Guessing that raising money may take some time for the solar panels I came up with the very inexpensive solution.
You need lots of clear plastic bottles and a long length of black plastic piping. Cut the bottom off the first plastic bottle. Insert the pipe through the bottle, so that you can push the bottle along the pipe.
Now cut the bottom off a second bottle and insert it onto the pipe so that the pouring end slides into the cot off bottom of the bottle you have already put on.
Now repeat this step until you have many bottles fitted over the pipe. Place the pipe with the bottles over it in a 'snake' in a place where it will catch the sun, ideally facing south, with one end raised above the over. (Imagine making lots of Z shapes, with the top and bottom squeezed together so the Z is very short in height.)
Make the Z's into a shape 2-3m wide and 1-2m high. Perhaps leaning against planks or couragatted iron sheets. So the top is higher than the bottom.
Fill the pipe with water.
Take the top end of the pipe and put it into the top of large container (maybe a plastic dustbin) and secure it. Put the other end which comes from the bottom of the bottles into the very bottom of the container.
Leave in the sun, which heats up the pipe. Water in the pipe rises and tips into the container. Cold water is sucked into the bottom (cold) end of the pipe as the hot water goes out the top. After a few hours the water in the container should be warm/hot.
Ron,
This is an insteresting experience that i must do in the course of the week.I think i have gotten your instruction well and incase i get stuck on the way i will ask for your help. However iam still doing your assignment and i will be through soon.
[quote]free treatment to matopen children
2008-05-19, Simiyu.J.Bramuel, Kayole-Soweto (Kenya)
Hi To All
Am happy to anounce that today we jointly hands with the members of matopen children to offer a free treatment to matopen children the one day free treetment camp at matopen school started at 10 am african time and ends at 4pm and it was so suceessfull we are hoping that if we can arrange for more resource we can do better and continuasly.we still hope that together with matopen and support from you volunteers we will to it again.we will sent photos on site eighter us or matopen we will share the report with matopen village.
matopen is one of the nabuur futured village at nabuur motel.
Mary,
The quote is true but the services were not that free as Bramuel claims we paid 50% of the total cost of Vaccination which was 360Ksh Arrow web Hospital paid 180 Ksh per child while the School with the support from its Sponsors paid the 180Ksh.But we were very happy for the assistance that Arrow web Hospital offered.Becouse other Hospitals were charging highly and given the kind of Family vulnerability in Matopeni they couldn't afforded to pay for that cost.My sincere gratitudes goes to all our friends and sponsors who come in to save the lives of needy children during the outbreak of Measles in Matopeni by donating towards the Vaccination and deworming them. The receipts of the money we paid to Arrow web Hospital is attached
Regards,
Stephen.
You must have a difficult time with the epidemics, sick children and the vaccination process.
How many of the children have been infected? How is their situation? I saw on the receipts that 134 children have been vaccinated. There are more than 200 children at school aren't? About 70 children haven't been vaccinated. What about them? Do they also wait for vaccination and more support are needed?
It is very good to here that these 134 children's lives could been saved.
Hi Ildiko,
We only managed to vaccinate 134 who were volunerable thirteen of them were badly infected and will continue geting treatment. However during the breakout of Measles before we could come in with Vaccination exercise,Parents who had money took their children to various Hospitals for Vaccination and the 134 and were poor that could not afford to pay for the exercise. But we already fixed the Burdget for vaccination and all the children are safe from both Worms and Measles.
All we are a little bit quiet in Matopeni right now. I am sorry for my silence, we have term end at my school and I have a lot of things to manage, but it will be soon over.
Stephen, how is the situation with the thirteen badly sick children? Do you need some help with management of their medical treatment and hospital costs?
How is the building now, is any work going on right now?
Everything seems fairly quiet. I can only assume that Stephen is throwing bricks like a man possesed and the rest of you, like me, are waiting to see the finished object!
Anyway I have been in contact with Givemeaning and updated the financial position. We are now just aiming for $700 for electrical gear and have $601 in the bag. I have asked them how to withdraw the funds and get the money to the school. I'll let you know as soon as I get word in.
Thank you Ron for asking Givemeaning! We hope that everything will be OK there. I think no new money will come in there so Stephen could withdraw the money as soon as possible. The prices just go up and the dollar (even if it is Canadian) seems to be weaker all the time against Kenyan shilling so we get less money if we wait for long time.
One more thing could you ask , Ron: if we could have use the project also for inventory and other equipment? In that case maybe we could wait. :-D
Matopeni Team,
I would like to inform you that already four classrooms have been finished and we are moving to the remaining three classrooms which are on the roofing level.See the attached picture.
Thanks alot for all your efforts that have brought us this far.I will update you as we proceed with the activity,
To all Neighbours,
We are still afew steps to the finishing line and i would like to invite allof you come up and reactivate your searching engines so that theremaining part can be acompleshed. We still need three more rooms namely,Teachers room,H/M's office and the eighth classroom after we successfully builded seven of them.
Hoping to hear from you all,
Stephen.
thank you for the fantastic pictures! It is so great to see that already four classrooms have been finished. The building really likes really a school! It is easy to imagine all the happy children in the classrooms.
But as you wrote, we still have a lot to do! We still need three room, equipment, inventory and a lot of other things.
Good progress! Seeing the painted doors and windows certainly makes things real.
A few questions:-
How many classrooms do you need to be finished before you can move the children over?
Is it safe to move them over and allow additional building? In other words will the new classroom and office be a safe distance away from the present ones?
What is the plan for water in the school? Is that part of the alreday funded lavatory block?
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I do not think our budget covers all the extra buildings! Are we going to complete the present work i.e., 4 + 3 classrooms and then plan Phase two of Matopeni school which is the other classroom, offices and if I may be so bold a little medical room? (We had that in our master plan way back in the distant past and I would like to keep it in if we can.)
In any event we all need to address the answers you give and start thinking about, and funding, Phase 2.
