Contact partner/donor organizations

We have identified potential donors and partners to support the various parts of this project. However, it is a lot of work to write to all kind of donor organizations – so let’s help Sabina in this task. Based on the draft letter you can find under resources we look for Nabuurs who would be willing to write to the organizations (by email) and follow up until a reply is received.
We think it would be easiest and most convenient to get funding
1. for the business development of the knitting project
2. for the initial set-up of the early childhood development project, including the housing

Dear Anjana & Others,
Greetings! Thanks Anjana for deciding to help out. I am attaching the list of donor institutions to this message. The list was prepared by Sabina. It is a long list and as such am trying to figure out which organization is stable to fund our project. Anyway, it will be nice to work together on it. Working together, will make it more easier and save alot of time. I'm coming up with a list between today and tomorrow of potential donors, maybe we could compare. If you have the time, we could discuss better. These are my messengers: Yahoo: pobuwolo@yahoo.com, Msn: abpobuwolo@hotmail.com, skype: faith2009
Thanks, look forward to working with you on this task
Peace!
Towaye

Forgot to ask if any draft letter is available with us?
Anjana
Dear Anjana,
Yes, we have a draft letter,I am sending it to your email now. It is like already completed, just that Sabina has to put it on the SACD Letterhead and attached the budget along with the business plan.As long as we can identify the organizations, she will put it on the letterhead and attached the business plan and budget.
Also find attached the letter.
Towaye
Hey Towaye
How u doing?
Could not get much of success. I could find only two societies out of the complete list. One is American Express Foundation (www.americanexpress.com/corp/philanthropy) and the second is Wallace Global Fund (www.wgf.org). If u get time then have a look at these websites and then we can discuss it.
Cheers
Anjana
Dear all,
Sabina put the draft letter on letterhead now and updated the business plan and budget. Please find all of the documents under Resources on the right side.
Best, Angelika - and good luck for the organisation hunt ;)
Hi Sabina
In the draft letter, in the last but one paragraph we have to mention the total amount for the Early Childhood Education and Development Project and the Innovative Education Program. I am confused which figures are to be written here from the budget sheet. Please help.
Cheers
Anjana
Dear all,
Please note what Mary suggested under the task of finding possible funding sources:
"Hi Sabina and Angelika
I am not able to get actively involved but thought you may be interested in this as a potential source of funding.
You will need to read their criteria and decide whether Yoshinkhel fits them...
Feed The Minds
http://www.feedtheminds.co.uk/get%20funding.html
"Feed the Minds awards grants ranging from £1,000 to £25,000. In the past year, we have supported projects in more than 40 countries across the developing world."
They accept applications three times a year in February, May and November.
The next deadline is 1st November.
You can apply for a Small Grant (£1000-10000) or a Large Grant (£10000-25000).
Funding criteria (full details on site) include:
"1. Education for development
Access to education and educational resources can promote material and spiritual wellbeing. Through education, Feed the Minds aims to support the empowerment of the most disadvantaged members of societies. Feed the Minds supports:
• Literacy – particularly for those people who do not have access to other forms of literacy training
• Libraries – providing reading materials in places where there is presently poor access to materials
• General formal education – Feed the Minds emphasises projects that promote access to education for the most marginalised groups in society (e.g. women, the disabled, the chronically ill or the elderly).
2. Training and communications for development
Effective training and communications can generate new opportunities for people and enable them to lead fulfilling lives. Feed the Minds supports training and non-formal education that provides people with skills and ideas that will make a real difference to their lives. We support training and communications across the developmental spectrum including health, hygiene, human rights, nutrition, peace and reconciliation, farming and industry. Applications should demonstrate clearly how training needs have been identified.
• Seminars, coaching, workshops, training courses – innovative programmes that generate new opportunities for disadvantaged people
• Vocational training schemes – priority is given to training for marginalised people of low economic status who have limited access to vocational training opportunities
• Multi-media educational projects – using multi-media to respond to locally identified needs, developing skills and improving communication."
but does not fund
"Projects with budgets that primarily reflect a focus on capital expenditure e.g. erecting buildings, creating physical infrastructure (such as schools, churches, water points, etc) or the purchasing of equipment, vehicles and other capital items"
although the Frequently Asked Questions section does say that they will consider applications that include equipment if it is directly relevant to the project.
The website includes full details of funding criteria, application guidelines, frequently asked questions and application forms
As with any potential donor organisation, putting in an application does not mean that you will be successful - lots of people apply and they cannot fund all of them."
I guess we could qualify in terms of
- literacy training for the women: we'd have to dedicate a special workshop or something, inviting a teacher I guess
- vocational training: but I guess we'd need to train the women on something new, but might be able to get a grant for flying in a trainer for example
"Mary also added the following links:
See sections 11 and 12 at http://www.nabuur.com/modules/resource/resource_topic.php?villageid=279&... and also the page in Kiliba village that this links to http://www.nabuur.com/modules/wiwimod/index.php?villageid=174&actionId=6...
This list is focused on organisations providing funding to projects in Africa (it started as a list for a school and related projects in Congo) but some may cover Nepal too, and some of them do not fund education projects. May be a starting point for you though if you have time to investigate...
And by the way... anyone can add to that wiki!!!"
Best, Angelika
Hi all,
I have been inactive for a bit now. I want to get involved with the village again.
I just downloaded all the documents attachd with this task. they look mighty impressive. To all who out it together, great job!
I was wondering if anyone had found a donor yet. If not I could definitely help with researching donors.
Also, a question to whoever can answer it. Are the funds meant only for the education program or also for construction of the building?
Thanks
Freddie
Dear Freddie,
Welcome back! I'm also back after holidays and several flu attacks :)
We are currently going with the idea of a fundraising event for the building as the thinking was that it would be easier to find funding with most organisations if the building is there already. But of course if you have ideas regarding funding for the building that would also help.
Also regarding the question of which projects are included: that depends on the requirements and eligibility criteria of the organisations you contact, really...
Towaye is responsible for this task, so maybe you can ask him for an update regarding who was contacted and how you could help!
Kind regards,
Angelika
