Review and suggest improvements to information document and application form for on-site volunteers

Status: Finished
Step:
1

Notre Dame High School is looking for on-site volunteers.

Potential volunteers will need clear information on the school, the work they will do, accommodation, costs, the local area etc.

They will also need to complete an application form providing details about themselves, their experience, and their reasons for wishing to volunteer.

Using information provided by Christopher we have created both documents, and they are attached.

We would like volunteers to review these documents and suggest any information that needs to be added or amended to make them clearer or more attractive to potential on-site volunteers.

Thanks Christopher. I will use this to update the document sometime over the next couple of days. I was not aware that you had computers at the school, but given that you are looking for a computer teacher, I assume you do now? One way to make the information as complete as possible is to think about the kind of questions you would ask if you were going to teach at a school you had never seen, in a country you had never visited before, and where things were very different to how they are in Uganda. If you were thinking of going to work at a school here in the UK, or in China, what would you want to know first? Then answer the same questions about your school, as they are probably the same ones that international volunteers will ask when considering whether to volunteer with you. Is this something you could do with some of the other school staff once exams are over? Mary ==== Info from Christopher: Notre Dame High School is seeking volunteer English teachers. Hi everyone

Christopher has sent me some more information (included at the end of this post) in answer to the questions in the document I posted yesterday.

Mary

I don't know very much about Uconnect and SchoolNet Uganda, just what I have seen on their websites.

From what I read, they are more likely to be a place to get information, provide assistance to teachers. Not a source of money, although both could be a source of more computers. I do not know whether they charge for services.

As they are both in Uganda. I would suggest that you contact them, explain the situation i.e. you have computers but no one with the skills to teach students, and see whether they can assist in any way. Contact details below.

Will update the volunteering document soon, although I think you will still need to do as I suggested a few days ago, and sit down with one or two others at the school to get all the necessary information added.
