HELP TO BUILD A SECONDARY SCHOOL FOR MATOPENI CHILDREN!
Dear Matopeni Team, dear Neighbours,
We hope that you are fine wherever you are and we hope that you are enjoying your summer holidays. We would like to inform you about the ongoing efforts to build a secondary school, “ Boston high school”, for children who will be graduating from B.C.C primary school. The school fees for secondary school education are very expensive and therefore neither orphans nor vulnerable children from very poor families have the possibility to continue studying on secondary level. Without further education the children do not have a chance to find other jobs than badly paid casual works where they cannot earn their living. There is a big risk that they are forced to return to the streets. Especially for girls, this situation is very hard. Without any education and without a job, the girls end up in early and bad marriages or have to turn to prostitution.
We at B.C.C are working hand in hand with a group of women from the North Eastern part of Kenya that rescues young girls from early marriages and female genital mutilation (F.G.M) and we have already helped several girls in B.C.C who were rescued from F.G.M. Moreover, our school allows girls who have given birth to re-join school so that they can finish their education.
It is due to the vulnerability of girls that we decided to plan building a boarding secondary school for girls while boys will be day scholars. Also, our secondary school will work as a drop-in centre for rescued girls from any part of Kenya, and especially from communities that oppress young girls through F.G.M and early marriages and communities that merely educate boys. Once girls have been rescued from e.g. the North Eastern part of Kenya, they will need a place to stay and learn, and B.C.C boarding school can take care of them. We can also use the school to accommodate pregnant girls and their children so that their future can be bright through education.
We are working with the government of Kenya to start offering adult education on the B.C.C compound, whereby we will provide classrooms to be used in the evening after school, and the government will give us teachers. Most of the adults who are willing to come and learn are mature women who have dropped out of school due to various reasons – one of them being early pregnancy and poverty.
So far, the Matopeni community development board has donated a piece of land big enough to build a secondary school and possibly expand it to have a boarding facility on the same land. We are working very hard to find charity organizations which are willing to support the Secondary school project and therefore we are humbly reaching out to so many members as possible so that we can do this search of organizations together as a team.
If you are a fundraiser or you would like to be one, please let me know.
If you have a friend or a relative who is a fundraiser please let us know as well.
If you know any charity organization/s that work/s in Africa Kenya that can fund our project please let us know.
We are ready to provide all the information regarding the project to anyone who is interested in helping us with any of the mentioned tasks.
Hoping to hear from you all.
Kind regards,
Stephen Okwaro,

Since you already own the land, the next logical steps are:
- from your own experience, estimate the number of classrooms and other facilities required for the school (can be done locally at your end)
- contact a few architects and local builders for an estimate of expenditure for construction of the school (must be done locally at your end)
- arrange funds for construction of the school
Arranging funds might be the real issue. Funds could be generated through any suitable income-generation scheme to achieve self-sustenance without external support. If a more convenient route is desired, you could resort to fund-raising, which is a very popular activity on nabuur. Setting up a task titled "FUND-RAISING to build Secondary School" would then draw more attention from fund-providers.
Vijai
Hi Vijai,
thank your four your comments and ideas! The number of the needed facilities is already clear, also the budget plan and the funding request is almost ready too. The problem is always the same, the lack of funds.
You are right we absolutely need a special task for fundraising for the secondary
school.
Thank you again, kind regards,
Ildikó
Hi Vijrai,
Thanks very much for joining us and your good ideas.Just as Ildiko has said we have already developed a budget plan for the building activity, the building plan is also in place and we are out looking for funds to build it.If you know any organization/s or that works in Kenya you can let us know so that we can put it on the list of funders.
Thanks Ildiko for your good information at the start of the task.It contains all the good ideas that Matopeni secondary school would like to achieve.I do invite all our neibours both old and new to join hands towards realization of this project. All your good ideas are very much welcome.
God bless you all,
Stephen.
Hello Ildikó and Stephen,
It is good to know that you have the basics already worked out and are just waiting for the funds to roll in. In my previous post I had felt it necessary to take you straight to the issue of funds, since that is obviously what the task is all about, and engaging neighbours in discussions or seeking opinions on non-fund issues is simply going to delay matters and will not translate into funds for your village.
To further fast-track your efforts, you could start a task for fund-raising - use the heading "FUND-RAISING for ..." (complete heading as mentioned in my last post). This is sure to grab the attention of any fund-providers on nabuur who may be regularly scrolling through the tasks.
In addition, you may also be contacted by some neighbours on nabuur who specialize in advice on fund-providers external to nabuur, and who might certainly guide you further.
I personally do not involve with funding or fund-raising, and also do not have creditable fund-provider contacts whom I could refer to you. Nevertheless, I might just drop in to your task later if I find matters are stuck, just to give it another big push forward.
Meanwhile, please accept my best wishes for the success of your task.
Vijai
Hi Vijai,
Let me just put it clear that we are stranded. We don't have funds to build a secondary school and again the community that donated the land gave us a time limit to try and use the piece of land if not they will claim it back.So that time limit is really pushing us hard to the corner so that before the that times expires we must have put up something in the name of a structure. So that is basically what we are supposed to do.
Regards,
Stephen.
Stephen, I understand your position, and this is all the more reason for you to fast-track your efforts. On the other task that you have created for "ideas for fund-raising", I can see that a neighbour has already posted a query regarding the amount of funds required, and is awaiting your reply.
Also, as already suggested in my earlier post, you must create a task on nabuur titled "FUND-RAISING to build Secondary School". A direct approach always helps. The other task that you have already created is titled "Ideas for fundraising ...". In my opinion, you need "Funds" and not "Ideas for fundraising". If this gels with you, you may like to edit the title suitably. Dabbling in "ideas" will only delay all your efforts, since the same ideas are doing the rounds on nabuur at most villages, and you might as well read threads of a few villages to pick all the ideas around.
Hopefully your efforts will meet with success soon.
Vijai
Dear Stephen and friends to Metopen,
Please, keep trying and trying.Hope you can immergin from what is appearing on the nabuur website ,the villages, the faciltators, the local representatives, all are very quite and while many have disapeared fall all.
But never to eccept to be a looser.
People like me are also struggling to put our school in order and alot is needed, friends have disapeared from us ,but we must go on and we must stay to continue serving humanity.
Have sent you a list so that you be trying like lam doing.
But what i know God is with us and he will one of these days come to our rescue.
Your
Christopher

Dear friends,
Have also noted that the good people who donated land may reclaim it back, what lam suggesting is that is possible, contact local people and the children some of them you are helping and start making some bricks.
Whatever small bricks a number may be,people will realise there is work being made ,then as you continue with other methods.
Thank you once again
Christopher
Thank you, Christopher!
Dear Christopher, thank you a lot for the long list of funding organizations and the fantastic idea of making bricks.
I agree with you that Nabuur has been very quiet, just a few villages still are alive.
Let's who are still alive work together!
Have a blessed weekend!
Kind regards,
Ildikó
