Social Tourism marketing

Dear neighbours
Makalu Arun Social Trek (MAST) a registered non profit distributing trekking company has been established in Khandbai in Sankhuwasabha District of Eastern Nepal in 2010 by Sankhuwasabha Education Scholarship Foundation (SESF).
MAST would like to offer our guests a unique and alternative trekking service around Makalu and Arun Valley region, of Nepal, a mostly untouched trekking area where the skyline is a panorama of rugged Himalayan peaks including Mt Everest, Mt. Kanchanjunga, Mt.Makalu and other peaks above 8,000m.
MAST organizes, coordinates and facilitates treks in the region in collaboration with the local communities, other trekking companies with similar objectives, ensuring a win-win situation between hosts and visitors. A big part of the generated resources will be used to support the Sankhuwasabha Education Scholarship Foundation (SESF)'s child education support and Khandbari orphanage program.
MAST would like to advertise our new innovative tourism program around our potential customers around the world
How we can do it.
We are looking forward to hearing new ideas from you.
Warm regards

Hi
There is so much you can do, but it all depends on what resources you are starting with. It really depends on where you are now as to what your next steps are. Do you have a business plan? If so, what are your answers to these questions?
1 How many people are involved in the business? What skills and experience do you have now and what do you want to / need to learn?
2 What resources do you have now?
3 Do you have internet access?
4 Who do you know?
5 What literature about similar companies or businesses do you have?
6 Do you know who your market is?
7 How much do you need for each trek? (Double it!)
8 So many questions I have...
9 Are you aware of potential risks? For your team? For your clients? For anyone else?
As a complete, clueless beginner in the up-market holiday industry, I think your idea is great given how stunning your photo's of the area are. I think that you can probably go for people with lots of money in Europe and America and get a good business going with a good plan. Others have. Businesses with social goals are good business and the business that will survive longer term.
What do you need in the next month? The next 3 months? The next six? 12? 2 years? Where do you hope this could end up?
I have a computer, time, access to a library for literature and the possiblity of getting holiday brochures sent to you for ideas / inspiration... I am learning online marketing (self-taught). And I am a good listener! : )
I'll friend you on Facebook. Look forward to speaking to you soon Denise

Dear Carolyn
I am sorry to inform you that Michael Timo slipped and felled down on the way while he was returning back near Tasi Gaun. He was injured but not so serious. He was rescued on Friday, 18 November by a Helicopter which belonged to Fish Tail Company. He was received by our Company partner in KTM Mr. Sanjeeb Bhattarai. Now he has been under treatment. And his health has been progressing. We all pray to god for his speedy recovery.

Unfortunately accidents can happen. What's important for MAST is that the visitor was looked after and he was assisted in getting medical treatment. These are important matters for travellers who travel to less known or less popular ares of Nepal (or even other countries). Thanks for rpviding help. Hopefully micheal will still go one to tell people about the successful parts of his trip.
Dear Carolyn

Dear Neighbours
We are very much pleased to inform you all that Natalia and Anna from Argentina visited Khandbari Orphanage from November 27 – 29. The guests were welcomed by the kids with garlands and flowers.
The guests distributed clothes, stationery, football and other things to the kids. They also bought some kitchen utensils, bed sheets etc for the orphanage.
A picnic was also arranged at the orphanage yard in the evening. Then there was singing and dancing till ten pm. The guests were also enjoyed dancing in Nepali folk songs.
It was a very interesting program for the kids as well as for the children
Tejanath, it's really great that Micheal has posted his trip on Lonely Planet as this forum gets a lot of traffic, and many people read it to help inform their travel plans.
It seems that a few interested trekers were very keen to hear what he had to say. Word of Mouth marketing is one of the very best ways to promote something, so despite Mike's fall, he has written an honest overview of his trip.
Really pleased to hear that the tourism arm of the work in Khandbari is slowly progressing.
Carolyn
