One way to make the information as complete as possible is to think about the kind of questions you would ask if you were going to teach at a school you had never seen, in a country you had never visited before, and where things were very different to how they are in Uganda. If you were thinking of going to work at a school here in the UK, or in China, what would you want to know first? Then answer the same questions about your school, as they are probably the same ones that international volunteers will ask when considering whether to volunteer with you. Dear Mary help to put it in the right position ABOUT THE SCHOOL Notre Dame High School is a community-run school in Masaka District in Uganda. It provides secondary education and vocational skills training to orphans and other children from disadvantaged backgrounds, and has over 400 students, both girls and boys. The school is run on Christian principles, but accepts children from all walks of life regardless of their religion,tribe,ethinicity or political background. There is a mixture of day and boarding students due to the long distance that some have to travel to the school. The school is located at Kirinda village,mukungwe sub county. [Christopher, add any more relevant info about the place] JOB DESCRIPTION The school is seeking volunteer English and computer teachers or for biology. You will be involved in teaching secondary-level students, and planning lessons. It would also be an advantage if you are able to provide training/mentoring to other teachers at the school. The average class is 65 students.The student’s age is 14 – 20. The teachers wanted are of 35-50 years or more. [Christopher, I am guessing, based on the info you have provided. Please can you give full details of exactly what kind of teachers you want – is it just English teachers, or other subjects too, and what they will be required to do? Also average class sizes, ages of students.] EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS [Christopher, am assuming you want people who are qualified to teach? Do you want volunteers with other skills too?] Volunteers teachers must have attained either ´ diploma or ´ degree in education,or computer studies. Volunteers with other types of skills like administration,proposal writing are very much wanted. PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS You should be flexible, open-minded and keen to work with and learn from people from different cultures. As Uganda only has limited healthcare facilities, you should be in reasonable health. [Christopher - You said that you want teachers aged 40-70 – is age important, or would you also accept younger people who have experience? I know you are a Christian school, would you accept volunteers who are not Christian providing they will respect your beliefs?
