Hi everyone- great to see that this Village is now up and running! Looking forward to seeing how we can get this eco-tourism project up and running. By way of intro, I'm Carolyn, I live in Sydney Australia and I manage a state- wide program on transfusion medicine in the state of NSW. Hello

I think one of the tasks should be research trekking clubs around the world besides trekking agencies in ktm, maybe both tasks could be combined as one task - what do you think?

Hi everyone,

There is a village Omiito in Uganda that I work with, they want to establish community based tourism - maybe you could have a look and see if you can get something there - we have many resources on ecotourism. Besides, maybe our discussions could be of help for you too.

Best,
Sonja

Hi, I am another newby here. I'm all a bit confused by the website at the moment but trying to find my way around, but this project for developing tourism in Nepal does sound very interesting. I would like to help where possible so could someone please point me in the write direction?

I should probably introduce myself as well. I currently live in London but am about to embark on a year long round the world backpacking trek. I will update my profile soon but am at work at the minute so probably shouldn't be spending too long on here-oops! Anyway, any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Oliver-we'd like to wish you a very warm welcome to the Sankhuwasabha village. Right now we are in the process of defining the project here and all that needs to be done. You'll see two tasks posted in the project room at the moment-right now we are working on establishing a list of volunteer organizations that work in Nepal and also trekking agencies that have treks in Nepal.

Tejanath, our local representative is traveling into Kathmandu and will be doing some research while he's there including collecting brochures, business cards and other information that might be helpful. It's great to have another trekker on board!

Tejanath hopes that the website he is working on www.makaluaruntreks.com will be a good means to advertise the local area and promote tourism in the region.

In terms of the Nabuur site-each project is set up as a "village." Each village has a local representative who posted a project that their local community wants to work on. There is also a facilitator to help manage the project and move it forward here online by working with the local representative to define specific tasks. If you have specific questions about how to use or navigate the site, you can send me a message or post here and I'll be more than happy to help you.

Warm regards and welcome!

Hello Arun-welcome to Nabuur and the Sankhuwasabha village!

On Nabuur, each project is broken up into a separate "village." Each village has a local representative and a facilitatr as well as a group of volunteers that works to tackle the issue at hand. In the project room of each village, you will find specific tasks that need to be worked on. You are welcome to offer your suggestions, input and/or work on any of the tasks listed. If you have specific questions about tasks, you can ask the local representative or facilitator.

Please feel free to email me if you have additional questions and again, welcome to Nabuur and to our village.

Warm Regards-

Hi Jennifer

Thanks very much for your welcome. In terms of volunteer organisations that work in Nepal, I am aware of a charity called VSO (Voluntary Services Overseas-vso.org.uk) that do work in the country. I hope this is some help.

Hi,
My name is Barry and I worked on the earlier ecotourism project for Mbirikani in Kenya with Sonja that she refers to above.
There is a lot of general ecotourism stats and info on Mbirikani. Take what can be of use.
Regards and best of luck to you.

Hi everybody,
I am new in this village and was wondering if I could help.
I think creating a website is a good way to promote tourism, maybe I can help thinking about the contents of the website from a backpackers perspective? I have been traveling through latin america and eastern europe. And did volunteer work in an orphanage in Peru. I did met a lot of travelers/tourists and volunteers and of course was one myself.
Yours sincerely, Lotte van Dijk

Hi Lotte!

Welcome to the Sankhuwasabha village. I think it would be fantastic if you could offer your suggestions/advice on the website. Tejanath was in Kathmandu this week to try and work on it a bit, but I think he ran into some problems. I am waiting to hear from him to get an update on where things stand. The current site is located at: www.makaluaruntreks.com

Quite a few things have been changed on it, so again, I'm not sure yet what's going on, but more work is definitely required. It's a pleasure to meet you and I'm very happy you've chosen to join our group. I think we have a great team so far. If you have any questions/thoughts or ideas, please post and we'll discuss or get you whatever answers you need. This is a relatively brand new project, so we're still in the very early stages of development.

Warm Regards-
