Finalising the content of the Kyarumba web-site
Status:

We need to transfer the information of the concept of the Kyarumba Girls Education Fund to the Kyarumba site and present it in an attractive and engaging way. You can find the concept document under "Resources".
Project: Previous discussions

Dear Dennis,
I think we have lost track of things a bit here, because we have been thinking differently on this: through the discussions, I always thought that we would first upload the content to the site (according to structure discussed) and that we would then be able to say, what marketing texts or introduction texts would be necessary for each subject. This way we would be able to relate texts to headings and surrounding text even better.
You thought that we should firstly write these marketing texts, work on it and then upload the content (at this point, sorry if you expected something from me which was not done - it was not clear from the postings and as said, I thought of things differently).
Anyway, in order to proceed - I am happy to work and organise the work which needs to be done, in any way that you think is better.
Clare, as you will be working with the putting content on the site, how do you prefer to work? Do you want to receive everything ready before or do you want to upload the text and then receive necessary changes along the way?
Regards,
Eleftheria
Hi Eleftheria,
Considering the amount of work coming my way in the next few weeks, it would be much easier for me to upload the content once it was ready to go.
Perhaps we could work on it in Word document format, one document per page with necessary headings etc. Once we are all happy with it, we can move it to the site. This would be a quick transition, and we would then be able to proceed to the next step of the project!
I appreciate you must be very busy with the World Cup at the moment though. Once that is over, and you are able to advertise for more volunteers on the UN Volunteers site, this work should be completed fairly quickly.
I think we are suffering from lack of input at the moment - as you have already mentioned, really there are only a few of us here and we are all working overtime on the project. My feeling is that we need at least three more volunteers willing to work on the content.
Any ideas other than asking for a deluge from the UN site? Perhaps the project could be put on the Nabuur front page for a few days to bring in a few volunteers?
With best wishes,
Clare
Hello Guys am so sorry, i have been away for some time Reason(Long story).
So i saw the website and i was really happy with the way it looked like. clare -- Go girl u did it.
So what next? The text is what next.
I think you are right we need more neigbours of the Village. i have some friends i asked to join so i will ask them to join our village too hope that works for you guys. The Truth about my country is that we have many guys who have been to the University and they dont have anything to do so i will try to do some marketing for Nabuur(blive me am good)
Ok am out
Hi Geofrey
We have guys like that here too!
:-)
Good luck with rounding them up.
I agree with Clare about putting simple text in a simple document. It needs no formatting, just lines

like that
between drafts of pages.
Here I attach a start.
Adding page urls, copied from the web site.
Dennis
Dear Good People:
You all did a magnificent job! With all the inputs the website is already about to be finished and I agree with Eleftheria and Jessica that it is now time to move on to next Action/s Needed.
Best regards,
Junjun
Nice to hear your voice again. I think I owe you an email somewhere too!
This is indeed the new 'issue' and you are a great and important asset/contributor if you have a bit of time. We need to take the solid document text and use fresh eyes/mind to see ways of writing good bright inviting text (say 300-400 words) for pages within the site.. not copying across, but faithfully reflecting the ideas in attractive text to sell the 'product'
download my draft pages.doc in earlier message and see if you can add another page draft... if you have time and energy, I know you have many commitments,
best wishes
Dennis
Dear Dennis,
Thanks so much but website development is not my forte and it's the reason why I am keeping myself aside from the discussion. Instead, I am just following the discussion all along and hoping to butt in my ideas once I see it is relevant.
Anyway, why not visit my village, Sadhana? I know you can help us a lot there! So... I hope to see you there soon!
Best regards,
Junjun

Hi Junjun
I know you are busy, and may not have time --- for same reason as I am not able to commit time in your village.
but for the benefit of all readers, I need to make very clear that this is not a web design issue or task, it's a question of looking at the document and making from it bright little newsy information pieces that will engage people's attention. The page layout, etc, is another matter entirely.
best wishes
Dennis
Dear Dennis,
I understand very well your situation and I regard you as one of the best people here in Nabuur. Please understand me because my computer background is not very satisfactory and I will give my fair side once I see that topics discussed are appropriate to my knowledge and understanding.
Anyway, I'll always be here and hoping to contribute further the cause of the village of Kyarumba!
Best regards,
Junjun
Dear all,
Geofrey - thank you, that made me smile! :-) It's good to have you back... and fingers crossed you will be able to bring some friends to the village.
Dennis - great start, that's exactly the sort of draft we need. If we can work on all the pages in this way in Word format, and fill them out with the content needed, it will be much easier than trying to implement changes on the site every few days!
I agree that we must make it clear this is not about web design now - we are on the lookout for content writers!
Once we are happy with final drafts for each page, we can put them up on the website. Perhaps it would be an idea to work through the pages logistically.
By this I mean... start with finalising the content for the home page (the three different "introductory" sections). Then move to the three pages linked from these sections (at the moment - About Kyarumba, BWC, and Girl Education). After that we can work on the Sponsorship page, and the page with the girls' stories. Other Projects and News would follow from there, with Reference/Information as the page that pulls it all together at the end.
Of course we can work on them all at the same time, as and when we have text to go on each page, but it would be good to finalise the home page content in the next few weeks so that we can measure our progress!
With best wishes,
Clare
Hi Clare - yes, those are the key pages, but can we also leave the flexibility to allow people to put forward whatever ideas they may have as they come into their minds, for whatever page they think may be useful ... otherwise we close the door to new ideas.
you know I hate rules ... :-)
D
Absolutely - and I definitely didn't mean we would have rules! Or a rigid structure... just some sort of sense to the content building.
As I see it, the home page content will naturally flow into the three pages linked from that (but also vice versa), and they will naturally flow into other pages.
There does seem to be a logical (fluid) structure to the process, but at the same time if we have one Word doc with pages separated as you said with a line, then we can build the jigsaw from there.
In terms of repetition, we don't want to say the same thing over and over again on each page, but gentle reiteration wouldn't go amiss on some important points!
I hate rules too! :-)
Best wishes,
C
Hallo Clare, hallo Dennis, welcome back Geofrey,
1. Way of work
So let´s work the content and texts in word documents, finalising them and uploading them to the site. Dennis could you please e-mail me the document you have attached to your posting, because it does not seem to open?
Importnat to underline at this point– we do not work on design anymore, so dear Neighbours you do not need any PC or technical skills – we want you to look at the information availble on the document and let us know how we can link it and present it to the website
2. New Neighbours
In July I will get in touch with Pim about UN Volunteers. Meanwhile maybe Geofrey can convince some of his friends to join, I will see what I can do in this respect and hopefully Marianne : ) or other Neighbours could join us… Clare Vivian e-mailed me yesterday that she is extremely busy with studies in the following weeks but has not forgotten us!
Best wishes,
Eleftheria
Yes - it would be great to have Marianne back with us... and Liz and Lissette... and Clare V once she isn't so busy! Fresh eyes on the content would be a great help, and also with writing new texts!
Maybe Eleftheria you can send them personal messages via Nabuur as well as the group email? Then they'll know we really need them! :-)
