Help in writing business plan and funding proposal

Status: Finished

Based on the successful examples of similar child care centres in Asia, particularly Nepal we need to design a business plan for Yoshinkel community child care centre. This includes planning for the resources that this centre will need, anticipation of maintenance costs, revenues, start up costs, etc.

Dear Neighbours,
We are extremely grateful to all of you for your great contributions that has helped us accomplish our "first action" towards making Yoshinkel community prosper. All the resources of successful examples of child care and adult training centre submitted by the neighbours has helped us formulate a business plan template for the same. We have already moved to our next action of writing the business plan for the centre and with the help of our neighbours we are confident of completing it soon. We want to especially thank Mr. Vinod, Simon, Junjun and others for their active participation and critique in refining the business plan template. We look forward to complete this action with the same ease with your co-ordination and help. To continue this converssation find enclosed our finalized template from previous action that we need to improve upon with your help.
Thanks and regards,
Deepshi

Hi (below is what I just posted for Cambodia)
.
I'm Katea and I've been part of nabuur for sometime now. I just recently came from a workshop by AWID called Money and Movement last Nov 5-11 in Mexico. I represented my organization, SPC WOmen, Family and Overseas Filipino Center, as part of the Young Women's Institute. We were taught how to do fund raising, how to write the proposal and we also had a chance to meet with international and local donors.

In our regional meeting, the southeast asian group, we are asked to map the organizations in our region. I'm assigned to do several countries which had no representations in the aforementioned event; one of which was Cambodia.

There are so many funders who are willing to support the youth. But you have to be specific in the kind of activities that you want to do. I am willing to help you find the potential sponsors, as I have some of them on my list. Please email me if you want more details and how do you want me to help. My school break is fast approaching and I'll have more free time to be online. Meanwhile, I'll gather as much material for your group.

Thanks!
Katea

Dear Katea,
Welcome to Yoshinkel!
We appreciate your help in finding the sponsors for Yoshinkel. We are in the process of writing a project proposal for building a child care and adult training centre at Yoshinkel. We are surely looking for supporters for the same. We'll appreciate if you can share some details of these sponsors and the cause they are interested in supporting. Other than that, let us know what other information can we furnish about Yoshinkel. Our focus and actions are listed on the NABUUR website.
Best regards,
Deepshi

Namaste!

I found 2 other interesting funding agencies. Here they are: (gap incorporated and Milagros foundation)
www.gapinc.com
IWith a particular focus on underserved youth, we’re committed to supporting the communities where we live and work through grants, in-kind donations, community outreach and employee volunteer programs.

www.milagrofoundation.org
For Milagro foundation (submit inquiry asap since their deliberation is in February). I copied two of the most important things on sumbitting proposal. But please check their website for the complete information. Ok? Good Luck!
1. General information:

* our Board makes decisions on grants three times a year–February, June and October. Grant deadlines are usually at least two months prior to a Board meeting.

* most grant amounts are between $2500 and $5000

* creative and unique programs from grass roots organizations that work with underrepresented and underprivileged children take precedence — our grants focus on art, education and health.

* Priority is given to programs that can prove to make a lasting impact on children (those that work with the children for two or more years) and programs or projects that show collaboration between and among more than one agency.

* the Milagro Foundation does not fund capital campaigns, scholarships, individual trips or tours, the production of video, music events, television or film, one time events, fund-raising or sporting events

* please read our Frequently Asked Question page as well for additional general information

2. How to apply for a grant:

* complete the application page by clicking here: APPLY

* fill out all required fields and include in your summary a project description and what makes it unique

* send photos digitally to apply@milagrofoundation.org with reference to your project name or mail us your photos and or video labeled with the project name to:
Milagro Foundation
Attn. Shelley Brown
P.O. Box 9125
San Rafael, CA 94912

I suggest, some of you should conceptualize the specific projects/ activities for the whole year as early as now and how to do fund raising. It's important that you have the bigger picture of everything. While others should work on mobilization and team building both for the kids and the organizers :)

I'm so excited with your project.

You probably have a reponse from BvLF, but just to let you know, they do not support programmes in Nepal. They have in fact just reduced the number of countries they operate in.

Obviously, they have the right experience in dealing with children 8 and uner, so we may be able to get some of the many Early learning books they produce, which offer great ideas on developing young children.

When I get back to Thailand, next month, I will contact them about these materials, as I have some links with the Foundation I work with there.

Hello Neighbours,
Find enclosed the project plan template that we are working on. We are looking forward to suggestions for improving it further.

Kate, thank you for the information on funding agencies.
It seems that the focus of gapinc is significant contributions on youth programs but our current goal for Yoshinkel is child care and women training centre.
Milagro Foundation supports children and youth in the San Francisco Bay area, the United States and countries around the world touched by the music of Santana. The site read that the Milagro Foundation will now make the choice of which non-profit organizations to fund. Grant applications will no longer be accepted.

We appreciate your contributions and suggestion about division of labor to accomplish the goals of Yoshinkel community and look forward to more contributions. We need to search for funding agencies that support child care and/or women literacy and vocational training programs for them to be self-sufficient.

Thank you All!
Regards,
Deepshi

Namaste!
Oooops! Sorry. I must have mixed you up with another group. For your women's project there's Global Fund for Women, Mama Cash, AWID and HIVOS. For Children, there's Global Fund for Children. For women's literacy, check the websites of ISIS International and Association of Progressive Communications. They have links and resources. You may also want to check www.hrfunders.org They have the directory of international funders/donors. (International Human Rights Funders Group). I hope this will do.

For vocational training programs, then you need to check agencies that fund micro-finance initiatives. Starting a program is really tough but I'm sure you can do it.

By the way, I had a chance meeting with one of the funders and she said that a good proposal should have the following:
Organizational History
A Need's Statement
Objective: Short-term and Long-term
Strategies
Timeline
Evaluation Section
Budget: Overall organizational project and Administrative cost
Collaborative Section: Letter of support from individual and the volunteers
Attachments: Annual Report and Articles
Cover Letter

Good luck!
Hope this helps :)

Hi all,

I find the different versions of the plans that are posted here a bit confusing :-?

Looking through the discussions, there seem to be 3 activities that SACDS wants to carry out (to start with):
- Child daycare (under 5 yr olds)
- Children project (5 - 20 yr olds)
- Adult literacy training
- I'm not sure if Sabina would like to add skill training for women?

To carry out these activities, SACDS wants to set up its own training/daycare centre.

I think the structure of the project proposal (BP2.doc) posted by Deepshi could contain a short description of these activities and a description of the facilities needed. This would provide an overall plan for SACDS.

Further details of the individual projects can be given in separate project proposals, like the Children Project Sabina posted.

Any thoughts on this approach?

:-P
