Worldschool are linking groups of school students with projects on Nabuur. Through assignments, they learn about real-life issues in developing countries and do research to find solutions.
A group of students from Gymnasium Beekvliet school in Sint Michielsgestel, Holland have selected Omiito for their assignment.
They are represented on Nabuur by Kim Luiken and Anne Lutters.
Kim and Anne, please use this task to discuss anything related to your assignment, to ask questions, and to report on progress.

You are of course very welcome to join in with other tasks as well if you wish.
Initially, this discussion was split across two other tasks, but it seemed simpler to bring everything together into one place. I have copied the previous posts below for information.

Dear Neighbours, Stella Odaet & Vishal Sharma
Our names are Kim Luiken and Anne Lutters and we represent a group of students from the school ‘Gymnasium Beekvliet’ in Sint Michielsgestel, Holland that will be working for several hours during the next six months on your project. Our school is cooperating with NABUUR to do assignments for some NABUUR Villages. Our assignment will be to set up a tourist plan for your village. We have chosen for your project because we are interested in tourism and because we would like to assist you with your plans. Maybe we can contribute in exchanging information that is necessary in achieving a workable plan.
We went through all the discussions and resources. Now we would like to ask you the following questions about the project:
- What in your opinion can the people of Omiito do themselves to build up a tourist plan?
- What are the touristic assets of Omiito and its surroundings?
- Are the inhabitants of your village able and willing to work in the tourist business?
We are looking forward to collaborate with you and we hope that one of you will be able to answer our questions soon.
Thank you very much.
Warm regards,
Kim Luiken & Anne Lutters

Hi Kim and Anne
Welcome! I am very pleased that you have chosen Omiito for your school project.
I am the new facilitator of Omiito - I have taken over from Vishal. Stella and I are in the process of updating the tasks so that they match the current needs of the people in Omiito.
The initial planning work has been done and the community is now ready to welcome tourists and volunteers. To begin with, the main focus will be on finding them through partnerships with tourism/volunteer organisations and also through other methods of publicity. I hpoe to udpate the tasks on the site sometime in the next week or so, once I have agreed everything with Stella.
There is a lot of background information on the village pages, also at http://www.12visitme.com/visitme/show/volunteer-in-community-based-touri...
When Stella is next online, I hope she will be able to give us all more information on the current situation and the best ways in which you can help.
Would you prefer to do something that you can work on independently as a group within your school, posting to the Nabuur site when you have questions and reporting progress every few weeks? Or would you prefer to be actively involved on Nabuur, becoming a regular part of the discussions on here?
There will definitely be something you can do - we just need to make sure that it matches with the current needs of the community and with your interest too.

Hello Kim and Anne. Thank you for your interest to work with us.
-some time June 2008, we did a commnunity/youth capacity assessment that could form a basis of coming up aith a business plan. these are posted on the Omiito News bulletin and project room section.
-With regard to the tourist assets. Omiito and its surroundings has got a wealth of rocks, cultural & historical sites etc. Some of these are posted in the gallery as you must have noticed. Just in case I am posting this site for additional information http://www.12visitme.com/visitme/show/volunteer-in-community-based-touri...
-Yes, the community is willing to work in the tourism business. I hope this answers your concerns. Feel free to ask questions.
Thank you for being patient with me . With kind regards, Stella

Dear Kim & Anne, as we await to hear from you;
Like I said, the capacity assessment documentation could be a basis for drawing up a tourism plan. However-first, please: 1) let us know how you would love to operate ie whether independently or under nabuur? 2) what kind of tourism plan are you intrested in drawing-sole (Programme) or mini (component of the tourism programme)?. We look forward to hearing from you. With kind regards, Thank you, Stella
