wanted

Kisozi needs volunteers to come to Kisozi and help build and renovate the school, organise activities and help out with health programs. The question is, where do we find those volunteers? Are there organizations that can help us? How can we apply to organizations for volunteers to support us? Anyone that has ideas or useful links or experience with this, please let us know.
Also, read the news page: http://www.nabuur.com/en/village/kisozi/news
So volunteers are needed for these tasks:
* building and renovating the school
* organising activities for the schoolchildren
* helping out with health programs (sexual health programs) and
educating the school children
We want to explore two things:
* What are the possibilities for this in the area of Kisozi/in
Uganda? Are there neighbours in Uganda who can help or have
connections or ideas?
* What are the possibilities for this through organizations world
wide? Have you got idea or tips or can you tell us about your
experiences with organizations? Which things are important when
working with organizations outside Uganda?

Hi Esther
Firstly, I would suggest that you work out all the practical details:
* What do you need volunteers to do
* Why do you want this work done by outside volunteers rather than the community doing it themselves, what can the community learn from them, can they pass on lasting skills
* What skills do they need
* How long would you like them to stay
* Where will they stay
etc
We put together a list in Omiito - may be worth you checking out some of these. http://www.nabuur.com/en/village/omiito-on-hold-at-the-request-of-the-lo...
I didn't add all of them to the list (just those at the end, Fairground Sessions to Different Africa Connection) so I don't have detailed info on any of the others.
Mary
Esther-
I agree very much with Mary. Most organizations that help coordinate bringing volunteers on the ground will ask these questions, or have these questions as part of an application for volunteers. I believe also that the community working together will get much farther, and things will be done much faster than relying on outside support from volunteers willing to travel to Uganda.
Jennifer
Thank you Mary and Jennifer. You have got a point here. Eddy, can you make a plan of things you need volunteers for (what exactly needs to be done and how many volunteers do you need to help etc.). Also, Eddy, are volunteers in your area that can help you? How is your network? Shall we explore that first?
Regards, Esther
I am willing to join the volunteers in Kisozi so as to improve the lives of the children in Kisozi
Hi Florence!
Thank you so much!! Are you anywhere close near Kisozi? How can you help Eddy? I will contact you and perhaps it is a good idea to get in touch with Eddy as well.
Regards, Esther
Hi Jennifer , am also willing to help my brothers in Kisozi in any form so that we make Uganda a better place in live in.
Thanks
Charles

I know this website is in Dutch but I think you have already heard of this organization. Organizations like these could be contacted to see if they can help and in what way they can provide help. Organizations like these can give information about working with volunteers from abroad. Shall I ask for information, Eddy?
Eddy - spoke with Esther yesterday - looks like you'll have the two of us summer 2010!! I can't wait - and I will be happy to teach anything you need- What is the brick building you are standing in front of? Is that a semi-completed school? Then I see lots of bricks that have not been used. What do you need to finish the school?

Dear Sushmita,
Where is your school located? I know West Bengal but how close to Kolkata?
Regards,
Gitanjali Sen
Hi Gitanjali
Kisozi is in Uganda in Africa.
I think you may have been wanting to post to Kalna village, as Sushmita is their Local Rep. Her village is at http://www.nabuur.com/en/village/kalna or you can send her a message via her profile at http://www.nabuur.com/en/user/sushmitalahiri/profile
Or there is a full list of the Nabuur villages in India at http://www.nabuur.com/village/results/taxonomy:9.32
Mary
Well, its seen but just a matter of onformation: Am in Kenya and it may prove dififcult to offer such services given the location of the project.
Kind regards,
Charles
