Write a Funding proposal and outline for youth centre

Status: In progress
Step:
3

In order to get equipment from willing donators it is useful to have a outline of the project its goals and a budget estimate. This will help organizations to assess whether the Youth Center is something they can or would help with.

We are seeking help from neighbors who have had experience writing these sorts of proposals. However, we would greatly appreciate anyone how has a good idea to add.

Hi All,

The overhead projector that will be needed is for educational purpose as we have different types of overhead projectors. We are thinking about reaching the wider community of Oyoko and extending this developmental goal to the whole community.

Hi,
Is it ok if the projector uses transparencies? Do they have the ability to photocopy info onto overhead transparencies?

If not then perhaps we should be thinking about a laptop computer and a data projector.

Hi April,

I think you suggestion would be the ideal solution as they do not have photocopy to do this transparency sheets. I am little novice when it come to technology.

Hi,
I have seen overhead projectors on ebay for under $100. I am sure that with the right campaigning we could source the funds from inside ghana itself.

I have done a bit more research on the data projector and the bulbs for them are VERY expensive to replace. It would be ALOT cheaper to get an overhead projector and you can get a bubblejet printers that will copy to transperacies. OR they can just write on the transperacies with pen.

It seems that the Ghana govt has established a anti aids campaign is it possible to get them to come and speak to the youth of Oyoko? It's not much but it is a start, and they might be able to provide posters and education sessions etc.
Here is the link.

Also who is the local member of parliament for the region? We should really try and keep all of the funding etc local, and teach the community of Oyoko that they can do it without overseas aide. Also do any of the computers have DVD players in them? And are they networked?
Bc all you need is a dvd player in one computer then you can stream the images to all other computers. That would be cheap and fairly easy to do.

Hi April,

The culture of the people of Oyoko has always been to seek neighbours help to start a project and the community take it fro there. That is what we did with computer lad project.

In Ghana, to get the help from goverment officials in any project, you need to initiate it first. This what we as a community have been trying to do. We need to get those materials/equipment on the ground first and we can go to them for their help else they will not listen as they will not initiate such a project.

The computers at the lab are all networked but we can use the computer lab as the youth advisory centre. None of them has dvd in it. They are all Pentium II withn about 3/4 pentium III.

With regards to the projector any one that will help to facilitate learning will be okay for the centre. As i said am not expert when it comes to technology so am fine with any form of advice you will give.

We will be using all the agencies we have in the local community to help this cause ..i.e planned parenthoood, Ghana Aids Commission, Ghana Education Service and all other relevant bodies.

Hi All,

We are pleading to our neighbours who helped us in the past to put their hands on deck as we try to take this village to the next level.

Our next project which focus on youth and personal development aimed at directing the youth of Oyoko village to road which will help them to see light at the end of the tunnel.

This is what has eluded them in the past but the Youth Centre which will have resources will help address this problem to make the youth productive and sustainaable.

Even though the community have what it take to lead on this they will need initial push which is what we are asking our neighbours to help.

Whatever our neighbours would be able to contribute to resource the centre will be much appreciated.

Hello Everyone

I see you are looking for equipment such as a tv, overhead projector, whiteboards, and dvd player. Green Standards in Canada and the UK through the Green Standards Charitable Trust should be able to provide this type of equipment, free of charge, but shipping would have to be arranged. They collect equipment from business and then donate it to charitable causes such as this. You just have to submit a 'wishlist' of items and provide some background information to them. It may take a bit of time to get everything together, but it may be worth sending them a request. Any items that may have been used in an office and/or business can be requested. I have only dealt with the one in Canada and they have agreed to help villages on Nabuur, but the UK may be easier for shipping. The website is www.greenstandards.com. The Canadian contact is Liew Chase and the email is charity@greenstandards.com. Info for the UK office should be on the website.

I hope this helps.

Hi All,

I am still in touch with Green Standard. Even though they come not come out to outline what they could do to support our course their Project Team are studying are site and our project to ascertain what we are doing and where they could fit in. The lead person is on annual leave but and he is not back until 1st week of August.

Meanwhile we have to cast our net wide and we may lucky to get some sort of support as there are many out there who are interested in project like what we are undertaken to support.

Is there any more information that I could put up on the website? Or perhaps we could write s document that covers everything already here so it could be added as an attaachment to any other requests?
