Help us find volunteer teachers for the school

Notre Dame High School is seeking volunteer English, biology and computer teachers, as well as people with experience of school administration and proposal writing.
We have created an information document and application form for potential volunteers, which are attached.
Please suggest ways that Christopher can find suitable volunteers e.g. websites to advertise on, or organisations that place volunteers in Africa. Please include details of sign-up/application processes if known.
Also post here if you would be interested in volunteering at the school yourself.

Hi Christopher
The organisation behind Nabuur Kawempe village has recently set up a service to find volunteers for communities in Uganda.
See
http://www.nabuur.com/en/village/kawempe/project/task/volunteer-opportun...
I know I suggested this to you a while ago, so please let us know how you get on with contacting them and whether they can assist you with finding volunteer teachers.
Have you created a document with information and guidelines for volunteers, as well as a contract and application form? If so, please can you post them. If not, we can set up a separate task to help you create them - we can base on information from other volunteer programmes, but it will need to be modified to your needs.
Mary
Dear Mary,friends,
I did contact nabuur friends Kawempe. They gave me a telephone contact, but have not done so as its quite a bizy time for us here at school.I cannot travel to Kampala that is over 80 miles away until after the exams. The holidays bigins on 06th,August 2010.
Will try after that date.
We have not yet made the document for volunteers including the application form.
Please, you can go ahead trying contacting other organizations for the volunteers.
Do we need such documents for volunteer requests ?
Can some one help to design one for us?
May you be blessed.
Yours
CHRISTOPHER
HI Christopher
I hope the exams go well!
Hopefully you will be able to call them once things are quieter and have an initial conversation on the phone. You and they can then decide whether you want to meet and discuss things further.
You are certainly going to need a clear job description, information on the local area etc, as potential volunteers will need a clear idea of what the work will be (e.g. teaching English, lesson planning, general school work etc), minimum/maximum length of stay, whether it is a place they wil enjoy staying (food, accommondation) etc.
And if you register with any volunteer-finding organisations/websites, they will need this information too.
Also a way for people to apply if they contact you directly e.g. you will want to know about them, why they want to volunteer with you, what teaching qualifications/experience they have etc. I will set up a task for this later.
Other villages e.g. Kiserian http://www.nabuur.com/en/village/kiserian/project/task/volunteer-teacher... are also working on this as they are looking for volunteer teachers too, so we may be able to learn from what they and others are doing.
Mary
Dear Mary,
Thank you fr the information.
Christopher
Dear Mary,
Have not contacted Kawempe Village.
As i had informed you,our second term begun 6th.August 2010.
Our children went for holidays, but without the reports. We are still marking the final end of term exams.
The reports are getting ready and will be collected on friday 13th,August.
After that date,i will be having the time to move to Kampala, which is 88 miles away from masaka/school.
Please, may you go ahead to set up a task to help me create the information document, contract, application etc.. basing on other volunteer programs
Again,i still find it difficult to use the fecebook website/accepting you.Have tried but still failing.
Thank you very much once again.
Christopher
Hi Christopher
Sounds like you are having a busy week!
The task for setting up info for volunteers is at http://www.nabuur.com/en/village/masaka/project/task/create-information-...
Don't worry about Facebook, I was able to link you with those people via email - if you didn't get them, let me know.
Mary
Hi Christopher
This was posted by Maria in the Education Group
If you decide to get listed on the site, I would recommend that the information document is completed first, as you will need these details when adding your volunteer listing.
Mary
Hi Christopher
Suggestions so far have been:
HB Volunteer Uganda
http://www.nabuur.com/en/village/kawempe/project/task/volunteer-opportun...
and http://hbvolunteeruganda.yolasite.com/
Workaway
http://www.workaway.info/information-for-hosts.html
Ugandan organisations who may be able to assist your staff with IT teaching skills
Uconnect
http://www.uconnect.org/
SchoolNet Uganda

Have you had a chance to contact any of these?
You can also add your opportunities to Idealist http://www.idealist.org/
Now we have the information document, you can use that information when registering opportunities on other sites.
Don't forget to make a list of all the sites you have registered with. You will need to keep information up to date.

Hi Mary,
Thank you very much.

Hi Nguyen Mai Huong
Welcome to Nabuur!
As you have probably read, Nabuur links communities in developing countries with online volunteers anywhere in the world.
This task is focused on helping Christopher to find on-site volunteers for a secondary school in Uganda, in a place called Masaka. So if you have ideas on how he can do that, please post them here. If you decide to do so, I would also suggest that you join the village as a neighbour (click on the Join link). That will make it easier for you to keep up to date with the Masaka discussion as new posts will be shown on your My Nabuur page.
If you don't have any ideas for this task it is OK! There are many others to choose from on the site, have a look at the Volunteer Opportunities and Villages pages.
Mary
Hi Christopher
Have you been able to register on Idealist? Once you have, let me know and I will add the volunteer opportunites.
I have updated your entry on Workaway, so now we just have to wait for them to approve it.
Another option may be Christian Volunteering http://www.christianvolunteering.org/ where Christian-based groups can post volunteer opportunities. I will look at this in more detail later, but wanted to post it now so I don't forget!
