Review the Masaka application form and help to define the steps and tasks
Status:

Attached is the application form for the project of Masaka.
Please read it over and comment on what you feel is needed in order to formulate the project. We need to define the initial steps to undertake, keeping in mind that short and concrete tasks are more feasible.
Project: Help Improve Notre Dame High School

Great Christopher.
Look forward to hearing from you
Raul
Hi Raul,Mary,
You wanted to know about the solar penels that we of recent inslalled at the Notre Dame School.
its not a countrywide program.
As you may not be aware, our school lacks many things,
water,lights,more classes,computers etc...
But we got a friend in the Uk,who even visted us here in Uganda 2007,and he did process a twinning program for our school with 'Blessed Thomas Holford Catholic Collage -Uk'
This school ,whose pupils are very kind and so concerned, donated 3000 pounds of which we have used to buy soler equipments to put some light at the school.
Our friend is called Norman Martin.
This friend is also very good and kind to the needy children .
Lights at our school is not enough, but what we have at the moment given by Blessed Thomas School has brought a great and wonderful change to the pupils.
Christopher
Hi Christopher
That is great news!
I know that many schools form partnerships with others round the world. If they can exchange letters or work together on joint projects, its a great way for young people to get to know others in different places.
Have you or the UK school ever had any contact with organsiations that help you to further develop the link by providing practical advice and possibly funding? For example the UK DFID Global School Partnership programme http://www.britishcouncil.org/globalschools.htm
If not, it may be worth you or them checking it out!
Mary
Hi Christopher,
Great to hear from you and also great to hear more about the school twin proram. That has worked well in a couple of villages.
Raul
Dear Mary
Thank you for the information.l have sent an e-mail to the contact person of the Blessed Thomas Holford School, for they can try from there.
In Uganda,we have tried several times by e-mail and written ordinary posted letters ,but we have had no single responce.
But it looks it is a very nice program and especially for the young ones helping young ones.
All of us must know that no body has much but if one one help another with the little at one's desposal, great work can be done. This can be done if the young ones are taught at the early stage how to help one another.
Of recent ,l begun such a system at our school, what we called 'CARITAS NOTRE DAME'I explained to the chidren the importance of every body being kind to another .We picked from our children 10 children to represent the whole school and we visted another orphanage 'SSENYANGE ORPHANAGE CENTRE 'located in the slum of Ssenyange, but for the abandoned babies and negrected, and orphans of 3-9 years.
On our return, and after story tales,we requested children at Notre Dame School to donate to the babies.
YES,though, these are also poor but some things like clothes, pieces of soap, pencils etc... were collected and sent to SSNYANGE ORPHANAGE.
The items were quite few but it simbolised new calture being brought into the youngones. This will be done every year at our school.
Thank you so much, all that are descussing with us.We have big hopes that since our hands are joined we can learn much from one another
God's blessings.
Christopher
Hi Christopher
Hope Blessed Thomas Holford School are successful in finding out about that partnership programme. If not, there will be other similar options out there I am sure.
That's great to hear about your kids helping others! Its always good when a school can become a real part of the local community. Everyone benefits if young people are encouraged to care about other people.
Getting to know and learning from people in very different places is one of the great things about Nabuur too!
How is the proposal writing going?
I often wonder about the possiblity of setting up links between some of the school projects on Nabuur, so that the kids could get to know others around teh world. Have no idea if this would be practical. Raul, wonder if its something to look at as part of the new website design?
Mary
Hi Mary,
It could be a very interesting exercise. Any ideas on how it could be developed? I mean what sort of exchange where you thinking of? knowledge, experiences, their normal life?
Raul
Hi Raul
I don't claim to have fully thought it through, but all of those - solutions that have worked in one place could work in others too, teachers could learn from each other's experiences.
But mostly finding a way for kids to get to know each other. They will find many differences between each other, but also much in common I think. It will also help them to see that there are others who succeed at school under difficult circumstances. Kind of like the link that Christopher has set up between Notre Dame and Ssenyange but on a wider scale.
There are schools on Nabuur from all over the place - Uganda, Congo, Kenya, India, Nepal, many more.
Christopher, what do you think - do you think it is something you and others would be interested in if it could be set up?
Mary

NB:lt has been a villiday for our pupils here at Notre Dame High School/National.
We are getting back to School 26/05/2008.This is very difficult time for some of us ,as there is no clean water.
Dear Mary,Raul and friends.
If such a Linking program is set, there will be wonderful work to be done to try to help or shear idias to solving problems.
What people must understand is that, there very many people in the world that lack things because they do not know how things can be done/solved.
Also especially at the young age, must know how to shear of the big or the little or the middium.Material or phiscal or real.
lam very sure if we had been twinned to 3 schools or 2,we would have done much work here.
Forexample:Pupils at our school do write letters to Blessed Thomas Children, and sheared idias of thier needs, and the out come was the fundrising for the soler penels to put light at school.
Many have been writting to their friends to shear ideas and for working out solutions .
We further invite any solution to link schools /teachers through nabuur.
Hi Christopher,
Great to hear about the proposal being finished. I will have a look at it as soon as I get a chance.
When do you think the one for the piggery project will be ready?
Raul
Hi Christopher,
Thanks for sending the proposal and for the effort putting it together.
I think it would be a good idea to program a chat where we can discuss it into more detail.
IS there any specific time or day that would work better for you?
Mary, would you be available for a chat as well so we can all discuss it?
Look forward to hearing from you all.
Raul
Dear Raul,
We have hope that the Proposal for Peggery will be ready by 24,May ,2008,God's willing.
Christopher
And a time for a chat Christopher?
Can you send me your yahoo or msn chat id please?
Raul
Dear Raul.
Thank you so much for inviting us for a chat.
However, this is to inform you that most of the cafes we have in Uganda have no facilities for chatting.
