Providing improved piglets to orphaned families
Status:

Time needed:
Two weeks or more
Step:
3
The community wishes to get improved piglets and these can help them in ensuring that they earn income which in turn can help in provision of domestic needs like school uniforms for the children, access medical care, scholastic materials and among other things. The improved piglets after delivery can be passed on to other community members since they produce twice a year.

Is it possible for this village to buy 3 sewing machines, like in Kyomya? I believe they were about - $60-75 each - I am not sure where this village is located and what the costs might be. In exchange for using them, the tailors will make the uniforms each year.
Also, if they are near a large town/small city with a newspaper with good circulation, perhaps they could get an article written to get wealthier local people to donate goods - maybe second hand sewing machines? We're going to try this in the Jinja newspaper for Kyomya.

Halo!
AM writing to reply to the caption. We have a project that supports the disadvantaged in provision of uniforms, medical care, school fees and a feeding program. We are currently running out of funds and can no longer continue supporting the 30 children in the program. We have a proposal for the same project ready so that we can solicit for funds. We are appealing if the children we have can access such support from neighbors alongside any sustainable support for our project. Moreso, if there is any neighbor willing to share with us on our project, we will greatly appreciate and be thankful.
Thanking you in advance

YES ITS POSSIBLE AND THIS COULD SAVE ON THE COSTS OF PROVIDING THE SCHOOL UNIFORMS TO THESE CHILDREN. THIS IS ONE OF THE KEY REASONS WHY SOME CHILDREN PERFORM POORLY WHILE IN SCHOOLS BECAUSE THEY ARE ALWAYS CHASED OUT OF CLASS FOR LACK OF SCHOOL UNIFORMS. SO IF THIS NEED IS MET, IT WOULD REALLY HELP THE NEEDY CHILDREN SO MUCH.
HOPE TO HEAR FORM YOU SOON.

Tonny and James, I quickly read over your budget, and like too many villages you need WAY too much money for anyone to raise during this Depression. It was hard Before. It is truly impossible now. It is the time that each village, with God's help, must help themselves.
Break your money making ideas down into projects:
1) uniforms - how many do you need? how many tailors are there? - are they making money themselves, or do they need a machine to set up a business? We can raise money for the machines - and the tailors in exchange, must make the uniforms for all the newcomers. this has been very successful in Kyomya.
2)Families have to start new/successful agricultural businesses - especially the women. Drip vegetable gardens are very good money makers - and I have started a test project in Wakitaka. We will know more when the first crops come in in a few months.
3) I am trying to start "ONE GOAT PER CHILD".In Kyomya we estimate $10 per child per semester, or $30 per year; we have 160 orphans - that's almost $5,000 USD!!!! and it has become impossible to raise it. So, now I am trying to get funding so that each child entering school will get a goat or a pig (pigs are much better money makers, but I know the Muslim children can't raise them) and raise it for the year - female, so it will give birth. At the end of the year, the child will sell the older goat for her/his school fees for the coming year. I envision that for the very first year, each child will require $100 - for his animal: $35, back pack, and papers and pencils; perhaps $10 for the teacher - they have 50 in class - $500 per year is probably not enough, but it equals $55 per month.
Yes James, these ARE very good ideas that I have been working on for a year - and I don't want you to get your hopes up!!! I have started with a pilot program, but it will take a good year to 18 months to prove that it works. From there I can apply for funding. So - let's begin with a proposal - just let me know how many sewing machines and material are required. And it IS a business and I think that even if the seamstress is your best friend, we need to get a contract from him. If he wants to buy back the machine just for his/her own use - he must pay the cost for us to buy a new one. And, it is quite likely that in 2-3 years, we could Pay him for making the uniforms. All these numbers must be figured out by you, and I will help in any way possible. It is nice to hear from you again, and God be with you and the children.

HI GINGER, YOU REALLY HAVE VERY BRIGHT IDEAS. FOR MAWOITO PROJECT, WE HAVE A SEWING MACHINE FOR THE PROJECT AND WHAT WE NEED IS TO BUY MATERIALS AND MAKE THE UNIFORMS FOR THE CHILDREN. THAT IS WHAT IS REQUIRED AND ONLY TO PAY FOR THE PERSON WHO IS DOING THE WORK.
HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU GINGER.
TONNY.

Tonny - I am sorry that I have not responded earlier - I only see what's new on my message list or if you write me a personal letter. Do you have a website or can I get a little more background? how many children are in your school if 350 are orphans who need a uniform? I can't imagine the cost of the material being more than 2-3 dollars if purchase in bulk - but that is $1,000, which I am totally unable to provide, or raise at this time. If you have to make so many uniforms, you will need more than one person doing the work - and definitely more than one sewing machine. My idea was to buy 3 sewing machines - $65 each to give to three new tailors so they could in the future have a way to make a living - IN EXCHANGE they will make the uniforms free, for the next 2-3 years. Are these children already in a school that you have to make a particular style of uniform? If so, you will need to get the pattern. this is a much bigger project than I imagined.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Regards,
Ginger

Your idea is excellent Virginia,
This community need to go into Income generating Activities for sustainability. When a community stands to help, it must bear in mind that Financial Aid must not be continuous unless otherwise. So every community must first think of Income generating Activities as a core issue before they finally start reaching out to the Needy. It is a very good thing to help but you should have focus for continuity.
Thanks.

thank for reading this letter and think you will do those word in the letter.
And thanks for your help
Hi, Mawoito project has thought of provision of improved piglets as a way that can up lift the standards of living for the village. This is because of the fact that a pig produces thrice a year and a family can be able to sell off the off sprigs to other people hence enabling that particular family improve on the incomes and the orphaned children can be able to access school uniforms and scholastic materials.we therefore suggest that if there are people whop can help provide the village with 20 pairs of improved piglets, this can help in alleviating the poverty levels in mawoito village among orphaned families.
The families that will benefit first will pass on the off springs to other needy families and the system will continue.
Tonny
Tonny - I suggest you tell people on nabuur how much piglets cost - to buy AND to feed vs the cost of goats and how little They eat. I think you'll find a big difference. Again, i suggest that you speak with Emma in Wakitaka - he has really done his homework in this area.

I found Emma's budget for goats - including transport (yours might be different cost) vaccines, insemination and goat cakes - and each goat will cost only $55 - so you could start with 6 goats for $215. Anyone care to match my first donation to buy one goat? Sorry this does not come across in columns - just won't work - but i think you can get the idea.
No. Item Quantity Unit Cost(Ushs) Total cost(Ushs) Total cost(USD)
