Provide Mosquito Nets to 360 Orphaned Children in Mawoito
Status:

Step:
2
This task is intended to combat the high rate of malaria among the orphaned children in the community of Mawoito. Therefore if provided with nets, it will help in combating the spread of malaria in the community. Malaria is currently the most killer disease in the community of Mawoito. It poses a significant threat among the children - especially the orphaned children who lack parental care.

Tonny - I suggest you tell people HOW they can help - the only thing I ever see on nabuur is people sending each other the same old organizations who have RUN OUT of nets! So how else can we help?? We need to try to motivate people in raising money at their school, church, place of work with a donation can/basket/bucket - some kind of poster/picture with a "Save a life - contribute to a Mosquito net". Calling all artists - it will probably just take downloading a picture from one of the websites that raises money for nets, then it can also be used by dozens of other villages - surely each neighbor in the West and Europe can raise money for 10-15 nets. These nets, bought in bulk are only $7.50.. Any volunteers? This is a VERY IMPORTANT, life saving project. Thank you.

Ginger :)
Hi all, thanks to Ginger for her contribution in terms of knowledge. We request any volunteer who can help us with at least 10-15 nets because each net costs $7.5. We will be happy to receive your donation as we try to save lives of thousands of lives of African children here in mawoito village, Uganda.
Your help towards this noble cause of saving lives of orphaned children is highly welcome.
We value your donation and we will be happy to receiving your donation and this will add a smile to the vulnerable children in Mawoito village.
Thanks
Tonny
Hi Tonny;
Could you please let us know where to send a donation? Thanks!
Cathy.
Hi all, i want to make some correction about the cost of a mosquito nets. A net costs $7.5 not 7.50as Ginger had said in her earlier post.
Its our prayer that you contribute towards this noble cause of helping the orphaned children.
Tonny
Hi,
I'm new to the group. I was searching the internet for sources to purchase the netting. I ran across the website of a non profit organization that indicated they got the treated mosquito nets from a source for only $5.00. The source is World Swim Against Malaria. Basically swimmers get individuals to pledge money for the them. All of the funds donated go to purchase nets. How about contacting the source to see if they would donate or sell us the nets for $5.00. The website is http://www.worldswimformalaria.com Also, according to the map on the website, the organization is already providing nets and educational services in your area so delivery of the nets should not be a problem. Do we have someone in the group who could write a simple letter about the orphaned children and the Mawoito village? Pam
Hi pamela, thanks for your contact, i have contacted the organization you told me about and am waiting for their reply. However, we will be happy if you helped us to contact them since your near them.
Donate a net and save thousands of lives from malaria.
Your contributions are highly welcome towards this noble cause.
Tony
Hi,
I'll be happy to contact the source. Is it possible for someone to give me a bit more info about our group. I intend to ask for the nets to cover our immediate short term goal and a grant to assist us until we can purchase the equipment and supplies to setup a small organization to make the mosquito nets for those in need. Hopefully we will be able to earn sufficient funding to possibly employ a few individuals to make the nets for us. I need information or phamplets which will allow me to be responsive to any questions that may be asked. I've never written a grant request before. I intend to keep it simple by answering the who, what, when, where, and how questions. For example, (1) Who we are why we chose to accomplish this task. (2) What are our short term and long term goals? What do we need to accomplish our goal, both short term and long term. (3) When - What is the time frame that we have established to meet or exceed both our short long term goals. (4) Where will we be operating - will our support be limited to our village or do we intend to expand and assist others in need in the area. (5) How do we intend to track and measure our progress. How will our long term goals allow us to become self-sufficient and able to provide assistance to those in need on a long term basis. Finally but not least, if the company representative offers to help us, where should I tell the representative to send the nets and/or money. I need a specific address and point of contact please.
I know i'm asking a lot of questions. Please bear in mind that my area of expertise is writing Request For Proposals for companies to sell their products and services to large companies and Government organizations. I'm a buyer and contract negotiator by trade. Previously, I would evaluate the proposals to determine who was awarded the contract. This time someone else will be evaluating our information to determine if they will help us. With your help I feel confident that we will be successful. Thanks Pam
Pamela Just want to agree with Tonny - the most helpful we can be to the villages is to make the contacts for them. Another suggestion came in from Raul. Can the villagers buy the mosquito netting and sew their own for much cheaper? Tonny -is there a local manufacturer? Can you ask the man where you buy the cloth for school uniforms??? This kind of info we cannot find for you.

Ginger :)
Hi Ginger, thanks for your reply about the issue of mosquito nets and school uniforms.
On the issue of school uniforms, we have some body in Jinja town where we can purchase the materials for school uniforms and i can do it in case you need this type of information please.
However, do you need to find out the prices for the school uniforms please i can do that and then send you the information.
Please am ready to avail you with all the above information and i will go to the local manufacturer and find out the costs and then forward the to you for your perusal together with Raul.
Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.
Tonny
On today's Nabuur, Eddy of Kisozi just received mosquito nets that cost only $2.50 each - my suggestion is that Tonny contact him right away to find out where he bought them for so cheap. We were paying $7.50 and at $2.50 we could have covered the whole village with the last donation...
Also - Tonny really has to tell us how many he needs - one net can cover 2-3 children in a house - so we may only need 50 nets urgently and we have 30 nets being contributed (at the $2.50 price)

Ginger :)
Hi all, thanks for your information and its good for all the possibilities you are coming up with and we hope that this will push us further.
We need 135 nets so as to cover up all the number of children since the 15 are staying in their different homes and can share one net for purposes of cost effectiveness.
However, i will get in touch with Eddy and find out where he got those nets at 2.5.
But i want to state it clearly that the nets we bought earlier at 7.5 are treated mosquito nets. I think the ones that Eddy got may not be treated nets but i will get the details please and i will let you know.
Secondly, I contacted the manufacturer on the issue of school uniform materials.
He gave the following figure for each material.
1. Uniforms for girls each=$3.0x200=$600
2. Uniforms for boys both the shirt and a short=$4.5x160=$720
Total cost for school uniform materials being =$1320
Thanks
Tonny
Those nets were definitely nets that were treated. We checked those nets long ago and made a good deal long time ago. Tonny, I am sure you can get the same good deal by bargaining.
Let me tell you my neighbor, if you want to be assisted in this world, it is better to consult from your neighbor but not to criticized just like you thought of that. In facth i bought these nets in large quantity and i have the right to bargain and even you too can do that.
Secondly, these are treated nets of which even my local authorities in my village approved that they are the treated nets for the children of HAU.
The price for each net was 4500=@ and you can calculate the whole costs for these nets i.e. 240 nets in total.
Eddy.
Hi all,
I have been closely following this discussion, and very sure that Eddy is right. I have come across such a place in Jinja where nets can be sold at that price, one must have a good deal of bargaining language to come to that.
I suggest that Tonny communicates with Eddy to establish a common ground where they can share those ideas.
Thanks
Moses

Dear neighbors,
This morning I got a call from Tonny Mulamba form Mawoito village inquiring from me where I bought those nets that I issued them to our beneficiaries this week and I directed him where they can be found or available . Good enough he knows that place very well. The seller is called Mawaizi, his phone number is +256 701 039 752 from Jinja.Another issues of concern is that, if any one wants to buy uniforms at the cheaper prices you can go to the main street in Jinja, opposite Busoga FM.
I am going to be available always to help those in need of any information.Active as i am and as we all desereve to be in the network.
Thanks,
