Find volunteer trainers for skills training
Following the knitting training, Sabina has several other ideas in mind for how to increase the income possibilities of the underprivileged women in Yoshinkhel. These include tailoring, and soap and candle making. But of course other skills might also be interesting for the women, so in coordination with Sabina volunteers with any other useful skills would be very welcome too!
The volunteers should, however, be able to support themselves. Regarding food/lodging, SACDS can arrange a guest house near Yoshinkhel. Volunteers would pay themselves for the expenses, which are however very low. Most volunteers, however, stay with the village people, share their culture and village life, and in return give to the villagers according to their means.
Who would be willing to go look for those volunteers out there waiting for the chance to help the women of Yoshinkhel?

Here is a suggestion I received:
Dear Angelica,
Greetings.
Thank you for your reply. There are many volunteer websites available on the net. If you go through you can find a lot of volunteers looking out for placements. Also write to Coady international institute at nova scotia in Canada. They also send volunteers to different NGOs around the globe. Their web address is www.stfx.ca/coady ' if you need any further info, keep in touch.
Kind regards,
John
i published a list of possible organizations on the other task "volunteer teachers". Refer to Wiki...best nicole
Can I have more information about your project. I can offer online training suggestions. Thanks
Dear Doyin,
So sorry for not noticing your entry - I must have overlooked it in the change of setting on the website :(
What kind of training do you offer? I'm afraid it might be a bit difficult with web access though :( Do you have any concrete questions about the project? Otherwise I think the Business Plan that you can find under resources is the best general info about the project.
Best, Angelika

Hello Angelika,
Concerning soap or candle making, we can easily find the information through the net as below.
http://www.thefarm.org/charities/i4at/surv/soapmake.htm
http://www.wsac.com/soaps/make-soap.htm
http://www.letsmakecandles.com/
But lye (necessary to make soap) is very dangerous substance, they have to handle it very carefully. It is scary.
Or you can make herbal soap from simple white soap adding herbs or scents. It is very easy and safe.
As for tailoring, they need to get used to sewing machines at first. With one week training, they can start to sew simple bags (according to UNIFEM info).
After that, I believe it is possible to expand their skills through online training if we can collect designs and patterns for that. I think this can be another option when you can't find actual volunteer trainers there.
By the way isn't food processing included in the list?
If they fail to sell them, they can eat them.
Hi Kyoko,
Thanks for the links! I'm afraid starting with instructions according to websites is always a bit difficult :( thats why it would be best to have someone, like a volunteer, show how things are actually done.
Sewing machines, I guess, would need to be bought first, so that's a bit difficult too...
Best, Angelika
PS: What did you suggest they eat :-o ?!?
Thank you Angelika, I understand.
The food processing is, for example, breads, sweets, pickles and etc.
I heard food shop workers can bring (or buy at cheap prices) the unsold foods at the end of day for their dinner. Isn't it low(or no) risk? They won't have dead stocks. Especially pickles can be kept longer.
But I don't know their food culture :-) .
Dear all,
In order to improve the quality of the knitting - especially since the women have not knitted in the last 3 months as they did not get the full payment by the local companies they supplied - we would be looking for a volunteer to give an advanced workshop to the women for knitting.
Any ideas?
Kind regards,
Angelika
