Finalising the content of the Kyarumba web-site
Status:

We need to transfer the information of the concept of the Kyarumba Girls Education Fund to the Kyarumba site and present it in an attractive and engaging way. You can find the concept document under "Resources".
Project: Previous discussions

Hi Clare, yes, you are at it after 1am - 10am here....
:-)
I will try to work on some of the text as soon as possible... I want to assure you and Jessica and others that in just now building
www.aplaceof.info/kiliba
and
www.aplaceof.info/acoke
I have not been involved in an act of abandonment, but also using that process to try to clarify in my mind what next here.
Kiliba, you will see, is weak on the fundraising pages. The current action, though, is for neighbours to email a developed list of organisations for fundraising, plonking on their desks the document accessible as pdf on the downloads page.
I am not at all sure they will thus find a big project buyer, and that village will be dealing with the same fundrasing issues we face... indeed the facilitator, Eric Cooperman, is seeking himself to set up in the US the sort of non-profit funding channel we need there and elsewhere.
I think that in looking at the pages, you might well wish to place yourself in your mind as an active member of a group of women graduates or other organisation:
http://www.distel.ca/womlist/womlist.html
... We have to put ourselves on the outside, the reader side, not the organiser side and try to find a way to make this all look special.
Also an issue in the overall construction of the campaign is the slide from changing attitudes to focus on scholarships... I think this needs clarification, perhaps from the mouth of the trustees. It seemed to me that the non-scholarship action plans made this special... the focus on scholarships places us in competition with the buy-a-child marketing in my local shopping centre by Save The Children, World Vision and CCF
http://www.christianchildrensfund.org/
where I understand Jessica works.... What is the special claim??? That is the key issue for content of the web site. There is no point in building something that will not work
best wishes
Dennis
Hello all,
First of all, thank you Eleftheria for 'getting the ball rolling' (and I'm not referring to World Cup here)! :-D And thanks to both you and Clare for clarifying what needs to be done.
So far I've made only very few changes, suggestions, etc. to the most recent document (you'll see they're the ones in orange on the attached document, at the end of this post).
As I was working on it, I thought would it not be more efficient to assign sections to various neighbors, as we have done in the past? Perhaps we can find out who among us is interested in working on content, and from there we can divide up the tasks. This way we can hopefully "work smarter, not harder" (i.e. not duplicate work done by others, and hopefully less confusion with multiple people making edits to various parts of the documents in different colored text!).
How about it neighbors? Who is interested in working on rewriting, editing, reorganizing and/or making suggested changes to the content that will be included on the new website? Of course, you can count me in on this task...
Sorry for the small number of edits/changes at this time. I will contribute more once I get your feedback on this issue...

Hello neighbors,
I'd just like to confirm whether the BWC is still identifying with, or using, PROGIE? I don't see it referenced in the content document, yet it is mentioned on Kyarumba.org in a couple of places.
If it is still in use, it needs to be clearly defined on the Home page and distinguished from the Kyarumba Girls Education Fund (are we calling this KGEF for short?) so that donors/sponsors understand the difference between them and how they are interrelated.
M.
I absolutely agree with Geofrey and Clare about adding more photos! Of trustees (I assume this is referring, at least in part, to BWC women), individual girls, group photos of girls, village life, teachers, and even the male clan members who support girl education. And of course more photos of Jessica - an integral part of the culture and the Girl Education project!
It would be great too, if we could obtain a photo of Naume Nzyabake, the first Kyarumba woman to graduate from university (the one who is quoted in the document). Jessica, is she a BWC member? Is she accessible? It would be wonderful to have a photo of her as a school girl, and a recent photo (a sort of "then and now" scenario). Also additional quotes by her, and the other female university graduates, peppered throughout the website would be great. They are Kyarumba's success stories, and whom today's girls aspire to be like!
It would also be ideal to include a role model theme somewhere on the site. Is this still something that we're going to be working towards? It relates to the whole Kindercaminata/Nyabibuya concept that was discussed long ago. Jessica, what are your thoughts on this?
M.
Hi Marianne
I think it's a great idea to assign sections to various neighbours... at the moment the task ahead seems almost insurmountable with the volume of information we have to work with!
Unfortunately, there do not seem to be that many of us here at present, but I still think it would be an idea if each of us started to work on an individual page, with all associated information and content, then we could perhaps come back together for a "critique" at a deadline date (to keep the ball rolling).
Your idea to have photographs to accompany the quote from Naume Nzyabake is spot on! Also additional quotes and success stories. Then we can get to work on the photographs of the girls with their stories of who they are, what their interests, ambitions, and future hopes are etc.
Great work!
Hopefully a few more neighbours will appear soon to help us with all of this!
With best wishes,
Clare
Hallo everyone and thanks for your comments,
all ideas are great and I agree with everything written – from photos, to personal touch, to the danger Dennis mantioned becoming one more scholarship project and needing to focus on changing attitudes as well.
May I please say something though? We tend to write this should be done or this should be done – why don´t we just go ahead and do what we suggest? For example, Dennis you write that sponsorship options should be not written in this way but in the form of „ 20 dollars will enable…“. Would you you like to work on this part? Or most importantly would you have the time for it?
We have all mentioned that specific parts need to be worked from specific Neighbours. Let´s just do this. I do not want to say Marianne you do that and Clare you do that.
So… :-)
Marianne, which parts of the document would you like to work on? Clare which part could you work on? Dennis would you have the time for something like this? Geoffrey? From what is left, I will take something up : ). We will set a deadline for having our parts ready and who knows, maybe other Neighbours join us and we have more support.
So…let the work begin!
Best wishes,
Eleftheria
Hallo everyone,
I hope you have a great time and that you are enjoying your week-end!
Let me know, if the way of work suggested suits you - this means picking up a part of the text, which you would like to work on.
Hopefully we will soon have the text ready as well and then we will be able to blend site and text together and have a look at what we have been working all along.
Best wishes,
Eleftheria
Hello Eleftheria and all neighbors --
I will start working on the Girl Education webpage (and corresponding text, such as 2.0 and 3.0)...
I find section 5.2, One-off Donations, to be very confusing, and agree with Dennis that it needs some work. There are too many options that might overwhelm a potential donor/sponsor.
Also, I was under the impression that "one-off" meant "one time" donation, yet this section is structured in such a way where it describes what a donor's monthly contributions can do (e.g. $6 per month/$72 per year will buy a girl books during primary education).
Should there not also be opportunities to donate a one-time amount? This way, the BWC can potentially raise more funds as it will provide more options for donors. Many people may want to make a donation once, not on a continual basis.
Bye for now,
Marianne
FYI: As I'm reading through the guiding document, I'm finding a number of typos and errors.
I don't want to divert attention from the current task at hand, but maybe we should edit this document again before using it as content/text for Kyarumba.org?
Eleftheria and Jessica -- let me know if you'd like me to also work on this now. If not now, this is something that we should do in the near future.
M.
Hallo Marianne and thank you for your postings,
I would like to clarify two things first of all:
1. Editing the concept document was an Action for a couple of months, but noone seemed to have any further commentson it.
At the moment, all information of this concept document can be found in the document „Webpages for Kyarumba“ (latest postings).
I would therefore suggest, that we use this document (Webpages for Kyarumba) as our working document and concentrate on working the text for the web for now.
And then if and when you find the time to work a bit on the concept document, that would be more than welcome.
I will therefore upload under resources the Webpages document, in order to avoid confusion.
2. Having this in mind, I believe that when you say you would like to work on the Girl Education web page, you refer to Number 4 of the Webpages document (Page 5). Correct? :-)
Sorry if this is a bit confusing but we need to make sure that we get things clear…. : )
You are right that the Sponsorship section needs to be worked, it is indeed confusing and we need to make sure that once-off donations are also included.
This section was developed by Clare. It was a first suggestion from her but it was not further commented on. We need to make sure that someone also works on this part as well, combining the information available with the suggestions from you and Dennis.
Take care and thank you for starting the work with the text, this is great,
Eleftheria
PS Could you please e-mail me the document "Webpages for Kyarumba 2", to be found in your posting of 16.06 for the last time? Cannot open it but I would like to upload it under Resources... Thanks!
Hi Eleftheria,
Yes, I will work on #4/Girl Education of the Webpages doc! Sorry for the confusion...
OK then, we'll leave the BWC's guiding document as is for now. But we really need to consider revisiting this in the future to 'clean up' some things. Unless, of course, this is not a document the BWC will be referencing, or needing, in the future. If it was just meant to serve as a draft, or the basis, for the Kyarumba website than perhaps we don't need to do anything further to it, and we can just make the edits as we work on the content that will be placed on the website. (Hope that makes sense?)
I'll work on #4 in the coming days and will post it when it's completed. And I'll email you the Webpages 2 document (which has only minor changes to it).
More to come soon,
M
Hi Marianne,
thanks a lot for your message and for your e-mail (and great to have you back!).
What you write about the concept document makes perfectly sense, I will need to talk with Jessica about this and will come back to you.
Have a nice day,
Eleftheria
Hello Eleftheria, Clare, Marrianne and Dennis,
Thanks for the contributions. I have been trying to upload the photos but in vain the cafes around here are too slow, I will keep trying.
I will review the contributions and will provide a comment later
Thanks
Jessica
Hi Jessica,
I know how frustrating this can be...
Good luck and warm greetings to Uganda,
Eleftheria
Very pleased to hear from you!
Hope you and the baby are both well.
I wonder if our Kampala neighbour Jeff with his internet business experience has any resources to help you process the photos. to make the files smaller before posting.
Best wishes
Dennis
