A few hours drive led me ……

A few hours drive led me ……no where, but to………dirty streets, broken houses & plenty of damages. An unforeseen situation for me which excluded sleep from my nights, which extracted peace of my mind & which pulled out relaxation from my comforts.

How the colorful life converts in to black & white?

One can comprehend this enigma after visiting the flooding affected areas of Pakistan. Where bad smell is spread in every nook & corner & one can’t tolerate to stay too long. Where couple of weeks ago attack of water, is still showing its marks & helping germs to grow & increase as fast as a light & as many as the stars in the sky. Where the numbers of camps are visible but real support & facilities are totally invisible. Precious lives of human beings are explaining about their awful situations which are worse than animals in the jungle. Slogans of repentance are voicing about their useless lives in the camps, on the roads & in the crowds.

Real affected people are facing the music & the cheaters are enjoying the music.

Small camps, too many family members, stony & hard surface of earth, absence of electricity, lack of water & inadequate food are the problems that are enhancing their worries, wounds & difficulties. Innocent children are missing milk to drink & killing their hunger through their hungry cries. Females are feeling themselves insecure, basic human needs like toilets & water for their use are scarce.

Their hands, bodies, clothes & (if they have) utensils are dirty because they’re missing all kind of soaps. Nature has justified all affected population with such justice where only sorrows, worries, pains, cries, disturbance, diseases, hunger & problems are there. Their crucial time has snatched their good time & even don’t permit them to enjoy while recalling their golden memories of the past whenever they commit mistake of recalling their good memories then they only cry, cry & cry……..

As a matter of fact, where angry nature has put them in between the devil & the deep blue sea there villains, culprits & criminals are also availing the full advantage of their difficult time. Somewhere the robbers are stealing their remaining things & somewhere that character less hard hearted ferocious characters are searching excuses & trying to cheat organizations & volunteers while receiving aid which is purely brought for flood affected throngs. They shed Crocodile tears & then turn the tables. Their comprehensive preparation can cheat any one if one is not convinced through their hazy steps then they apply murky actions to snatch the aid of needy community.

Real needy who specially live in the villages either one doesn’t know about their areas or one can’t afford to go to far particularly where bad smell is spread & dirt is visible on every step; either this way or that but as a whole they’re still waiting for help. Their remarks about their underestimation they make various complains & criticize on the government support due to their absence. The wall less & remaining weak structure of trustless houses is challenging their courage to stay in them any more……..

They’re thirsty, they’re hungry, they’re ill, they’re needy, they’re sad, they’re wounded, they’re painful…….Although they’re whirling in the chain of disappointment, still not disappointed.

My personal visit on 26th August to Nowshera & Risalpur helped me to read about their tired lives.

How can we do well?

Just one call to help affected people: gave us a fruitful result where we would be able to collect a handsome amount of 162600 one hundred sixty two thousand & six hundred PKR & also different items like milk, cookies, juices, drinking water, clothes, shawls, jugs, glasses, water coolers, prayer mats & etc……That all things we collected & a few things like rugs locally called chatais, tissue papers, some juice bottles & etc……. We bought & distributed in the camps & the village.

The fear of being cheated from any cheater indicated us to have good information before going to visit that area, our sense of realization also gesticulated to our responsibility & asked us to make good planning rather than facing any indiscriminate situation on the spot.

So, the profound thinking, vigilant observation & keen interest of sincerity brought us to conclusion. Where we collectively decided the organizations that have their own camps in the affected areas to contact & visit them & if possible to take their representative with us & distribute things in front of our own presence.

Finally, we could contact one of the representatives of organization living in Kohat, Mr. Tanveer.

• According to plan 7o’clock (A M) sharp we started our journey & we left Kohat to Peshawar & then Nowshera. After four hours drive we reached to ASC colony in the camp of MWF where the organization organized its camp & almost tried to manage things with full of discipline.

According to their deputy director:

• There were 45 camps in which 75 families were accommodated & numbers of people were 485.
• In that camp 8 toilets (4 for males & 4 for females) were there.
• 4 water tanks which could accommodate 400 gallons each.
• The people in the camps were from the areas namely: Nowshera Calan, Charsadda, Akora Khattak & Khat Kali.
• Majority of them was of labors.
• 300 breads were prepared for one timing meal & for two timings total numbers of breads were 600. Just the price of only cooking per bread was 3 rupees so the amount of cooking bread was 1800 PKR (with out flour) per day.
• The expenses of ice for keeping water cold per day 1000 PKR.
• As they mentioned the per day expenditures amount was 25000 to 30000 PKR.

Then after spending sometime, we left for Pir Sabaq Killi. Before leaving the camp we handed over some cash amount to the organizers & the things they needed which we brought with ourselves for them.

So again we started our journey to Risalpur village & we got the company of Mr. Riaz Noor Shah, who was local & very kind man. After 6o minutes drive we reached to Pir Sabaq Killi in Risalpur which was thoroughly destroyed.

People were too poor. All around dirt & bad smell were there. Houses, shops & crops were destroyed. Animals were died. Very less people went to help them. Red Crescent Society distributed good rather very good package. But the society announced aid for 1500 people & gave only to 500 people. As a whole they distributed 7 trucks in that Killi. Their package was very good but distribution for less people so far.

We met the community head who had very good name & people of that Killi liked him a lot. We gave them all the remaining things we brought with us & cash amount to distribute among Killi people. This was a very good distribution in front of me because the person who lived in the community, he was the head of his vicinity & as well sincere, honest & faithful so he could distribute things better than us.

So a part than Red Crescent Society, I feel sorry for that all other organizations who collected the huge amount on the name of that people but in reality they’re vanished even the irresponsible role & ignoring behavior of government departments included some ministers & authorities who express emotional debates & exaggerate in front of media but their role is nothing in affected & particularly in backward & far areas. Everyone focuses to visit near & famous areas where soon after their reach media reporters come, take their pictures, make their movies, write their false promises & disclose them as heroes through their gallant speaches but just their first & foremost desire’s to collect money & then disappear.

How long will responsible departments neglect the presence of poor, needy & deserving population?

How long the affected population will be justified with injustice?

How long will the children of weak & pauper will be sacrificed for the sake of fulfilling the bulky stomach of greedy characters?
