Wakitaka ranked 5th and Awarded

Following the youth grant competition that has been running in Uganda since July, 2010, Wakitaka was ranked 5th out of the nine youth led organizations in Uganda that have won the grants for their proposed project. Our project as communicated to you earlier on is to manufacture briquettes from wastes as an alternative to charcoal and firewood.

The project will be funded by youth entrepreneurship facility in collaboration with International Labor Organization (ILO)and African Commission. The youth also underwent a number of capacity building activities which has also enhanced the skills of the proposed manager for the project.

The function which was attended by over 400 youth in the country from different parts of the country and indeed it was very competitive with over 400 organizations who initially submitted in their proposals!! Thanks for your prayers. The project will therefore start soon.

Hi Emmanuel,

I am so proud of Wakitaka Youth. This is a big step forward having won this grant. How much is the grant, and when are they going to start the briquette making? Is this then a new group of youth that have not been involved so far? Let us know if you need any specific advise or support for this project.

Best wishes,
Maria

Emmanuel - you must be so proud of the work you have completed in 3 short years(or is it only 2?)- it is really quite amazing! And please relay my congratulations to the hardworking youths who have made this all possible under your guidance. Bravo!

Hi All;

We are still making a few adjustments in the budget that the funders suggested to add/subtract. We will therefore communicate about the final amount at a later time. This will be another group of youth who will benefit from the briquette making business dubbed as "Cook Clean and Save the Environment." The project duration is one year after which the funders will pullout for the youth to sustain the business. We are happy the youth will benefit from various trainings including entrepreneurship.

Kind Regards,
Emmanuel
