Creative Fundraising Ideas Needed!

Are you creative? Do you have lots of ideas? Then join us in coming up with a list of potential ideas that could be used for small scale fundraising that neighbours / local communities could get involved with to help build our school to completion.
It doesn't matter what your idea is - big, small or off the wall, let us know about it - we may just use it!

This is a very quick, simple task! All you need to do is let us know of any ideas you may have for local fundraising to help build out school!
Initially, we need to purchase the plots to start the build and we probably won't get the funding from an organisation for this as it's technically a set up cost. Let's see if we can fundraise successfully to help buy the land and to help Stephen register as an NGO!
Chrissie :-)
Welcome to Matopeni, Akarshan and thank you for taking ownership of this task!
I think this is going to be quite a simple task just bringing together as many ideas as we can - we'll decide on the feasibility later on, so don't worry about this aspect yet! :-)
Let me know if you need any further information to help complete this task.
Matopeni Neigbhours! Now is your chance to let us know what you think we could do fundraising wise - perhaps something in your own local community! Suggest away - the wackier the better!
Chrissie :-)
Hello,
I read that the people of Matopeni make crafts. Maybe they could use some of these to raffle off. Raffles are popular.
As for elsewhere, well.. I fell in love with Kenya after watching a movie filmed there. Somebody could rent a movie, which was filmed in Kenya and show it, either in schools, the town hall, etc. Charge small amount for tickets. Tell people proceeds go to project.
Hello again,
Here's a list of fun fundraising ideas from Oxfam. They use these for their organization, but they could be easily adapted for anything.

Hello,
Here's a really interesting way to raise money.
Affinity buttons. You know, the click to donate things. You place a button on the website, that refers to a vendor. There are many to choose from. Everytime someone clicks the advert, a small amount is dontated to ngo. I've used this whenever buying online. Below is weblink, all information is provided. Doesn't cost anything. Some can raise lots of money effortlessly! In the meantime, I'll locate donations in kind.

Hello,
Here's an interesting way to raise money. Chipin (http://www.chipin.com) It's a webservice that allows people to donate to favourite charity (Matopeni) by various ways. ie paypal and credit cards. If we don't have a website, we can create one free with this service. Then everybody can spread the word and hopefully donations will come. Nowadays, most of the transactions are electronic, there's no exchange of money. Many ngo's and charities use this to collect money, and are successful. If we are to succeed, we must try unconventional means. Even if we get small donations from this, it's a start. Is anybody knowledgable on IT to start it?
Dear Chrissie, Stephen and Neigbourghs,
it is just wonderful to see how much already has been done in this fantastic village!
Estelle you have great ideas. On Matopeni/Quarry website should be named all these possibilities to donate money you have written about.
I have only "live" expriences of fundraising. Such a way need a lot of active members in the local community.
I have a few ideas how to do:
1. Maybe go out with the businessplan and search for friend schools all around of the world? We have several exemple for it in Finland. The elder pupils go out and take job for a day and they give the money to their friend school in need of money. That way we could get electricity in an orphanage in Kisumu.
2. A couple of active members have organized several markets. ie. some members have baked bread and gave us to sale. we have a second hand shop, all who work there are volonteers, and everything what sales in the shop goes to the oprhanage.
3. I have seld a lot of "Save Africa's children" bracelets, they are really succe. OK, someone must to pay for them, but they are not very expensive. I have seld them for a higher price and the money has gone to children in Kenya.
4. Maybe it could be also possible with a local aid concert there all the artists participiate without salary and all the ticket prices go to the school.
Well all these are just some ideas. Actually it needs also serious donators who can donate bigger sums.
Greetings from Finland

Dear Stephen,
yes, I could use a lot Matopeni's businessplan and also Matopeni funding document. Where can I find them? Are they among shared documents? If not, can you please send me them per mail?
One more thing I think about, do the children at school also some practical subjects? Why I ask it is just an idea, if the children could make some small things for sale?
We have baught a lot of small souvenirs in Kisumu , taken them to Finland and sold them . It came not very much money but a bit. Just an idea.

Hello,
I found something good in the resource centre of Nabuur.
Give Meaning-online fundraising. (http://www.givemeaning.com) I'll add Matopeni project to it and see what happens.
I got it started, but I need 99 votes to get the fundraising going. I need your permission to add your emails, please. From what I see this is successful, and could help the project alot.
