This is a really good task!

Just a thought in the organisation of the event - what accommodation would be available?

An idea might be that something could be arranged through a travel agency or airline to provide a 'Moung Russey Ethical Marathon' all round travel ticket with the cost of air travel, a night's accommodation on arrival and prior to leaving in Phnom Penh, and 3 nights in Moung Russey or nearby, with transport to the event and entry fee ... something like that.

Would villagers from Moung Russey and nearby be interested in earning a little extra money by accommodating people coming to the event??

Thank you for your participant with Moung Russey Community, and interst in Marathonevent. Exactly this topic is purpose by our Niehgbor for fund raising to build the training center but it not possible to develo because there are many contrain with government permision. We would like change to promote women handicraft product for selling for income but still no answer from our nieghbors.

I hope you can help us to find other way for fund raising to reach training center building.

I think the selling of handicrafts is a great idea.

Is it possible for us to build a website for online sales? You can change the project into a online website for the community handicrafts. I think this is more feasible for the NABUUR volunteers to work on.

Let me know if this can be one of our projects.

What we need from you is the following:
1) Pictures of the handicrafts.
2) Pricing in USD, please consider freight charges and other expenses.
3) Description of the handicrafts. The more cultural it is the better..like descriptions of the materials used for these handicrafts.

Let me know, I am getting excited with this project!

There are several NGOs who buy and market crafts. I think that Oxfam is one but there are several others.

Also, high quality crafts can be marketed at the tourist hotels, etc as well at the airport shops. This would be very involved but who knows.

Some countries, Mexico and India I know personally, have marketing systems for crafts.

Selling on a website has its place but someone must figure out how to get the hits. That is not easy as I have learned personally.

It's great coversation on handicraft for women and youth project here. I think it difficult for Cambodia for sale online product in both send and get money. Oh I got three CD from Ken? sent to me?, because I don't see the name. I saw one e-mail of Artventure.org they interest with Cambodian Youth Development Project and I sent him with brief of development training center for art training to youth drop school and handicraft for young women migrant. I still not yet get the reply, and we need some fund raising to initaite project implement related to organic farm training.

I hope all friend can discus on way to improvement.

Yes, I mailed you the dvds. Sorry about that as I only put my Zipcode [postal zone] on the envelope. I can get my mail with only that on the envelope.

You wrote about fund raising to start organic farming. You do not need any funds to do that. The famers may have to get some green manure/cover crop seed but these might be free from the government.

To start organic farming, find a farmer in the village who wants to reduce his cost and increase his profits and tell him what I have sent to you about building a permanent bed.

Build a Demonstration Bed

Healthy soil produces healthy plants, with high yields, to have healthy people and prevents most disease, pest, weed and erosion problems.

This bed will demonstrate to people that this really works.
1. Mark off a bed 2 meters wide and 5 meters long. Can be any width or length.
2. Do not dig or till the bed. Cut down any weeds, etc and leave on top of the soil.
3. Plant a green manure/cover crop [seed are available in every country] in the bed. Irrigate using a drip line[s] if it is the dry season. I will tell you how to make the dripline out of poly tubing and a plastic pail. Dripline is 100 feet and irrigates one row of vegetables using 40 liters of water every other day. Cost in Nicaragua was US$3. Can be moved to another row of vegetables.
4. Let the gm/cc grow until time to plant a food crop. Cut the gm/cc down level with the soil, so it dies, and leave it on top of the soil.
5. Open up rows [4?] in which to plant a crop [maize?] or clear small areas [6 inches round] to plant agusi or squash, etc.
6. Harvest. Leave plants on top of the soil.
7. Do not dig or till.

Another way is to plant maize and when it is 300 to 400 cm tall, plant Mucuna [or other gm/cc] between the maize plants. When the maize is harvested, leave the stalks standing. The Mucuna will grow and climb up the maize stalks and cover the ground. When it is time to plant the next crop, cut the Mucuna off at the ground and leave on the soil. Plant the next crop in the Mucuna.

This demonstration bed will prove to everybody that this works. No hoeing, no digging, no tilling!

On land that is sloping, it is much more involved. I have visited a farm on land with a 73º slope. That is steep. No erosion. Beds were six years old.

I understand, if the online selling is not doable. Here in my country the websites are doing well, maybe because of available cheap ICT. As for the payment system, the possibilities are wide- western union and paypal are examples.

Nonetheless, I respect your decision not to entertain any online selling.

Thank you Ken for your comment with fund raising project to launch organic farm here. I agree to start project with some families who interest to work with available source they have. Exectly we can do as saple with villagers in village and follow up properly, but what is life of project is spreading knowledge and share learning practice to other group of famer. CYDC want to take model training and pass the group farmer production that why we need funding to operate the project in community. The activity is related to 3 year plan that facilitate by Dr. Larry to provide training to youth group and aplly the real practice in their own field.

I would like much appriciate to Sukha which found good news for handicraft in her country that using wide systyem on Credit Union. I hope you can lead me to discuse this project with nieghbors to reach project implement. Please onme and share initiat idea for community here.
