From September until December 2007 this Villages was featured amongst others. The purpose of featuring these Villages was to find out how Villages on NABUUR could get results quicker and more predictably.
[b]Results[/b]
Most of the Featured Villages experienced an influx of Neighbours by being featured. The majority of the Local Representatives was happy with the increased activity in their Village. Though in most cases the defined results were only partially achieved. Reasons for that were according to some Local Representatives that their goals were too ambitious, others found out their goals had to be redefined. Results that depend on finding (larger amounts of) funds are most difficult to achieve.
[b]Predictable[/b]
Based on the feedback of the Local Representatives, the following conditions seem to be good indicators for success:
- To achieve results a project should have a clear focus and small, concrete steps;
- There should be a local team in place;
- Specific activities attract more volunteers than planning issues;
- Finding funding or sponsors is still a difficult issue that many villages encounter;
- Being featured attracts Neighbours but visible community involvement is crucial;
- Regular discussions and updates are necessary to maintain an active group.
Because featuring of villages seem to be a useful tool, there will be another round. This time the focus will be on defining the project with a clear focus and small, concrete steps.
The lessons learned are input for the redesign of the NABUUR website.

It became exactly three years on 4th June 2008 since we came on line to promote girl education project.
The first day online, three neighbors Denis, Azania and Emmi signed up and filled the discussion Board with ideas. Marianne, Clare Vivian, Francis K, Claire Kerr, Eleftheria, Alfredo, Manuel P joined the following days, later the rest of you also followed.
Together we moved a journey discovering how we can make change in the lives of girls in Kyarumba
Please join me to evaluate our three years here on nabuur in terms of what we achieved, what went well, what did not go well and what needs to improve.
On the point of view of a local representative this comes my account for the three years;
1. What has been achieved?
Exposure to the world
Kyarumba and its community were able to get connected to the World Wide Web where thousands of people have got to know who we are and what our capacities and needs are. As a result, this exposure has built our confidence here in the community and we confidently share our webpage with visitors and confidently speak about our partnership with nabuur as well as our community interventions. As a result we are a respected organization in the community and outside
A motivated community of women
Since we joined nabuur and the update I continuously provided to the community, the BWC got motivated to work hard with hope that their dreams wouls come true with support of the nabuur neighbors. As a result we have continuously sustained community activities with minimal costs. e.g community sensitization on girl child, career guidance to girls( 80 girls are now under our care and are proud to be associated with our project) managed to mobilise now six groups from the subcounty now affiliated to BWC who have started saving on a monthly basis for their girl education future needs.
Formed BDF ( Bwimaniro Development Foundation)
As a result of our exposure through nabuur and the continuous reflection on our capacity and future opportunities the BDF is now operational with offices in Kasese and now exploring long term strategic partnership with the district, local donors and international organizations. Very soon, we will begin sharing project stories not problems.
Hosting visitors
As a result of the exposure Kyarumba is becoming a centre for community based tourism with attractions including a very receptive community, very beautiful mountainous nature and memorable home stays. we now receive visitors to the village on a monthly basis.
The independent site
The www.kyarumba.org site gives us publicity and now a harbor of information on our girl education project.
Nabuur a good Reference and partner
Nabuur has helped to link us to other organisatins like NGO ABROAD, International Contact Uganda, and Fairground. NGO abroad sent us a volunteer who has made Kyarumba her second Home. Working hard with us to ensure we translate ideas generated here into actions. Through International contact we have received another friend who has pledged to be our Dutch contact person.
Nabuur is a meeting place for all our friends
Each time I log on to the site and check how many neighbors have checked in, I get impressed how we have created long term friendship.
Plans developed
We have well designed plans for our girl education project, income generation and a demonstration school. This was achieved with help from neighbors.
What needs to improve?
-Sustaining discussion and visits online
-Fundraising online did not pick and now we have resorted to local fundraising which we are hopeful will yield results in the near future.
- Neighbors morale seems to have gone low but the spirits are still high for the Kyarumba girls and the project
Future dreams
- For three years we have been discussing endlessly online about Kyarumba problems and strategies for addressing them, we need another three years for community implementation of projects and we are very hopeful this will begin very soon.
- That all our one hundred neighbors online will one day make it to kyarumba off line in Uganda and experience the beauty of a good neighborhood.
And Lastly

Formed BDF ( Bwimaniro Development Foundation)
As a result of our exposure through nabuur and the continuous reflection on our capacity and future opportunities the BDF is now operational with offices in Kasese and now exploring long term strategic partnership with the district, local donors and international organizations. Very soon, we will begin sharing project stories not problems.
Hosting visitors
As a result of the exposure Kyarumba is becoming a centre for community based tourism with attractions including a very receptive community, very beautiful mountainous nature and memorable home stays. we now receive visitors to the village on a monthly basis.
The independent site
The www.kyarumba.org site gives us publicity and now a harbor of information on our girl education project.
Nabuur a good Reference and partner
Nabuur has helped to link us to other organisatins like NGO ABROAD, International Contact Uganda, and Fairground. NGO abroad sent us a volunteer who has made Kyarumba her second Home. Working hard with us to ensure we translate ideas generated here into actions. Through International contact we have received another friend who has pledged to be our Dutch contact person.
Nabuur is a meeting place for all our friends
Each time I log on to the site and check how many neighbors have checked in, I get impressed how we have created long term friendship.
Plans developed
We have well designed plans for our girl education project, income generation and a demonstration school. This was achieved with help from neighbors.
What needs to improve?
-Sustaining discussion and visits online
-Fundraising online did not pick and now we have resorted to local fundraising which we are hopeful will yield results in the near future.
- Neighbors morale seems to have gone low but the spirits are still high for the Kyarumba girls and the project
Future dreams
- For three years we have been discussing endlessly online about Kyarumba problems and strategies for addressing them, we need another three years for community implementation of projects and we are very hopeful this will begin very soon.
- That all our one hundred neighbors online will one day make it to kyarumba off line in Uganda and experience the beauty of a good neighborhood.

I will be trying to sell a guesthouse to people in the US who are very unfamiliar with rural Africa. I would like to come prepared with strategies for filling the guesthouse and actually making money. Or if you have any potential investors, please share.
I'm interested to hear your thoughts and advice.

On the 9th of May, I wrote that Jessica (local representative of Kyarumba) was to facilitate her own village. Since then, we learnt that this does not work for Kyarumba: in addition to being a local representative, Jessica is coaching other Ugandese local representative in working with the NABUUR website. The combination of these activities with being a facilitator takes to much time.

Dear Neighbours,
From September until December 2007 this Villages was featured amongst others. The purpose of featuring these Villages was to find out how Villages on NABUUR could get results quicker and more predictably.
[b]Results[/b]
Most of the Featured Villages experienced an influx of Neighbours by being featured. The majority of the Local Representatives was happy with the increased activity in their Village. Though in most cases the defined results were only partially achieved. Reasons for that were according to some Local Representatives that their goals were too ambitious, others found out their goals had to be redefined. Results that depend on finding (larger amounts of) funds are most difficult to achieve.
[b]Predictable[/b]
Based on the feedback of the Local Representatives, the following conditions seem to be good indicators for success:
- To achieve results a project should have a clear focus and small, concrete steps;
- There should be a local team in place;
- Specific activities attract more volunteers than planning issues;
- Finding funding or sponsors is still a difficult issue that many villages encounter;
- Being featured attracts Neighbours but visible community involvement is crucial;
- Regular discussions and updates are necessary to maintain an active group.
Because featuring of villages seem to be a useful tool, there will be another round. This time the focus will be on defining the project with a clear focus and small, concrete steps.
The lessons learned are input for the redesign of the NABUUR website.

It became exactly three years on 4th June 2008 since we came on line to promote girl education project.
The first day online, three neighbors Denis, Azania and Emmi signed up and filled the discussion Board with ideas. Marianne, Clare Vivian, Francis K, Claire Kerr, Eleftheria, Alfredo, Manuel P joined the following days, later the rest of you also followed.
Together we moved a journey discovering how we can make change in the lives of girls in Kyarumba
Please join me to evaluate our three years here on nabuur in terms of what we achieved, what went well, what did not go well and what needs to improve.
On the point of view of a local representative this comes my account for the three years;
1. What has been achieved?
Exposure to the world
Kyarumba and its community were able to get connected to the World Wide Web where thousands of people have got to know who we are and what our capacities and needs are. As a result, this exposure has built our confidence here in the community and we confidently share our webpage with visitors and confidently speak about our partnership with nabuur as well as our community interventions. As a result we are a respected organization in the community and outside
A motivated community of women
