project room - a room for updates and new ideas

Status: In progress

Please post your ideas/advice here that you have for the project, if there is not a task for it already. The project has started very recently and is looking for further ideas of income generation and training.

Hi,

On the 26th June, the youth had a tour to one of the successful entrepreneurs of briquette making in Kampala called Kampala Jellitone Supplies in which youth learnt various techniques of making quality briquettes, marketing skills, energy saving stoves, possible markets etc. This is one of the activities aimed at developing the spirit of entrepreneurship amongst the youth. There will be another training of youth starting on 7th July in Generate Your Business Ideas (GYBI)and Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB)packages. You can also visit our blog (i.e. www.wakitakayouths.wordpress.com) for more updates.

The youth have also written and submitted another proposal to scale up the tailoring project. At present 4 young women who were trained by the group are running their own tailoring enterprises while others are being employed before they can gather some money to buy their own tailoring machines.

Kind Regards,
Emmanuel

Dear neighbors,

Having troubles to load up pictures to Nabuur - it's just too slow for my connection in Benin - please go to the WYDG Blog to see the pictures there.
I am sorry for this inconvenience, but the blog is a bit faster.

Have a good week,
Maria

Dear Neighbors,

On Sunday 31st July, 2011, WYDG conducted an open air field day and awareness campaign regarding the cook clean and save the environment project in which the group is equipping the youth with various business skills, briquette production, sensitization about savings and credit facilities among others.

The function which started at 2:00pm with different local authorities and members of the community in attendance was successful. Amongst the activities of the day included; demonstrating briquette making, demonstrating the use of briquettes and highlighting about other success projects of WYDG.

WYDG also invited "Women First" a Women NGO in Jinja which empowers women in various projects including bead making, making of energy stoves, making of solar cookers among others. The group was also able to exhibit their products to the public.

More info including photos of the event will be posted on our blog shortly

Kind Regards,

I can't wait to see the solar cookers - and wonder if they are like the ones I have looked at. Congrats on the Day of Info sharing - great idea!

Hi All,

It's quite a while without updates from the group. WYDG is still operating and today the 3rd November, 2011, WYDG will be taking part in a TV interview where the youth will be sharing their experiences with the public. This is in collaboration with the Youth Entrepreneurship Facility/ILO who are the funders of the briquette making project.

The group is also at the verge of implementing the second phase of the briquette making project. The group is yet to receive additional funds for the second phase following successful monitoring and evaluation of the project. Some youth have also taken on the project as an income generating activity.

Kind Regards,
Emmanuel

Self-Supported Schools

They should be established everywhere and self-sustaining. Education is the solution to poverty.

A CD holds 650 MB. The Bible is 1.4 MB. Therefore, a CD holds 464 copies of the Bible. A DVD holds 3,000 copies of the Bible. A dual layer DVD holds 6,000 Bibles. The DVDs could be loaded with educational materials: books, videos, etc. I have a DVD loaded with farming info and with a printed label for US0.50. Cost US$3.50 to mail anywhere in the world. Just imagine what would happen if every school in the bush of Africa, the jungles of Latin America and the mountains of Asia had a DVD library to use for teaching and training. All computers, internally, operate on 12 v. Therefore, wire 12 v from a battery directly into the computer [email for instructions] and use a solar battery charger. This opens up a whole new way to teach. Thousands of DVDs are available and many are free.

If the internet is available, the cost is prohibitive many times. Use HTTrack website copier [free] to download websites into computers and on to DVDs.

Class schedule: Classes can meet mornings, afternoons, evenings and/or weekends.

YOUR SKILLS IN COTTAGE INDUSTRIES IS OUR SEARCH

Thanks alot for trying to eke a living. as a group you sit down and suggest the products or services that you can sell to make money. consider also the market trends of the product or service in your vicinity. after identifying the them assess whether you produce or render them. i personally i can train you in soap making if you can see that there is market for soap in yuor area and you can have the raw materials.
the problem with my online discussion i have limited access to the internet. find me 0782002512.

Hi All,

A representative of Legacy Foundation managed to pay a visit to WYDG and evaluated the briquette making project. Two organizations were selected for the evaluation; WYDG from Uganda and another in Tanzania. This will help WYDG to create a strong network with other organizations that promote use of eco-friendly briquettes all over the world and most importantly learn from one another.

Legacy foundation is an organization that promotes briquette making businesses all over the world.

Kind Regards,
Emmanuel
