Finding Volunteer / Volunteer organisations that can help in setting up and organising the centre

Status: Finished

We need to get Regular volunteers from within and outside Moung Russey that can come in Moung Russey to help the centre start on the right path.
These volunteers can come from already established Volunteer organisations.
Individual Volunteers can be in the following categories:
-Those who have Retired from active work
-Students in their vacations or this volunteer experiance could be part of their studies in a related work
-This could also apply to those who are working but they are willing to get some time off to participate in this project.
-And any willing individual who able to participate in the centre.

Dear friends,
Greetings. We express our solidarity to your mission. If you feel, I can be of some help to you. Please write me what exactly, you need to start?

However, my agenda:

Orphancare and family reiniegration

” deinstitutionalization”-The main goal of the pilot project is to reintegrate children from institutional homes (mainly from Orphanages) in to families, along in the line of UNCRC. How can we reach to the goal? Do you have any idea of such intervention? or knew any such orphan Reintegration program ? Advice required to formulate Project Note.” rights of a child first- a new global challenge!

Dear Mainuddin Ahmed and all neighbours,

I do not think that your post is totally relevant to the needs of the community in Moung Russey. Perhaps others will disagree but I believe we should continue to focus our efforts towards Kimsorn's original mission to set up a youth training centre by raising funds/ finding companies who will provide funds.
This is my opinion.

Best wishes,

Jenny

I Jenny
It is good to hear from you again
I agree with you that it is important to focus on Kimsorn's Mission. My advice to Ahmed is to help us achieve its objective or to suggest measures oh how make it better.

Ahmed could also register the Orphanage project with Nabuur.

Jenny do you have plans to recieve crafts to be used in the triathlon event

Hi Ronald and all neighbours,

I have looked into importing Cambodian goods into Australia and as far as I can see, there will be no problem and no duty to pay if the value of the goods totals less than $1000AU (approx $775US). I have attached a sheet with my findings on it with regard to Australian import laws. If Kimsorn is to send anything to me, I strongly advise him to read these guidelines carefully as certain items are restricted eg wood.

Therefore I will be happy for Kimsorn to send me a package of locally-made crafts, which I will endeavour to sell, and also to give as prizes for the triathlon event I plan to organise for next February. I would suggest that the products the community could make are bookmarks/ notebooks of handmade paper, lightweight scarves/ handkerchiefs of silk/cotton, cushions covers, tablecloths, table runners, coasters, place mats, ash trays, bowls/plates/cups, jewllery (simple designs are best in Australia), toys, picture frames, sarongs. Also small packs of local spices?

All the money raised from the sale of the crafts will be used for the youth training centre. If this is successful, I will be happy to continue selling Cambodian crafts on behalf of the community in the future. I will forward my address to Kimsorn separately.

Best wishes,

Jenny

Hi everyone,

I am new to this village, and hopefully I can help a little.

I think that Jenny has come up with a wonderfully practical way of raising funds here in Australia! I am an importer of handcrafts, so I can legally import handcrafts and can also sell them. I already sell some goods with proceeds going to other charities, so importing of handcrafts from Moung Russey would add to our stock of charity items for sale! Selling handcrafts in Australia (over the medium to long term) would provide a slow but steady flow of funds from our handcraft business as it is very small and part time market business, run by my son who goes to school, as a part time job. However, I am sure that we can also use the handcrafts in fundraising events, as was also suggested by Jenny, and maybe the with the funds Jenny raises combined with ours, we can provide some steady funding from Australia.

Ronald and Kimsorn, I think that the Moung Russey handcrafts need to be purchased by us at wholesale prices - the retail price in Cambodia is probably a good enough wholesale price for Australia. That way, the village gets the Cambodian price for the handcrafts first, and then gets a bonus profit on them at a later date! And it ensures that the people in the village do not lose out, which I am mindful of.
I would not be able to spend a great deal each time I buy some handcrafts, but would pay for the handcrafts and the freight each time.

Therefore, if the village are agreeable to this proposition, could i request Kimsorn to email me some pictures and prices? then I will choose and buy some items.

Also, how do you want the money sent, by Western Union?
Or do you have Paypal?
Or do you prefer TT transfer (which is a bit more expensive)?

I am also not sure about your charity status. Does the project have a charity registration number? If so, it would help if you could provide it.

finally, does the project have any affiliation with an international organisation? Sometimes this can help in the transfer of money via donation.

Briefly, another thing, I think that Mainuddin is highly qualified in the child rights area, and has some very valuable and interesting insights and thus is an important person to have on this project.
Mainuddin, perhaps, (as I note that the issue is about seeking the help of volunteer organisations not just in funding but in the setting up and organising of the centre) you might be able to contribute some of your ideas and share your knowledge into the organising of the centre?
Kind regards
Lynley

Hi Everybody
Lynley You are much welcome to this village at the time as this. kimsorn has given me some details on the progress. He is hospitalised and I pray that he would be well. I welcome your idea of buying crafts at a wholesale basis. Which could also help raise funds for the village. I will again get to Kimsorn through E mail to see if he is agreeable to this and if he can send you some photos.
Here is Kimsorn's Email to Neighbors: Registration is about legalising the Training centre with the authorities.

Hello Neighbours,

I was sorry to read that Kimsorn has been unwell, but I am glad he is recovering now and I pass my best wishes to him and his family.

In the past few days, I have contacted a number of charitable organisations who provide funding for projects in developing countries. Some have come back to me and said no, sorry they can't help us, but one - the Marist Mission Centre in Australia have given detailed instructions of how to submit a proposal. See:

http://www.maristmissions.com/pages/policy.htm

Although it says they do not usually fund building construction, it does seem like all the other notes on their website seem applicable to us. I believe Kimsorn has a project proposal ready, and I would be happy to edit this to make it fit the model provided by the Marist Mission Centre if someone would forward it to me.

On another note, Lynley has agreed to help with my fundraising event in Sydney in February which is great. I hope others will also be inspired to hold their own events if this is succesful!

Best wishes to you all,

Jenny

Great to see so much progress has been made with regard to the distribution of crafts. I will look into whether similar goods could also be sent to Canada, I think they would do quite well here too. Lynly, do you have any contacts in Canada? There are a number of Ten Thousand Villages stores in my area, I could see if they would be willing to sell the goods.
Best of luck, Carrie

I just emailed a number of fair trade stores here in Canada to see whether they would be interested. I'll let everyone know once I hear something. Carrie

Hi neighbours,

I have a market stall confirmed in Sydney - I think I am going to hold it on 17th December just before christmas - the perfect time to target christmas shoppers. If there is any way the crafts (anything!) from Moung Russey can get to me by then, I will try my best to sell them!

The other products I will be selling are from a not-for-profit fairtrade company dealing in Peruvian handicrafts called Ethica. I suggest in the future we could look into making a good website like theirs to sell crafts made in Moung Russey. Their site is www.ethica.com.au

Best wishes,

Jenny
