Research child development programmes

Status: Finished
Step:
1

To ensure a good future for the children of Vadgam, we need to organise child development activities for children of various age groups in Vadgam - primary (under 13 years), secondary (13-16 years), higher secondary (14-17 years) and the youth in college (17-20 years). We also need to include children not attending school, or drop-outs.

Similar child development programmes have been run by various institutes and NGOs. Also, our neighbours can help with providing material and online training. We should also be able to identify people in Vadgam or nearby villages who can help with any child development activities.

Dear neighbours,

As you know (or perhaps don't know) me and my friends have been working on a special consultance for Vadgam education. We have asked Nitin and some of you for help and explanations of the village and thought about the improvement of the education. We have used this as our final paper for high-school, and recently, we have finally finished. So now we would like to present our advise to you all.

In the attachment you will find the paper itself, but you will also find a kind of special report to Nitin himself. I think this will be interesting to read, along with part 3 of our paper.

Please comment and tell us what you think,

Kind regards,
Eva (Renske, Anne-Wil)

Hi Nitin,

Just following on from Cindy's enquiry, what do you think are the priority areas of the village?
Actually let me know when you are available and maybe we could have a discussion online on msn messenger.

And also just letting you know I will be away for a week or so as there has been a death in my immediate family.

Dear Eva,

I have just read the report you prepared as part of your school project and thought I should commend you and colleagues on the fantastic job you guys have done. You have definitely understood the core issues of vadgam and your report reflects not only the deeper societal issues that India faces but an awareness of the cultural barriers people from outside India face when trying to offer a helping hand.

The development programs you have suggested are definitely feasible and sounds very effective.

Nitin, I was wondering what you think of the Big Brother program? I think this will not only benefit the younger kids but also allow the older ones to develop leadership qualities and prepare them in their future roles.

Re the portfolio option, as I suggested earlier in my emails, I think it would be good for the children to keep a record of their work. It will also allow them to be creative while strengthening their language, writing skills etc...and cognitive skills. I will work on a possible format/ example of the portfolio so the children have better understanding of how to make their own personalized portfolio.

Eva, I understand you have actually finished this project, however I was wondering whether you have an electronic example(of yourself or someone else (even a hypothetical one will do) of a portfolio for the children to have a look at. The reason I ask this, (as you have already experienced the language barriers), the children may not understand what we mean by a portfolio and if they could view a copy of one, this will enable them to keep a better record.
Of course, if you don't have one, don't worry, I will create one myself.

Once again thanks for the wonderful work you've done.

Good luck in your future endeavors.

Nitin, let me know what your thoughts are on Eva's suggestions

Dear Naina,

Thank you for your positive response! I haven´t got a portfolio example at hand, I could make one if you think it´s neccessary. I don´t mind, if you have better ideas you could do it as well. I think I could find time in the weekend.

For further help, I will try to keep in touch with Vadgam via Nabuur. I'm definately will not say goodbye yet!
