GOOD NEWS, FINALLY!

Dear Neigbours and friends! We are happy to inform you about the progress made so far on the Secondary school building.

We have some good news, finally.
The attached photos are showing the progress made so far on the Secondary school for orphans and vulnerable children living in a slum area (Matopeni) on the outskirts of Nairobi in Kenya. The project is administrated by Boston Children Centre . The building of the first three rooms will be completed in the end of November. The walls for six toilets are also already constructed. January 2012 the very first children in this slum area will have the opportunity to secondary education! These three rooms are just the "beginning", still more classrooms and other facilities will be needed. The most urgent need is right now to enclose the school compound with a perimeter wall (a fence build by stones). The building is standing in the middle of the field. Goats, cows, sheeps and also strangers can walk into the classrooms from any direction . It is one of ours most urgent goals to serve this problem.

Kind regards from Stephen (LR) and Ildikó (Facilitator)

Thank you, Mary!
Well it is just the beginning, there is still a very long way to go. But we must hope that lives of many children in the future can be changed.
Thank you for being a neighbor since so long time now (maybe from the beginning).

Have a nice day!
Hugs

Hi,

Hi Mary,
As my facilitator has just said, you have been and you will still be a good neighbor, adviser and Matopeni friend. You have been with us for such a long time of struggle to have a primary school and Secondary school facility in place for Matopeni children. We have really put your good ideas, suggestions and advises together with those from other neighbors into consideration and that is why we have come this far through God's grace. I know we still have a very long way to go to the finishing line and together with you and other neighbors am sure we will make it. We would like to build the fence walls and equip the 3 laboratories that will enable students do their practical studies. Many will agree with me that laboratory equipments especially for Secondary schools practical studies are very expensive and to buy them one may need a lot of money to purchase them. This will be our next project where by we will be fund raising to buy laboratory equipments for high school students.
I will keep you posted on the progress.
God bless you,
Stephen.

Hi Stephen

Its nice to see you online again - haven't seen you here for ages :)

Notre Dame High School (Nabuur Masaka) were also trying to find lab equipment a while ago - they tried http://labaid.org/ but not sure how far they got, as I think you have to arrange/pay for your own shipping. We tried a few others as well, but no luck. So I suspect you are going to have more fundraising in front of you.

Of course, other volunteers may have some good ideas too!

Hi Mary, hi Stephen!

Thak you Mary for labaid.org!

Stephen, must it be three separate laboratories (for Physics, Chemistry and Biology)? Of course equipement is needed independing on rooms. Is there somewhere written by the authorities exactly which things are needed for the different laboratories? If there is one can you post it to me?

Kind regards,
Ildikó

Dear all and friends you.
Thank you so far for the worl done.
Iam very sorry to ask,l have looked at the newly being constructed classes, but i can note the walls are very short. Why,lam requesting that when constructing other classes you put up walls that are tall enough.Shorter walls do not allow enough fresh air into classes while children are there.lt becomes very hot especially during hot periods.
Unless there is a reason for shorter ones.
Ian requesting that if possible visit www,notredamehighschool.cfsites.org and if its ok you can build classes of the same nature.
lam very sorry if this sounds not very good to some

Hi Christopher,

thank you too for the good work you have done!

Concerning the walls, you can relax :-) they are high enough and well positioned to be laid slab on top of it to have another storey up it. The building is planned by professional skilled people. The walls are exactly so high like the walls of the new primary school. I was there at very warm weather and I found the air enough in the classrooms also with quite many pupils. Of course if one has money enogh then it is possible to build higher walls, but BCC is not that lucky,it is not possible to use money for something else that's absolutely necessary. The secondary school will have a common normal standard, approved by the authorities.

I appreciate your concern, Christopher. Thank you!

I wish you a blessed weekend and a continuerly blessed work!

Kind regards,
Ildikó

Dear friends, the link provided is ok.
Labaid did donate some basic equipments. But what is required is to be having one or an organisation that can pick the donated equpments and again you would need some funds to ship equipments to your country.
I mean if you request and a donation is offered ,otherwise,Notre Dame High school has gone some way as far as equipments are concerned. Please try and see.

Hi Christopher,
Thanks alot for all your comments they are good and worthy to be emulated! As Mentioned earlier by our Facilitator, the walls of our school building are strong and tall enough almost 15 fits up and we can not raise them any more. We are currently looking at how we can find laboratory equipments for our new Secondary school.

Hi Ildiko we have catalog listing all the recommended lab equipments for the 3 laboratories. Its aproject that needs to be well thought of so as to get the equips. But i strongly believe that God will be on side to see us equip our labs.

I will post here the budget for the laboratory equipments and pictures showing how far we have gone with our construction.

Kind regards,
Stephen.

Dear friends,
Unless otherwise, one lab room can be enough, only that you need cupboards into the room. You can use one at a time then as you move you can separete them.
At ours, what we do is to use some while for practicals in respective classes, this is for sefety of the equipments.
Hope you can start slowly like that then as tine goes to achieve at alarger scale.

Hi Christopher,
Many thanks for your good advise! I do agree with you that for the start we only need one room to make a laboratory. We will start small and grow bigger together with the institution. Its only that at this hour of time we don't have money to buy the equipments neither do we have even funds buy cup boards for the Laboratory. The room is empty as we look for ways of raising funds to equip it.
With much thanks,
Stephen.
