The Bakonzo have Cassava bread
(Obundu) beans( Ebihimba) and Fish
( Erihere) as their staple food. This is popular especially during Dinner.
For Lunch, most of the Bakonzo Prepare Cassava( Omuhogo) mixed with Beans, Maatoke( Banana's) with either beans or vegetables.
Beef or goat meat is prepared once in a while may be when we receive visitors in our homes, during Christmas, or when there is a special function at home.
Kasese is well-known for supplying Kampala with Passion fruits. Other fruits grown are Mangos, and to a less extent Pineapples.
On the low lands near Queen Elizabeth National Park, up land people come down to cultivate cotton. Yields in most cases are low due to the harsh weather. But in most cases when they realize some yields, they get some income after selling at the Lint Marketing board In Kasese Town.
The prices of cotton are still very low on the local market a kilogram goes for 500 shillings (3 times less than a dollar)
