The Facilitator helps the Local Rep (LR) to keep the project running smoothly on Nabuur, they will agree suitable tasks with the LR, add those to the website and keep them up to date, they will also help to encourage discussion between everyone involved. It is possible for a village to run successfully without a facilitator, but having one does make life easier for the LR. If you decide to start running a beautician course, you will need more equipment, so you will need to balance the costs of that against likely interest from students, whether the skills will help them get a job, and the income the centre is likely to make from it, that is something you will need to discuss as a group. You may want to look at whether there are other ways of making money using the equipment and skills you already have. I know you already hope to do that by making clothers to sell. Are there ways you can use the computers to make money as well as teach students e.g. will people pay to use them outside school hours. Of course that would mean having staff on-site, and there may be practical or security issues with having strangers inside the school buildings. The same is true of the library once you have the books. I have read of schools that have used their library as a source of income. Various Nabuur villages are looking at income generation in schools, and there is also a task for it in the Education group, so it should be possible to get ideas from others. For website, logo, books etc we can create separate tasks. This will make it easier for neighbours to know what is required, and to provide their input. Every village has their own way of setting up tasks, based on their needs and on how the Local Rep and facilitator prefer to work. For examples, have a look at Buchanan, the village in Liberia that I am facilitator for http://www.nabuur.com/en/village/buchanan/project You will also find plenty of others if you look on the Villages part of the site. Just to let you know, marys is my Nabuur ID, but my name is Mary! I am certainly not an expert on any of this, you have far more practical experience than I do!

It will be good to you to discuss income generation with the other people who are working with you. If you sit down and share ideas, you may think of many interesting possibilities.

Emphasis is upon quality, good condition of books and of appropriate content for the institution involved, rather than upon quantity. Parcels are small enough to be carried to even the most remote sites without roads. Great efforts are made to respond to requests made by schools and other institutions, and when no appropriate books are available from our second-hand stock new ones are purchased as funds permit. In addition to this we supply atlases, dictionaries, health books, eg, "Where There Is No Doctor" and "Where There Is No Dentist". "

hi mary,
i've sent message to romina about facilitator

& beautician course i think so will need too much money so it's better to work in that areas where i have sources to utilize like computers, machines & language.

as i'm getting response from you your suggestions always give me new ideas as you say
are there other ways to make money?
yes, there are, we have afghan refugees in our area i can get students from them to develop their skills but for this i've to contact to UNICEF if they can help me & if you can tell me about the organizations that work for refugees & education.

to tell you in matter of library i'm quite behind & don't have many books i wish if i can get some books

thanks mary,(sorry for marys)

Hi Adnan

If you ask Romina, she can add you to the list of villages that need a facilitator which is at http://www.nabuur.com/en/project/wiki/groups-needing-facilitator

There should be more information about the various volunteer roles in Nabuur in the Local Reps village (I can't check as I do not have access).

For examples, have a look at Buchanan, the village in Liberia that I am facilitator for http://www.nabuur.com/en/village/buchanan/project
You will also find plenty of others if you look on the Villages part of the site.

Just to let you know, marys is my Nabuur ID, but my name is Mary!

Since January, Adnan has been working on development of a strategic planning document for the school and having regular discussions with both Khadim Hussein, Mary, and I. The document is currently drafted based on our discussions and information that Adnan has shared with us. He was able to meet with Khadim in person in Pakistan which was fantastic.

There has been increased load shedding in Kohat which makes it difficult for Adnan to always be able to get online. This also has had a negative impact on the school because the students have not been able to consistently utilize the computers for learning because of the power being out.

Because of Adnan's desire to focus primarily on educating girls, I have really recommended that he seek out females in his community to gain input/advice about the school. Adnan was able to meet with a local woman who is a Senator and I understand that they had a very good meeting. She recommended that he visit the Social Welfare Office in Islamabad which he did. He talked with them about what needs to be done to register his organization formally as an NGO in Pakistan. There would be financial support for the vocational training center from the government if he is able to meet the registration requirements. It is a difficult process, but he is working toward that.

All the best-

Jennifer
