SLINT-Uganda Hosts Students from Canada and the US Again

From 7 to 11 June 2011, SLINT-Uganda hosted 14 student volunteers from Canada and USA at its field project sites in Kyankwazi district. The study visit was organised by Operation Groundswell, an organisation based in Canada (http://www.slint.org/groundswell_studyvisit2_news.html )

SLINT-Uganda Launches the Butikiro-Kiyuni Solar Home Project

On 8 June 2011 SLINT-Uganda in partnership with Operation Groundswell (OG) launched the Butikiro-Kiyuni Solar Home Lighting Project. The project aims at equipping at least 500 homes with solar-powered LED lighting technology as part of its mission to empowering people to secure an improved quality of life while protecting the environment (http://www.slint.org/solarhomeproject.html ).

Kiyuni Fruit Tree Growing and Community Forestry Project Pressing Forward

High aims have we set and we are driven to achieve them. A field visit to Butikiro from May 22 to 23, provided SLINT-Uganda with more optimism about meeting those aims in the near future while meeting and speaking with some of the project beneficiaries in their homes and farms. The farmers are equally excited about the project. “It is very reassuring to see the fruit trees we planted growing very fast”, remarked Mr. Tito Byakatonda, supervisor of the Kiyuni Community Tree Nursery.

Community Forests International Staff Visit Butikiro and Kiyuni

It was all excitement in Butikiro and Kiyuni villages as farmers with support from SLINT-Uganda hosted staff from Community Forests International (CFI) Canada: http://forestsinternational.org/2010/05/kiboga-district-uganda/ from 4 to 6 May 2010.

Farmers Expand the Community Tree Nurseries at Butikiro and Kiyuni

On 24 and 25 April 2010, farmers participated in the expansion of the community tree nurseries at Butikiro and Kiyuni villages that were established with support from SLINT-Uganda and Nabuur volunteers under the “Gayaza Smallholder Fruit-Tree Growing and Community Forestry Project”.
