Need some water purification techniques.

Yes indeed we need purification techniques due to the fact that dust in our roofs is a cause for water safety concern.

I doubt that the dust on the roof has any harmful things in it. I grew up drinking water off the roof.

You may be right.But what about the dust from the nearby quarry and the open sewage which spills into open ground then dries up into dust.
I think purity means clean and safe for drinking.Don't you think lot of dust on our roofs will make water turbid and undesirable? Due to you experience and age you are best positioned to advice and guide us accordingly.

That may be a problem. Purify the water using the sun. www.solarcookers.org

A simple first step would be to make a manual diverter so that the first water from the roof goes to the drain, carrying off all the muck. Then after a few minutes, change the valve over and the clean water is going into your tank. Then add some purifying tablets.
