Help secure a mobile phone to minimize costs

Kimsorn must pay $1/hr to use the Internet. His transportation cost from his village to Battambang province two ways is $5. He has tried to make himself available for regular communication at least 3x per week. Kimsorn has been exploring alternative options to reduce his travel time and most importantly the associated costs.

There is a new mobile phone company called Metfone which provides mobile Internet access by connecting a mobile phone to a computer. Kimsorn has two laptops donated by Dr. Larry from the USA in 2007. These have the capability to connect to the Internet, but his mobile phone cannot because it has no internal modem. Kimsorn believes that this will be a feasible solution if he can secure the right phone.

Kimsorn works as a volunteer and does not receive any wages for his work. He hopes that Nabuur volunteers can assist him with securing a mobile phone with an internal modem that he can connect to his laptop and use in his local area. He believes that this will help him continue regular communication and provide regular updates regarding the progress in his village. He has checked with the local phone shop and found the cost to be between $170-$200 depending on the brand of the phone.
