Christmas Party 2008
Status:

Last year the community organized a very successful Christmas party with the support of neighbours from around the world. This year they would like to organize a similar party, but require your assistance again!
If you have ideas, contacts or items to make the party a special day for the children of Kyomya, please post here or contact David. Some ways people helped last year was by raising funds and by donating small gifts for the children.

Hi Everyone,
Following on the success of last year's Christmas party, the community would again like to organize a party for the children of Kyomya. If you have any ways to help, please post here or contact David.
Thanks!
Barb
Hello,
As always I'm very interested in helping please let me know =)
As always - good to hear from you, and the question set forth is what can You contribute? Some people, like Jen and I are contributing 2-3 small gifts for all the kids, we need money for cakes and sodas, but you have to let us know what you want/and are able to contribute - your suggestions welcome. By the way, I never heard back from you re: the calendar? what's the status? thanks

Hello,
Well how would I go about to contributes some small gifts as well? Is there a way to purchase them and send ? Or perhaps for some soda and cakes, I just am not sure how to go about it. Also for the calendars I need to approach the council as I have already mentioned it but I need all the correct figures and info.
Tia
Hi Barb and David,
It might be an idea to contact last year's donors to see if they could and are willing to help out with this year's party.
I'm not sure if these Neighbours are still with the online project or kept up communication with David. Their names are mentioned in separate news postings from December and January: http://www.nabuur.com/en/village/kyomya/news?page=5
Just a thought. :)

Hi Barb, Ro and all Friends of Kyomya!!!!
As posted by Barb, we have planned a christmas party for the village children under the project, their guardians, local leaders and the Project committee where we plan to come together just after Dec 25th but before new year and will (confirm the date) to reflect on where we have come from, where we are and where we are going, listen to the various testimonies from the children, orphans, widows, women, men,Local leaders, religous leaders and many others we shall invite whose lives have been touched by this project. we plan to host over 200 guests. There will be reading of school reports for the children, awarding prizes to children/students who will have excelled in academics, good behaviour, smartness, etc. The Parish Vicar will be invited to provide a sermon, counsel the children, guardians, etc. There will be nice food, drinks, decorations, music and plays during the day. all this will be held under our tent and open space at the village office. we are still discussing the draft budget for the party with our 2 facilitators and once we have agreed, we shall post it here online.
Kindly do chip in to make the day lively because 366 days is no joke!! it's a long journey we have walked and so we have all the reason to set off one day to reflect and also celebrate.
Hope to hear from our online friends on this subject,
Thanks and best regards,
David Sabiiti.K-

Hi Tia,
There are a few ways to easily contribute to the Christmas celebration. You can buy some items that are small and light weight and send them to David and KSP at the address on our web site... www.hopeforkyomya.org or you can send funds and David can purchase whatever you would like to contribute. Ginger and I have decided to purchase some small items for each of the children that will be attending. I am ordering them from a company here in the US and will have them shipped to either myself or Ginger and then we will ship them through the US post service to David and KSP in Uganda. Not cheap shipping but that's the best we can do for now. I know David can get many nice items in Jinja or Kampala if you wish to send funds. Email David and he can give you the details for sending funds.
Thanks so much for your thoughtfulness for the children and people of Kyomya.
Sincerely,
Jennifer
Hi Jen and Tia!
Thanks very much for the postings. Tia,Jennifer has summed it all. Just a supplement here. we have planned to order for a Christmas cake for KSP, will buy variety of foods and sauce, sodas, decorations, gifts ,etc. so in case you are willing to be part of this event, you can either send gifts in kind as Jen has indicated or send funds. for funds you can use western union, money gram or send to our account.
In case you or other friends need to have a look at the budget, kindly email me on kibagood@yahoo.co.uk
am also available on cell 24/7 on +256 772 594757.
Thanks to you all and we hope for the best,
David
Hello David and others,
I was wondering how many children will be attending this Christmas party?
Tia - we generally plan on 150 - but who knows, we have become so popular, perhaps 200 will show? The group that we work with directly is about 136.
Jen and I have purchased little gifts for I believe 144 that I will have kids here wrap and send off to David in 2 weeks. We also purchased the decorations. We now need money for food and drinks and party cake- approximately $300 and and additional 'gift' for the children - a decent cup they can use year round - like a strong rubberized cup. In Uganda they are 90 cents each $150- I do not know if we have any better deals here - but then we have to add postage - possibly $30 USD!!! Better probably for David to purchase if we can get donations. Thanks!
Ginger :)
Hello Ginger,
Thanks for all the info, A girl form my work and I have teamed up and agreed to purchase the sturdy cups for the children, so basically we western union $ 150 to David? I have all the info
Thank
P.S when is the due date for this?
Tia
Hi Tia-- WOW! that was fast! David was so excited and asked me to write you to send it right away if possible. I don't know how much it will cost for you to Western Union him, but give it a try - and thanks again!!!

Tia,
Wow...great job! The cups will be a wonderful addition to the party and will last the children for quite a long time. Thanks so much for your donation and your commitment to Kyomya.
Jen
Hi Tia,Jennifer!
Thanks Tia for uniting with a friend there for the Kyomya cause. Thanks very much!!These cups will stay with the children and they will have some thing to stay with/remember after a heavy meal, nice cake and sodas. The party is slated for 28th December, however am of the view that you send the funds now so that we purchase the items and store them. Now here is the reason. The credit crunch is here with us in Uganda too.The USD was selling at 1,600= two weeks ago,now it sells at 1,900= to 2,000= meaning that our Uganda shs has lost value. The same money one would have say a month ago now buys less goods! we just dont know how it will be in Nov and Dec? so when you send , we shall buy the cups, get a receipt, take a picture and send you/post online right a way. distribution will be on the 28th day as planned.
Thanks Jen for the regards,Thanks Tia for the extra mile,Thanks every one who cares and is supporting Kyomya east village activities.we value your time, searches and efforts!!! Lets do more when we can.
Regards,
David.
