[title] => World Alzheimer's Day 2009
[body] => Hi everyone,
It seems I found this out a little too late…but on Monday 21st September is World Alzheimer's Day! Although it is only a few days away I guess it can be commemorated in any way, any day of the week! Hopefully next year we can be better prepared and run a community event. It's always on Sept 21.
Joseph, I have attached a poster that advertises WAD 2009.
There is also a resouce list for any groups wishing to celebrate the day. I hope you don't mind but I have submitted a request on your behalf. They may agree to send them them even though they won't get to you by 21 Sept. They can still be used for other events you will run in the future.

[title] => Re: NGO Partnership System
[body] => Hi Carolyn,
Sorry for the delay in writing back to you. We were very busy in attending meetings and seminars in connection with our work. We were also visiting the patients in connection with the Alzhimers day.
We have already read about the NGO Partnership System in our newspapers. But according to your advice we wish to register with the planning commission programme only after attaining some more developments.
We have read earlier that site and we think that only after three years working we will be able to register with the planning commission programme. It will be not easy to get grants or aids from the government. Anyway we wish to register our organisation with the NGO partnership system.
Thankyou for your investigation and advice.
Thanking you

[title] => success with a small fundraising opportunity
[body] => Dear Joseph, I want to share a little bit of good news with you and other neighbours.
When my colleagues here at work found out I was travelling to India and would be able to meet up with you at Vijayapuram, an opportunity came up to do a little bit of fundraising for HRESEDC!
A colleagues’ mother had knitted a beautiful woollen blanket, and so it was decided that we would sell raffle tickets to raise money and the blanket would be the prize. Today we drew the winner- our Deputy CEO won the blanket! Interestingly he is also a geriatrician (a doctor who treats elderly patients and knows a lot about Alzheimer’s)!
We raised a total of AUD$240, including some additional donations from some of the staff. I will be handing over this money to HRESEDC when I meet with you. It will be a modest start to building your funds to help purchase medical materials and medications.
I have attached a photo of the blanket and the winner!
Best regards
carolyn

We raised a total of AUD$240, including some additional donations from some of the staff. I will be handing over this money to HRESEDC when I meet with you. It will be a modest start to building your funds to help purchase medical materials and medications.
I have attached a photo of the blanket and the winner!
Best regards
carolyn

[body] => Hello Joseph, it's great to see you back on-line again! Thanks for your update. It's good news that you were able to commemorate world hospice and palliative care day. What else can you tell us about that meeting? You said there was a rally. Did many people form your community attend? What was the subjects of the lectures? Did the event cost HRESEDC any money? Are these types of events useful to have more than once a year? What other education sessions can we help you plan for 2010?
I am sorry to hear that you mother has a bed sore. Bed sores are a difficult and painful condition for those who are bed-bound. It takes great care on behalf of the carers to ensure that a patient does not get a bed sore. It requires constant attention and turning of the patient so that there are no pressure points. Can you tell us roughly how much does a water bed cost to purchase or hire? It would be good if the Home Based Medical care programme had 1-2 beds to lend to bed bound patients.
I will pass on your thanks to my colleagues! They were very pleased to be able to help in a small way. I look forward to our meeting with you in a few weeks time!
Carolyn

[title] => Re: Whole Hearted Thanks
[body] => Hello Carolyn,
Thankyou for your re message. We have mentioned about the rally and the meeting in connection with the palliative care day. More than two hundred persons including nursing students participated in the rally. Some sisters also from the convents participated in the rally, who are doing hospic care also. It is essential for the oldaged sisters and so they are doing palliative care also side by side with hospic care. Two of us participated both in the rally and the meeting. Doctors and cordinators gave lectures about palliative care. Especially for the cancer patients. They have mentioned about the necessity for palliative care for the longterm bedridden patients. Some of them opined that the families of the longterm diseased patients should be helped financially to overcome their huge debts even after the death of the patients, in order to solve this great social problem. In that meeting some of the patients who have been recovered from the longterm illness were also present. They have told us their experience and importance of the palliative care in their lives. Some others were of the opinion that the old aged parents should be look after in their homes only and not in the oldage homes, which is not good for our culture. It is the duty of the family members or the relatives to make necessary arrangements to look after their elderly at homes.
Our organisation HRESEDC has no expense at all in connection with the palliative care meeting. Only two members have participated in the meeting. The lowclass people are not at all aware of such programmes and so they are unable to become the beneficiaries. They are mainly concerned of earning their livelihood. So their elderly and bed ridden patients cannot be cared. So now we are giving awarness of palliative care and counselling to the poor people. It is better to work among the poor beneficiaries than to conduct expensive meetings.
Our mother's bed sore is curing slowly. We are using T-bact ointment for dressing the wound. The water bed costs Rs. 1800/-. We also wish to have two or three water beds for suplying to the bed ridden patients. At present their is no practice of hiring water beds. Some times if it is good for use it may be transferred to other patients.
It is said that you have conveyed our thanks to your colleagues. We are very happy and thankful to you for the same. We are pleased to know that you will start your journey by the second week of November.
Thanking you

[body] => Joseph, thanks for the overview of the meeting you attended. Sounds like it was well worth it.
I agree that when the poorest of your community are only managing to earn their livelihood then attending these types of meetings are not high on their agenda! It is still important to convey what you and your colleagues have learnt. It is equally important to provide good care for the elderly as well as educate their carers. Sounds like you have started this process. In the near future it would be good if HRESEDC were able to conduct small information gatherings. From what you have told us there is still along way to go to informing the community about what Alzheimer's is and also what is involved in looking after AD suffers. There are different ways this education process can occur...something we cal all help plan in 2010.
Best regards

[title] => Re: Visiting of our facilitator
[body] => Hi Carolyn and every one,
On 2nd December Madam Carolyn, our facilitator and Mr. Philip visited us well us our mother who was seriously ill and hospitalized. She is also Alzhimer patient. Carolyn's visit was a thrilling and exciting one. We discussed about the details of our project Medical Home Care Service started by our charitable organization HRESEDC. According and advice and instructions of madam Carolyn we started a six months pilot programme in 2009 June. We have selected 8 patients under this scheme. We have visited them very often and provided them with little help, as we had only little resources. Hi Carolyn and every one,
On 2nd December Madam Carolyn, our facilitator and Mr. A clinical Team of palliative care visited the very serious patients on the afternoons of saturdays in connection with our HRESEDC's project. The Doctor prisribed some medicines for them and the nurses dressed their wounds. Our volunteers usully visit the patients and educat and council the families of the patients. Hi everyone,
It seems I found this out a little too late…but on Monday 21st September is World Alzheimer's Day!
Carolyn
Alzheimer's Association India now has a new website with lots of information in it.
http://www.alzheimer.org.in/
Hi Joseph, I came across this new Indian Government initiative via Twitter. I think it might be a good idea to include HRESEDC in this list of NGO's. Just an idea....
Below is a description of the service. Take a look at the website and if you need help with it- let me know. http://ngo.india.gov.in/
The Planning Commission of India has been actively making calls to NGOs and Voluntary organizations to participate in its “NGO Partnership System (NGO-PS)”.
In this call, the Planning Commission encourages the NGOs and VOs to sign-up on NGO Partnership System.
This a free facility located in the Planning Commission in
association with National Informatics Centre to bring about greater
partnership between government & the voluntary sector and foster
better transparency, efficiency and accountability.

Get details of existing VOs/NGOs across India
Get details of grant schemes of key Ministries/Departments
Apply online for NGO grans
Track status of application for grants (to be operational soon)
Hi Carolyn,
Sorry for the delay in writing back to you.

Dear Joseph, I want to share a little bit of good news with you and other neighbours.

Hai Carolyn and other friends,
We are very sorry for the delay cost in contacting you and other nabuur friends. We were unable to use the computer due to the technical problems for long. We have tried from other internet cafe. But it was also in wain. So once again apologies for the delay. Our computer has over came the fault today morning and so and now I am sending you this message with great happiness and thankfulness for your genorosity. We were in very sorry for not sending you the reply in time.
When we came across your message we were very much happy that we will be able to help our patients with your whole hearted contributions. We convey our whole hearted thanks to all of you. We are waiting for your arrival. We are also praying for you all for a happy journey. We have seen the photos you have attached. We appreciate your good generosity. We all like the blanket. We all once again thank the colleague's mother and the Deputy CEO. Convey our grate fullness to all of them who have participated in this venture.
As we have said earlier my mother is Alzhimers patient. She is bed ridden and has got a bed sore now. A water bed was given to her by a person. It is very useful and we are thankful to him also. Now the bed sore has been cured a little.
In connection with the six months pilot programme the family members of the bed ridden patients discuss about their requirements with us. Now we are visiting the often and giving them counciling.
On october 10th we have celebrated and participated in the world Hospice & palliative care day. Mr. Praveen the co-ordinator was also present in the programme. There was rally and after that there were lectures about the necessity of palliative care. It was a great programme.
Thanking you once again.
Joseph AM for HRESEDC
Hello Joseph, it's great to see you back on-line again!
Carolyn
Hello Carolyn,
Thankyou for your re message.

Joseph, thanks for the overview of the meeting you attended.
Best regards
carolyn
Hai Carolyn,
Thankyou for your replay. As you have advised we are educating the families. As per the instructions given buy the experts who where present in the meeting. During 2010 we hope to plan giving more help to the patients and enable them to extend their life time without much troubles without creating a burden to the society.
Thanking you
